I didn't go anywhere with Cael but during lunch, Fabian invited me out for a date.

So I told Tori.

"What if he's not really your mate? What if it's a trap? We don't even know anything about him."

"Um.. that's what the date is for."

"Stop being so smart with me, this is important. Your safety!"

"He's a human, Tori. What's he going to do? You didn't care this much when Kane was taking me for a ride."

"And I'm sorry about that. I didn't know he would go that far. Most girls just give him what he wants and I never thought... Just don't get yourself killed, okay?" She huffed and then walked away.

"That went well," I turned to see Naomi with a dark guy on nicely parked dreads.

"Hi?"

"Sorry, I wanted you to meet Michael."

"Hello, when did this happen?"

He shook my hand but my eyes were still on Naomi.

"You know you were busy, you still are. But he walked me home once when my car was bad and... He asked me to be his girlfriend yesterday."

Shit, I'm so self-absorbed it's disgusting.

"I'm sorry Naomi, I didn't realise I was being a terrible friend."

"Girl please. You have your hands full with a lot of things."

"It's not an excuse. Not one bit. Look, I'm going out with Fabian after school. I'm skipping... That other one. Can we make it a double date type of thing?"

She looked at Michael.

"Wait, Mr Fabian? The teacher with smouldering eyes?" He asked.

"Yeah, he's kind of my boyfriend."

"Isn't that like... illegal?"

"Baby, there's something I need you to understand. My best friend doesn't do normal or legal and all of that. She does whatever she wants."

"Now you're making sound really cool," I chuckled.

"'Cause you are. We definitely should. Where do we meet?"

I gave her the address and then went back to inform Fabian.

When I knocked on the door, I noticed a distinct... familiar scent.

What does he want with him?

Shit, did he realise I'm going out with him and wants to hurt him?

Vampires are equally territorial as wolves.

I don't wait, I pushed the door open quickly before things get out of hand.

"What are you doing here?!" I demanded, my heart beating out of turn.

He smiled at me like he knew what that does. Make me feel naked.

"I had some things I needed to discuss with... your teacher here. Specifically about you."

"About me?"

He nodded.

Probably telling him to stay away and ruining my last remaining chance of having a love life. I won't let that happen.

"Look, can we talk outside?"

"Now? I was just about telling him how you need extra attention and –"

"Now Mr Valkori!"

"Jeez, what is happening?" Fabian asked, not as upset as I expected but I wasn't focused on that for now.

"Let me go find out," Cael said and then came to me.

I dragged his hand to the hallway after the teacher's area where we could have a bit of privacy.

Dangerous, I know but it's a bit close to the portal so I can run if push comes to shove

"Did you get my gift?"

"Yes and no, I'm not going anywhere with you."

"How then am I supposed to earn your forgiveness?"

"I don't know, figure it out but for now, stay the hell away from him. He's human, defenceless, but he's my mate! I don't know how I got handed two but I guess the fates knew you'd be a douchebag and gave me options so to avoid all of this madness, I'm just going to reject you, okay?"

"No. Fuck no! What are you talking about?!"

"I don't understand, what were you expecting? That I'll forgive you and then what? I'll live the rest of my life with a mate bond pulling me to someone I cannot be with?"

"We can find... Something."

"No Cael. This is a failed bond, dead on arrival and we should just cut it off now before it starts ruining shit for us. Let me tell you this evening though it'll get me into trouble. The Council, knows you're here and I'm sure soon, I'll be asked to come. What if they force me to hand you over to them?"

"I know you won't."

"I also thought I won't be a murderer for some bullshit reason but look at me now!"

"Baby girl," his voice softened, cupping my cheeks, "I was so excited about your strength that I didn't think of what it would cost you to get it."

"My innocence. My choice. I don't want to hurt you. Unlike you, this bond completely fucks with my head and I just need it to stop. Okay?"

"But cutting it completely... Please I just can't let you do that, okay?"

"Why the fuck not? Didn't you say you're going to leave and never come back?"

"Yes but what if something changes? What if I find a way for us to be together? I'm not going back to England to just sit still. I'm going to keep looking for a way to break this curse. Standing next to you right now is already weakening me."

I stepped back immediately.

"It is?"

"You don't understand your own power, do you?"

"Everyone just keeps telling me I'll kill you and your brother, I didn't know.. how."

"This is more complicated than you can ever imagine but please. No rejection. Give me till the end of the two weeks. If I never find a way out, you can reject me and be with... him."

"I'm already with him, I'm choosing myself now that I can. Who knows what the future holds?"

"He's perfect for you, you didn't hear me say that though."

"Well look at you being honest. Shocking."

"You're never going to let that go, are you?"

"Never," I smirked.

"Fuck, I miss when you didn't look at me like... that."

"You were plotting my death then so I can't really say I want it back."

"Alright, enough torture for me today. If I may, can I have you for lunch tomorrow since he's getting you dinner tonight?"

"My blood isn't for your consumption, Cael."

He laughed.

"Come on, you know what I mean."

"I'll think about it."

He kissed my forehead and was gone before I could look back up.

"He's so hot," Sabrina gushed in my head.

Trust my wolf to make things harder to deal with.

"What? I'm just stating facts."

"We're not supposed to like him!"

"Oh, my bad."

I shook my head but I was smiling as I headed back.

"What was all that about?" Fabian asked as I closed the door behind him.

Gah, I hated lying to him so badly but until he falls in love with me, I can't tell him anything about us.

"Mr Valkori and I had a bit of a tiff when he was teaching me. I didn't want him to corrupt you, that's all."

"What was it about?"

"He graded me differently because he expected more from me than usual. Pushed me too hard and felt I had to impress him more than others."

"You don't have to worry about me. I know how much other parts of your life matter so I won't stress you too much. Besides you're doing better than all of your classmates."

"It's because you're a great teacher. Are you ready to go? My friends are coming along."

"Oh," he looked down.

"Is that a problem?"

"Oh, not at all. I just thought we needed some alone time."

"Sorry, it's either her or Tori. Your pick."

"I don't think your cousin likes me that much."

"She doesn't know where to place you. Also, it might have to do with the fact that most of the girls, especially Cara want you and are upset that you want me instead."

He was finally done packing up and came to where I stood.

He wrapped his arms around me securely.

"I more than want you love. I crave you in ways that make it difficult for me to sleep at night."

"We have to get going or we'll miss our reservation."

"Haha, you're right. Let's go.”
