Chapter 52 Call Me Madame

Chapter 52 Call Me Madame
SIENNA

"And why are you playing when it's not even break hour?" an unfamiliar feminine voice reverberated, causing me to raise my gaze.

I was met with an oval face, a pointed chin, and eyes as clear as crystal. Her hair was brown, long, and straight, but tied into a high ponytail that complemented her silky, well-ironed blue shirt and lighter blue pants.

Catherine, John, Angel, and the others hurriedly turned to their computers and continued working, or they were just pretending to be.

I couldn't look away for a second longer. The air she exuded and her demeanor made it glaringly obvious that she wasn't a random secretary. She was someone important, but who the hell was she?

"What? Having a staring competition with me?" she yelled at me, pulling me back to reality.

My lips parted, but I couldn't formulate a word. I blinked my gaze away and stared at my already booted system.

She clapped her hands. "Okay, everyone. Listen carefully and attentively," she yelled. "I don't need an introduction, as you'll gradually know who I am as time goes on."

The pride in her voice and the way she walked around churned my stomach with irritation. When did Lucien employ somebody as stupid as her?

"I'm Amara Kade, but you all have to call me Madame," she let out.

God forgive me. I don't know if it was the way she said it or what she actually said, but I ended up chuckling. Since the office was silent, it was easy to know I was the offender.

"Hey! You!" Amara shouted, pointing at me. I could see the veins in her face and neck popping out slightly. "Get up and tell me why you find me funny."

The smile on my face dissipated. I also didn't know why I found her funny. Was it because she asked us to call her Madame? Who the hell did she think she was to ask for such a thing?

"I'm sorry, Ms. Kade," I muttered, making sure I spelled out her name loudly and clearly for everyone, including herself, to hear.

And as expected, her face twisted into horrified shock. There were low gasps from the colleagues beside me.

"Didn't you hear me? Call me Madame. I'm not your fucking Ms. Kade," she snapped, rushing to my side.

I saw her face clearly now. She was beautiful beyond doubt. Her face looked like it belonged on TV, either as a model or an actress. And for a moment, I felt jealous. A beautiful woman like her working with Lucien? He would be seeing her every day, and they would be going literally everywhere together. Did that mean my time with him was over? Whatever we had was...

"Acting dumb now, huh?" she yelled, jerking me back to reality. Her face had contorted into full-blown anger at this point, and I knew saying sorry wouldn't suffice. Well, it wasn't as if I wanted to say sorry. If anything, I would like to challenge her. To let her know she made a huge mistake by being here.

"Ms. Kade, I don't think Mr. Lucien would want us to use the title that belongs to his future wife for you," I muttered, my heart skipping. I just hoped she wouldn't open her mouth and affirm that she was the future wife. I didn't know what I would actually do if it turned out that way.

Her lips curled into a smile. "That should have told you something, idiot," she snapped at me. "That I'm the future Mrs. Gray."

My heart dropped to my stomach, and multiple emotions surged within me. She said it. She fucking said it.

And do you know the craziest part? She looked the part, and I fucking believed her.

Everyone gasped and adjusted themselves in their seats. They had just realized they couldn't afford to get on her bad side since she was the boss's girlfriend or even fiancée.

My eyes itched with a burning sensation. Why was this fucking hard? I should have known that whatever was between Lucien and me wouldn't last. It was just for the moment. Heck, I knew. I knew, but it still didn't stop this from hurting so badly.

Suddenly, she grabbed my jaw and dug her fingers into it roughly. Gosh. It hurt, but it couldn't be compared to the twitching and squeezing in my heart.

"So mind how you talk to me if you still want your job," she grunted. "Now, call me Madame."

I blinked. The word felt heavier than a 50 kg gym lift. Calling her Madame would be me approving her existence in Lucien's life.

Mtcheeew. It wasn't as if Lucien needed my approval to date anyone, but I just couldn't help feeling entitled.

And foolish.

How could he do this to me?

"Answer me, you wench," she barked. "Call me Madame if you still want to keep your fucking job." She hit the table.

I only stared. It was as if I'd made up my mind that it was better to lose my job than acknowledge another woman as Lucien's.

"You..."

"What are you doing?" Lucien's angry voice tore through the air, breaking the tension in the room.

Amara's breath hitched as she let out a low gasp, releasing her grip on my jaw and taking a step backward. The arrogant expression she had worn before Lucien's arrival had now been replaced with a sad, sulky one.

I glanced in Lucien's direction. His face was hard and cold, and fire blazed in his eyes as he stared between Amara and me.

"Lu... Lu," Amara called in a tiny, shaky voice.

What? Lu... Lu? She had a pet name for him already?

"Your workers are so disrespectful," she muttered, walking toward him. "Can you imagine that wench promised to slap me just because I asked her to complete a task?"

Lucien's stony gaze was now fixed on me, unblinking. My stomach flipped uncomfortably. What? Did he believe her? Would he criticize me because of her? My lips pressed into a thin line as my face fell.

Then he shifted his gaze to Amara, who was now standing in front of him.

"Let's go." He grabbed her hand and dragged her into his office.
