Chapter 15 Death is coming
“Awch”.
Dona exclaimed in pain and Hazel's eyes immediately opened wide.
“Oh my goodness, I'm really sorry”.
She said as she helped Dona off the floor.
“Seems you're in a pretty foul mood”.
Dona said as she held her back in pain.
“Did she say something”?
She asked and Hazel looked at her as though her words were unexpected.
“Say something like what”?
She asked, causing Dona to raise a brow.
“I mean, you do look like you're on edge after she left so I assumed she might have said something to get you worried”.
She explained and Hazel smiled nervously.
“Ohh, no… no she didn't say anything. I was just lost in my own thoughts”.
She said and turned, heading for the car.
“We should get going”.
Dona looked at her as she walked away. She was sure something happened and even though she couldn't figure out what it was, she knew it had to do with her.
Sighing a bit heavily, she went back to the car and they drove to Kael's place.
All through the trip back, none of them said a word, creating a very uncomfortable atmosphere.
When they arrived, Lucian ran over to Hazel.
“Mom, where have you been”?
He said and she smiled.
“Tired of your dad already”?
She asked but he immediately shook his head.
“No, I just wanted to show you how strong daddy is”.
The little boy said and Hazel shook her head.
“There's no point having kids”.
She said in a whisper before walking into the house. Kael was seated in the living room when Hazel walked in.
“Did you get what you went for”?
He asked as he turned his head to her.
“Mnn, they are all still the same as before”.
She said as she took a sit opposite him.
Kael looked towards the door and back at Hazel.
“Where's Lucian"?
He asked and Hazel immediately looked towards the door and looked back at him.
“Where's Dona"?
She said and immediately stood up, rushing out of the house.
Following his smell, they both tracked him down to the garden.
Hazel, unable to thing straight rushed towards Dona and pulled Lucian away from her. This surprised Dona and a few seconds later, even Hazel seemed to have come back to her senses.
“Mom”?
Lucian called, breaking the silence.
“Go inside”.
Hazel said and he rushed in.
“What's going on Hazel? If you want me to leave, all you have to do is say it”.
She said and Hazel cleared her throat, a bit embarrassed by her actions.
“I'm sorry, I didn't mean to…”
“I'm not sure what your friend said to you…”
She said cutting her off before she could finish talking.
“But I want to believe you have a mind of your own. She doesn't know me, you do… stop making me feel like I forced you to bring me along”.
She said and walked away. Hazel remained in the same spot with her eyes closed as she exhaled heavily.
“What's going on”?
Kael asked, pulling her attention.
“Do you suspect Dona”?
He asked and she turned to him.
“I don't want to Kael but isn't it weird”?
She asked and he looked at her with a brow raised.
“I mean, why didn't she tell me about Rave until we returned? Why did I meet Rave the moment she told me? And… how did Rave even get into the premises with so many guards”?
She said but Kael stayed quiet.
“I'm not saying she's Rave, I'm just saying that we can never be too sure. Even if she isn't the main culprit, she might be working for her”.
She added and Kael nodded.
“I understand you don't want to trust anyone. But she's been with you for five years, you could at least give her a little benefit of the doubt”.
He said and she sighed as she nodded.
“You're right, I feel bad but I can't help it. For some reason, Cathy's words are stuck in my head and I can't seem to get them out”.
She said
“Cathy? Did you meet her”?
He asked and she nodded.
“Mnn, she said she was here earlier and you told her were to find me”.
She said and he nodded.
“Mnn, I did but that was like five minutes ago”.
He said and she smiled.
“What are you talking about? That was almost twenty minutes ago”.
She said.
Kael remained quiet, wondering if he got the timing wrong.
“I guess you're right”.
He said after a while and she smiled.
Dona was so sad she curled herself in the bed and covered her body completely with the duvet.
She was used to being accused and judged but this time around, she wasn't even sure what she was being accused of and to make it worse, she was being accused by Hazel. Someone she already considered her best friend.
Hazel walked into the room a while later and noticed Dona was covered from head to toe.
“Hey, about earlier”.
She said but Dona said nothing and remained under the cover.
“Look, I don't know what came over me. I've been acting out of place, I know that and I'm sorry".
She said but Dona still remained quiet.
Hazel moved close and sat beside her.
“At least speak to me”.
She said and pulled off the cover, only to see Dona's eyes completely red with blood pouring out like tears.
“They are coming”.
She suddenly said and Hazel stood up from the bed in fright.
“Death! death!! Death!!! They are going to kill us all”.
As soon as she said that, she suddenly began to laugh.
It can't be stopped, she's winning. She's evil”.
She said and Hazel moved back, holding her head in pain as Cathy's words kept ringing in her head.
“Be careful who you trust”.
Her back hit the wall as she sat on the floor, covering her ears and closed her eyes so she wouldn't hear anything anymore and all of a sudden, she was met with silence. The voice in her head and Dona's screams, it was all… silent.
She gently opened her eyes, only to see Dona right in front of her.
“Fuck”!!
She exclaimed, completely startled.
