Chapter 41 I Was Almost Bitten by a Snake

Ryan had never seen Julie look so panicked before. His heart ached for her, and he quickly asked, "What happened?"

Julie's face was pale as she said, "It's Cordelia. She put a bunch of snakes in my bedroom. I almost got bitten!"

"Cordelia put snakes there? How could that be?"

Ryan was skeptical.

"It's true!"

Seeing he didn't believe her, Julie cried and made a scene. "It was her! She wants me dead. She even threatened me last night. Why won't you believe me?"

"Okay, okay, I believe you."

Seeing her lose control instantly, Ryan had no choice but to comfort her. "I believe you, alright? Now stop crying."

Only after he said this did Julie stop her tantrum. She looked up at him and said, "So you'll get revenge for me, right?"

Seeing Julie's red, swollen eyes and pale face, Ryan couldn't bear it and reluctantly nodded. "Yes, I will."

The moment Ryan said this, he felt someone's gaze on him. He looked up, and his heart tightened—it was Cordelia.

She had appeared on the stairs at some point. Clearly, she had heard his entire conversation with Julie.

"Cordelia, I..."

Ryan tried to explain, but Julie didn't give him the chance. She said smugly to Cordelia, "Did you hear that? Ryan will get revenge for me. Cordelia, you just wait!"

"Looks like those snakes last night were still too friendly to you."

As Cordelia spoke, she sat down and called toward the kitchen, "Where's my soup?"

"Ms. Fox, it's ready."

Willie responded quickly, bringing out a large bowl of dark, murky soup. Julie stared at the bowl and asked, "What is that?"

Willie's face looked uncomfortable as she answered quietly, "Snake soup."

Julie was so shocked that goosebumps covered her entire body. She pointed at Cordelia and said, "Are you crazy? You're actually drinking snake soup!"

Cordelia ignored her and helped herself to a large bowl of soup. Under everyone's watchful eyes, she took a satisfying sip.

Seeing her actually drinking snake soup, Julie couldn't take it anymore. She covered her mouth and rushed to the bathroom, throwing up violently.

"Julie, Julie."

Ryan wanted to comfort Julie but was reluctant to leave Cordelia. Unfortunately, Cordelia wouldn't spare him even a glance.

"Ryan!"

Hearing Julie's call, Ryan had no choice but to go over.

With the annoying people gone, Cordelia calmly finished the entire bowl of soup. The carefully prepared flavor was indeed much better than what she'd made with just water in the wild years ago.

By the time Ryan came out supporting Julie, Cordelia had already disappeared.

"Ryan, I feel terrible. I need to see a doctor."

Julie's voice in his ear pulled Ryan back to reality. He frowned slightly. "Just rest a bit and drink more water. You'll be fine."

"No, I feel awful all over. Water won't help. I need to go to the hospital."

Marigold came out of her bedroom just as Julie was throwing a tantrum. Seeing this scene gave Marigold another headache.

After all this fuss these past few days, forget Julie—even she wanted to see a doctor.

"Ryan, why don't you take Julie to the hospital? She was frightened last night. She should really see a doctor."

Please take her away so I can rest, Marigold thought. Otherwise, she'd need to see a doctor herself.

Ryan had no choice but to take Julie to the hospital. But the only doctor he trusted was Raymond, so he took Julie to see him.

In the office, after Raymond arranged for someone to examine Julie, he finally had time to ask Ryan what had happened.

Ryan shook his head. "I don't really know what happened. I just heard that snakes got into Julie's room last night, and she insists Cordelia did it."

As Ryan said this, his brow furrowed, and he didn't forget to defend Cordelia. "But Cordelia isn't that kind of person. She would never hurt anyone. How could she use snakes to harm someone?"

Hearing this, Raymond sneered inwardly. That's because you don't understand Cordelia at all.

In Raymond's view, Cordelia was exactly the kind of person who would do this!

"Just comfort her properly. After all, she's your girlfriend."

Ryan frowned and nodded. "Uncle Raymond, I know. I'll go now."

After all the tests, Julie was perfectly fine, so they had to go back.

The moment she saw the gates of The Fox Villa, Julie changed her mind again. She clung tightly to Ryan's arm and said, "I'm not going back. Ryan, I'm not going home. Every time I go back, I remember that night. I'm scared. I'm not going back, not going back!"

Ryan had no choice but to stop the car and ask, "If you're not going back, where will you go?"

"I'll go to your place, okay? Ryan, I'm begging you. I'm really scared, I'm not lying. Please just take me in, okay?"

As Julie spoke, she desperately shook Ryan's arm, pleading with him.

Ryan was shaken dizzy and finally had to agree. "I can take you in, but let's be clear—just this once, never again."

Seeing him agree, Julie's face lit up with joy. She looked up and kissed him on the cheek. "I knew you were the best to me. Don't worry, Mom already had the servants clean up my room. Tomorrow when I go back, I can move into the new bedroom."

Ryan reluctantly brought Julie to his apartment.

Once inside, Julie didn't hold back. She took off her coat and said, "I'm going to take a shower. I still feel like there are snake marks on my body. It's disgusting."

She headed toward the bathroom. Ryan called a servant to help prepare sleepwear, then went downstairs.

When Julie came out of the bathroom, she saw that Ryan had already prepared dinner. She said with delight, "Did you prepare all this?"

"What are you thinking? The servant prepared it, but she's already gone home. Come sit down and eat."

The servant had left, which meant it was just her and Ryan now? At this thought, Julie's mind began to wander.

She and Ryan had been together for so long and were even engaged, but their relationship was still at the stage of holding hands and occasional kisses. Julie hadn't thought much of it before, but now that Cordelia was back, things were different.

With Cordelia back, if Ryan still didn't want to sleep with her, Julie would wonder if Ryan still had feelings for Cordelia and was avoiding her because of it.

The more she thought about it, the more uneasy she felt. But today had given her a good opportunity—a chance to successfully win Ryan over and make him hers alone.
