His own thoughts
VIOLET'S POINT OF VIEW

The light wasn’t just a house,The closer we got, the clearer it became.....It was an inn.
Small,Warm and Lit softly from inside like a place people actually lived in.I let out a breath I didn’t even realize I was holding.

“…oh thank God.”

Dylan gave a quiet “yeah,” and I felt the same relief in his voice. We hurried up the small wooden steps, rain still pouring around us, our clothes clinging to our skin. His hand was still locked with mine.....tight, steady, like neither of us had even thought to let go.

He knocked,Once,Twice....For a second, nothing,Then footsteps....The door opened slowly, and an older woman appeared, wrapped in a shawl. Her expression changed immediately when she saw us......two soaked teenagers standing in the rain.

“Oh my goodness,” she said quickly.

“Come in, come in!”We didn’t hesitate,The moment we stepped inside, everything changed.....Warmth......Dry air......Silence,I exhaled deeply.

“…this is the best place on earth right now,”I muttered and Dylan let out a small breath beside me.

“Yeah… pretty much.”The woman shut the door and looked between us with a soft, knowing expression.

“You two look like you’ve been fighting a storm."

“You could say that,” Dylan replied.
She smiled faintly.

“Well, you’re safe now."She said and I believed her immediately.Dylan stepped forward a little.

“Um… do you have any rooms available?”The pause she gave made something in my stomach tighten.

“…rooms?” she repeated.

“Yeah,” he said.

“Just somewhere to stay until the rain eases.”Another pause.

“I’m afraid we’re quite full tonight.”she said and My heart sank.

“…full?” I echoed quietly.

“There was a group earlier,” she explained.

“Travelers. They took most of the rooms.”
Of course.I glanced at Dylan......He looked tired now too.......Thinking.

“…is there anything at all?” he asked.
The woman studied us for a moment.
Then nodded slowly.
“There is one room left.”Relief hit me instantly.
“Okay......yeah, we’ll take it,” Dylan said quickly. Then she added......

“.....…it's a good thing it's you and your girlfriend because it only has one bed.”
Silence,My brain paused. Girlfriend??,One room??One bed??I felt Dylan shift slightly beside me.

“That’s… fine,” he said and I looked at him. Just for a second.

“…yeah. That’s okay,” I added softly,The woman smiled like she’d seen this kind of situation before.

“Second door on the left.”she said and We took the key and We walked down the hallway together......Neither of us spoke.
Not because there was nothing to say But because suddenly ....there was too much. The room was simple.
Warm light,Soft bed, Rain tapping against the window,One bed and I stepped in slowly.

“…it’s nice,” I said quietly.

“Yeah,” Dylan replied, closing the door behind us.

The sound of rain felt louder now, Closer,Like it was pressing in on us......We stood there for a moment, Dropping ....Not looking at the bed. Then I let out a small laugh.

“…well.”

“Yeah,” he huffed.

I glanced at him. “I guess we’re sharing.”
“Guess so.”
My heart did something strange at that.
Then my phone rang.
“…sht it's my mom.”
“Go ahead,” he said softly.
I turned away a little as I answered.
“Mom?”
“I’m okay,” I said quickly. “It’s raining really badly, I got stuck somewhere safe… a small inn.”
I glanced at Dylan briefly.
“I’ll try to be home before 12… or 1 if it doesn’t stop.”A pause.
“I will. I promise.”
I hung up.
“She said to be careful,” I told him.
“We will,” he nodded.
And suddenly.....it was quiet again.
But not empty quiet.
Aware quiet.
I wrapped my arms around myself.
“I’m still cold.”
“Yeah,” he said softly. “We should probably dry off.”
We found towels.
And for a while, that’s all it was.
Drying our hair. Our arms. Trying to pretend this was normal.
But it wasn’t.
Because every time I looked at him—
Something pulled tight in my chest.

