Chapter 44 We Can Only Talk About Money Between Us Now
"How could that be?"
Marigold's voice instantly rose several notches as she said to Cordelia, "Julie is your sister. You can't slander her like this. How could she possibly do such a thing?"
"Why not?"
Cordelia sneered, "She has plenty of reasons to harm me. For example, she wants to take over the Fox family's assets all by herself."
"That's impossible. What you're saying could never happen."
Marigold shook her head. "Julie is such a kind person. She's nothing like what you're describing. If you want to slander her, at least come up with a reasonable excuse."
At this point, Marigold suddenly realized something. "You're going after Julie like this—is it because of Ryan?"
"Cordelia, I'm warning you. Ryan is already engaged to Julie. They're getting married soon. Your story with Ryan is over. You're not allowed to pester him!"
"I'm pestering him?"
Cordelia was so angry she laughed. It seemed Marigold no longer saw her as existing at all.
Since that was the case, there was no point in saying more. Cordelia spread her hands and skillfully made a rubbing motion for money. Seeing this gesture, Jack felt a headache coming on.
"Giving her my bedroom isn't impossible."
"Cordelia, we're family. Family members don't ask for money for everything."
Cordelia looked up with disdain. "Now you remember we're family? When you threw out my stuff without even telling me, why didn't you say we were family then?"
At this point, Cordelia said impatiently, "Hurry up and give me the money. Otherwise, nobody's going to have a good time."
As she spoke, she picked up the sledgehammer again and slammed it hard against the floor.
The loud noise made Jack's ears ring.
He was furious but completely helpless against Cordelia. He knew this matter wouldn't be easily brushed aside, but Julie had cried and made a fuss on the phone, insisting on Cordelia's bedroom. Jack really had no choice but to give in.
He had originally planned to quietly deal with it today while Cordelia wasn't home, but who knew she would come back at just this moment.
As soon as he heard Cordelia had returned, he knew things would go badly. Sure enough, her crazy, murderous attitude completely intimidated him.
Jack knew that without paying some money today, this wouldn't be over. Cordelia had one trick after another, and he couldn't handle it.
"How much!"
"How cooperative of you, Dad!"
Seeing him being so straightforward, Cordelia didn't beat around the bush either. She sat up straight and held out one finger. "Not much—five million dollars."
"You're robbing us!"
Marigold clutched her chest furiously. "Cordelia, what do you take us for, your ATM? All you talk about is money. You're completely out of control."
"Yeah, you're absolutely right."
The soft part of her heart had now become hard as stone. She rolled down her sleeve and mocked, "For the past three years, I've thought about coming home every single moment. But after I came back, look—what have you done to me?"
At this point, Cordelia smiled coldly. "Alright, there's no point in saying more. Give me the money. Pay up and everything will be fine. But if you don't..."
Cordelia looked around and sneered. "Then I'll turn the Fox Villa into ruins."
"You wouldn't dare!"
Jack was shaking with anger, his voice trembling. "Are you really going to tear down the house?"
"Why wouldn't I dare? Want to try me?"
Jack clutched his chest angrily. "Fine, I'll give you ten million dollars. But the condition is that you never show up at home again from now on."
"Honey."
Hearing this, Marigold quickly tried to stop him. That was ten million dollars—just giving it to her like that?
But Jack raised his hand to stop Marigold, looking at Cordelia with a dark expression. "From now on, you move out. If anyone asks, I'll just say you wanted to move out. But if the Fox family needs you to show up at any event, you must be there!"
Cordelia glanced at him. "That's your condition for giving me ten million dollars?"
"Yes!"
Jack stared at her. "Do you agree or not?"
He couldn't let Cordelia continue living at home. If she stayed, everyone in the house would eventually be driven crazy by her.
Jack felt bad about the money too, but he knew that if he offered less, Cordelia wouldn't compromise at all. Rather than keep fighting, better to settle it once and for all.
Moving out was fine, but not returning to the Fox Villa was impossible. Cordelia still hadn't found evidence that Julie had harmed her back then. How could she leave so easily?
But for the sake of the money, Cordelia readily agreed. "Sure, since you put it that way, of course I'll agree."
Cordelia held out her hand. "Give me the money. I'll leave right now."
"Fine."
Seeing her being straightforward, Jack didn't waste words either and opened his phone to transfer the money.
Soon, ten million dollars arrived in Cordelia's account.
After checking, she said, "Money received. Then I'll be generous and let Julie have the bedroom."
Cordelia stood up with a smile. "Oh, and remember to tell Julie to stop doing evil things. Otherwise, the snake might come looking for her again."
"You!"
Seeing her take the money and still curse Julie at the end, Marigold's vision went dark with anger.
"Honey, listen to what she's saying!"
"What do you know!"
Jack shook off Marigold's hand. "Spending a little money to get rid of this jinx is worth it. Otherwise, do you want to watch the house be in chaos day and night?"
Hearing this, Marigold thought it made sense, but giving Cordelia so much all at once still pained her.
Jack waved his hand. "Alright, alright. We're buying peace of mind. Now you can clear out her bedroom for Julie. Hurry up and have someone do it. Julie should be back soon. She can't keep staying at Ryan's place. Living there before marriage doesn't look good."
Regarding Julie and Ryan living together, Marigold didn't mind at all. She even hoped something would happen between them.
"Julie's grown up. Stop worrying about her."
Marigold turned and headed upstairs. "I'll go see how to arrange all these things."
When Julie came back and saw her bedroom had been tidied up perfectly, she was very happy.
She hugged Marigold and acted cute. "Mom, thank you."
"You can't be so willful anymore. You don't even know—your dad spent a lot of money this time."
Marigold's words confused Julie. She asked, "What happened?"
