Chapter 42 Hospitalization

Chapter 42 Hospitalization

After dinner, Ryan went upstairs and pointed to the room next door, saying, "You'll sleep in the guest room tonight. I'll be right next door. Just let me know if you need anything."

Julie bit her lower lip, looking at Ryan with affectionate eyes, as if she wanted to say something but hesitated, which left Ryan rather confused.

"But I'm scared. I don't dare sleep alone."

As Julie spoke, she walked toward Ryan, reaching out to wrap her arms around his neck, swaying back and forth as she said, "Ryan, whenever I close my eyes, my mind is full of snakes. I'm really scared. Can you sleep beside me tonight and keep me company?"

Julie had just finished bathing, and the unique feminine fragrance that belonged to her drifted uncontrollably into Ryan's nose as she drew near. Ryan's body instantly stiffened, frozen in place.

Julie's body was soft and delicate, like a blooming poppy, carrying a fatal attraction. Ryan's originally calm heart began to stir restlessly as her hands wandered.

"Julie, don't do this. We're not married yet."

Ryan reached out to push Julie away, but she clung tightly to him, giving him no chance to push her off.

"Ryan, we're already engaged."

Julie spoke as she actively kissed Ryan's lips, her hands boldly slipping inside Ryan's clothes.

"Let's be together tonight, okay?"

Ryan half-resisted, half-yielded. Cordelia's image floated through his mind, but his hands honestly fell to Julie's chest, kneading forcefully.

Seeing his reaction, Julie became even more excited, step by step forcing Ryan to retreat to the bedside. With a forceful push of her hands, they both fell onto the bed together.

"Ryan."

As Julie's soft voice sounded, the main light in the room instantly went out, leaving only a dim lamp casting an ambiguous orange-yellow glow.

Starlight Heights.

In the middle of the night, Cordelia, lying in bed, suddenly felt something wrong with her body. Her stomach cramped painfully, and she felt weak all over with a terrible headache.

What bad luck—her period was coming.

These past few years in Empire of Upheaval, she had suffered quite a bit. Normally she was very strong and showed no signs of anything wrong, but as soon as her period came, all those hidden ailments would surface.

It wasn't that she hadn't seen doctors after returning. The doctors said there was no good solution for now, only gradual treatment.

Usually Cordelia kept some medicine on hand, but having just moved, she really wasn't prepared.

She wanted to call the property management, but realized she didn't have their number.

This was terrible. Cordelia, who was normally fearless, now curled up like a shrimp, bent over as she struggled to move her body outward step by step.

Just as she reached the elevator, it stopped right in front of her.

"Cordelia."

A familiar voice sounded in Cordelia's ear. Cordelia looked up to see Raymond. What was he doing here?

After work, Raymond kept thinking about what Ryan said about Cordelia releasing snakes to bite people. He knew that unless she was pushed to the edge, Cordelia wouldn't do something so crazy.

Now the Fox family people were probably all fussing over Julie, but what about Cordelia? She was probably alone, hiding in some unknown corner, nursing her wounds.

Thinking of this, Raymond couldn't sit still any longer and drove to Starlight Heights.

Who knew that as soon as he stepped out of the elevator, he would see Cordelia with a pale face, hands clutching her stomach, looking pained.

Seeing Cordelia like this, Raymond's heartbeat slowed for a few beats. He quickly stepped forward to support her, saying, "What's wrong with you?"

Cordelia said through gritted teeth, "Period cramps!"

Raymond frowned. He didn't know much about period cramps, but for someone to be in as much pain as Cordelia, that couldn't be common.

"Bear with it. I'll take you to the hospital now."

With that, he scooped Cordelia up in his arms and rushed into the elevator.

Cordelia was surprised to be lifted into the air. Normally, she would have thrown Raymond over her shoulder, but now she was as weak as a baby, letting Raymond hold her tightly in his embrace.

The faint, pleasant scent coming from Raymond smelled nice. Cordelia couldn't help but bury her head in the crook of his arm and take a deep breath. How long had it been since she'd felt such a warm embrace? For a moment, Cordelia felt dazed.

Maybe Raymond wasn't so annoying after all.

If only he weren't from the Perez family. What a shame.

Soon they reached the car. After placing Cordelia in the back seat, he touched her forehead and said, "Sit tight, we'll be there soon."

His hand was warm. Cordelia felt the pain in her stomach ease just a little.

Raymond got in the car and pressed the gas pedal, and the car shot forward.

When they arrived at the hospital, doctors were already waiting. They took Cordelia and settled her in a hospital room. Just as the doctor lifted her sleeve, they suddenly cried out in shock.

The sound drew Raymond's attention. He turned to look and saw Cordelia's arm covered densely with scars, though these scars were clearly not from recent injuries.

Seeing the doctor stop what they were doing, Cordelia urged through her severe pain, "Doctor, hurry up and give me the medicine."

"Okay!"

The doctor quickly agreed and skillfully inserted the IV needle.

The sleeve was pulled down again, covering the scars on Cordelia's arm. Raymond's shocked gaze slowly moved from Cordelia's arm to finally rest on her pale face.

What had she been through? Why was her arm covered in scars? And what about the rest of her body—could it be even worse?

Cordelia just felt her head spinning. If not for her strong willpower holding her up, she would have passed out long ago. After the IV was started, the pain in her stomach eased considerably. Exhausted, Cordelia finally closed her eyes and fell asleep.

She slept really well. When Cordelia opened her eyes, the sky was already starting to brighten. She suddenly wanted to sit up, but realized something was wrong with the blanket covering her.

Before she could react, Raymond, who had heard the movement, came over.

"You're awake?"

The events of last night quickly ran through Cordelia's mind. She looked up at Raymond with confusion and said, "Thanks for last night, but how did you happen to show up at my door?"

Raymond coughed, covering up as he said, "Coincidence. I left something in the apartment next to yours. I went back to get it, and who knew I'd see you right as I got off the elevator."

At that time, seeing Cordelia's very pale face, he was also glad he had gone back in time. If he hadn't gone back, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

Thinking of this, Raymond picked up Cordelia's phone and said, "Unlock it."

"What for?" Cordelia looked up, confused.

"Just unlock it first."

Seeing Raymond being so forceful, Cordelia was a bit puzzled, but considering he had saved her life last night, she obediently unlocked it.

Raymond skillfully saved his phone number as an emergency contact in Cordelia's phone, operating while saying, "If you run into any emergency in the future, remember to call me."

His actions made Cordelia laugh. This was an accident—who has that many emergencies?

Before Cordelia could speak, Raymond, having saved his number, put down the phone and picked up the thermos food container beside him. The oatmeal porridge inside was steaming hot. "You must be hungry. I had someone prepare some oatmeal porridge. Eat at least a little."