The rain outside softened into a steady rhythm.
I stood near the bed, towel around me, fingers running through my damp hair.
Dylan stayed near the chair like he wasn’t sure where to put himself.
“So,” I said quietly.
He looked up.
“I guess we’re actually stuck here.”
“Yeah,” he replied. “Looks like it.”
I glanced at the bed.
Then back at him.
“You can take the bed,” he said suddenly.
“What? No.”
“I’m serious. I can take the chair or floor.”
I frowned. “That’s not happening.”
“It’s fine, Violet.....”
“No.” I stepped a little closer without thinking. “We’re not doing that.”
“…then what are we doing?” he asked.
I hesitated.
Just a second too long.
“We’ll share it.”
The words came out before I could rethink them.
His eyes shifted slightly. “Are you sure?”
I met his gaze.
“Yes.”
No doubt in it.
Not really.
He nodded slowly. “…okay.”
We sat on the bed eventually.
Careful. Leaving space between us, but not too much.
The rain outside had settled into something steady now. Not loud anymore… just constant. Like it wasn’t going anywhere.
We sat on the edge of the bed.
Careful. Too careful.
There was space between us, but it didn’t feel like space that would stay for long.
I kept my hands in my lap, fingers twisting the hem of the towel without thinking.
Dylan stared at the floor for a moment longer than necessary.
“…today was kind of crazy,” I said softly.
“Yeah,” he answered quickly. Almost too quickly.
Silence dropped again.
Not empty. Just… loaded.
I exhaled a small laugh. “Okay, really crazy.”
That made him huff lightly, like he was trying to act normal again.
“Really crazy,” he repeated.
I glanced at him.
And something about his face made my chest tighten again—like he was sitting still on purpose.
Like if he moved too much, something would break.
“…but I liked it,” I said before I could stop myself.
That got him to turn.
Fully.
“You did?” His voice came out quieter than before.
I nodded. “It didn’t feel planned. It just… happened.”
He held my gaze for a second too long.
Then he looked away again.
“…some of the best things usually do,” he said, but it felt like he was talking more to himself than to me.
Another pause.
Longer this time.
My heart started acting annoying again.
I shifted slightly. “You’ve been weird since yesterday.”
That finally broke something in his calm.
His jaw tightened just a little.
“…I haven’t been weird.”
I raised a brow. “You have.”
He let out a small breath through his nose, like he didn’t want to admit it.
“I just…” he started.
Stopped.
Ran a hand through his hair once, then let it fall.
“I just had stuff on my mind.”
I stared at him.
That answer wasn’t an answer.
But I didn’t push.
Not yet.
“…you’re going to tell me eventually,” I said quietly.
Not teasing.
Just sure.
His eyes flicked to mine again.
“…yeah,” he said.
But this time it didn’t sound like agreement.
It sounded like pressure.
The silence after that felt different.
He shifted closer slightly.....not enough to notice if you weren’t paying attention.
But I noticed.
Always noticed.
“Are you still cold?” he asked.
“A little.”
He hesitated.
Just for a second.Then......
“Come here.”
Something in my chest paused.
I looked at him.
“Dylan…”
“Just.......” he cut himself off, softer now. “Come here.”
So I did.
Slowly.
Carefully.
Until the space between us disappeared completely.
His hand came up, resting on my arm warm, steady but his fingers weren’t fully relaxed.
Like even touching me took effort.
I stopped breathing properly for a second.

“…better?” he asked.
His voice was lower now.
Closer.

“Yeah,” I whispered.

But I wasn’t sure I meant it.
Because now I could feel everything.
His warmth. His hesitation. The way he wasn’t looking away anymore.
Just looking At me Like he’d been holding that look in for too long.

“Dylan…” I said again, quieter this time but He didn’t answer,He just lifted his hand slowly,Brushed a damp strand of hair from my face. And that small touch That was what broke the line.My breath caught instantly and His eyes dropped to my mouth for a fraction of a second.

Then back up,Like he was asking without words.I didn’t move away.
That was my answer. He leaned in slowly.
Not rushed,Like he was giving me every chance to stop him But I didn’t So I closed the gap.The moment didn’t end with a sound,It just… loosened.

Like something between us had shifted and neither of us knew how to hold it properly anymore.I pulled back slightly, my breath uneven, my thoughts still trying to catch up with what just happened.Dylan stayed still for a second longer,Then he exhaled.

“…I’m sorry.”The words landed wrong immediately,I blinked at him.

“Why are you sorry?”He looked at me like he didn’t even know he’d said it out loud.
Then he ran a hand through his hair, slower this time.

“I don’t know,” he admitted quietly.
That made my chest tighten a little.
He wasn’t looking at me now.

“I just…” he started, then stopped again.
A pause,Longer this time.Like he was trying to find the right place to put the feeling.
“I think I’m just saying sorry,” he said finally, voice lower,

“in case something happens.”
I frowned slightly.

“In case what happens?”He hesitated.
That hesitation said more than words ever could.

“In case I do something ,” he said carefully,

“that hurts you later.”
Silence. The rain outside kept tapping the window like nothing important had just shifted inside the room. But I couldn’t look away from him.

“…Dylan,” I said softly.
He finally met my eyes. And there it was,Not guilt,Not regret but Fear.

“I don’t want to mess things up,” he added, quieter now.

“Not with you.”My throat tightened a little.
Because that wasn’t rejection,That was care.Too much care,I shook my head slightly.

“You didn’t do anything wrong.”

“You think??” he said quickly. Then softer, almost frustrated with himself.....

“I just don’t trust myself with… this.”
That hit differently.
I shifted a little closer without thinking.
“You don’t have to apologise for something that didn’t even happen yet,” I said.
A faint, almost helpless breath left him.
“That’s the problem,” he muttered.
I watched him for a moment.
Really watched him.
The way he sat there like he was already preparing to lose something he hadn’t even named yet.And something in me softened.

“…you’re not going to hurt me,” I said quietly.
He looked at me like he wanted to believe it.
But couldn’t fully.
“I don’t k
now that,” he admitted.
I held his gaze.
“Then stop borrowing pain from the future,” I said gently.
That made him pause.
For a second… he didn’t respond.
Just looked at me.
Like I was the only thing in the room keeping him from disappearing into his own thoughts.
