Chapter 51 A Strange Woman
Chapter 51 A Strange Woman
SIENNA
“Good morning, everyone,” Angel and I chorused as we walked into the office.
Everyone turned their heads in our direction, but their expressions weren’t what I expected when they saw us.
“Good morning, Sienna,” Catherine responded.
“Welcome back, Angel,” John chipped in.
They sounded weak and tired. I was forced to check the time to be certain it was still the beginning of the day and not the end. So why were they so tired already?
Angel and I shared glances. She raised a questioning brow, and I shrugged in obliviousness.
Putting my bag on the table, I reclined in the chair and shifted it toward Catherine’s work area. Since John’s space was right beside hers, it was easy to have him join in.
“Everyone looks tired when it’s just thirty-five minutes after resumption time. Did something happen?” I whispered, lowering my head.
“You don’t want to know, Sienna,” Catherine cried out, rolling her head back tiredly. “You really don’t want to know. Maybe I should have been a latecomer like you,” she added. “Being a punctual employee has put me in a lot of trouble.”
I glanced at John questioningly since Catherine wasn’t giving me the right answer.
He shrugged and lowered his head closer to mine. “A crazy woman is in the CEO’s office right now. She got here thirty minutes before the boss’s arrival, and she has already made life a living hell for everyone.”
My brows creased. “A crazy woman? Is she one of the bosses?”
John shook his head. “No. I think this is also her first time in the company. She has an employee card that confirms she’s the CEO’s personal assistant and secretary.”
I raised my head and glanced in the direction of Lucien’s office. A woman just resumed as his personal assistant? Who was she?
“Gosh, Sienna. You need to see her. She’s proud, uncouth, and cruel. You won’t believe the workload she gave us when she came,” Catherine finally let out, perking up. There was frustration and pain in her voice.
“What? You allowed a secretary to instruct you?”
“We were literally powerless,” John chipped in. “Oh! We forgot to tell you she came with the Old Madame’s secretary and was also introduced by her.”
“That means she must be somebody important and powerful.” Catherine clenched her jaw, her brows lifting. “She even called the boss by his name.”
I scoffed, finding the whole analysis and explanation difficult to believe considering how Catherine and John were. Deep down, I knew that was just an excuse to pretend there wasn’t a woman in his office and that what I feared wasn't about to happen.
Catherine’s and John’s voices drifted into my ears as they continued to spew everything that happened before my arrival, but I didn’t hear any of it. My gaze was fixed on the door. Who was she? Definitely, she wasn’t a normal person if the Old Madame’s secretary brought her over. But why did she call Lucien by name? Could she be family?
“The bastard even asked…”
“Can you both shut up and let me think?” I yelled at both of them, forgetting that we were in the office.
My voice garnered stares from everyone. They gaped at me like I was an idiot… or maybe I was. Instantly, I felt embarrassed. I lowered my head, nibbling on my bottom lip and digging my nails into my lap. I should have controlled myself. Now, I had to look for a reasonable excuse for why I suddenly yelled like someone who got bitten by a dog.
“It’s… I’m sorry,” I forced out, chuckling. “I suddenly got carried away…” My voice trailed off at the last part.
“Oh! We thought you…”
“And why are you playing when it’s not even break hour?” an unfamiliar feminine voice reverberated, causing me to raise my gaze.
