Chapter thirty one
Chapter thirty one
I woke up in a strange room that was marked with strange symbols. I could remember what I felt, what I thought, and how I was acting before I slept on the wheel.
My mind was clear now, and I remembered Marianne from last night. She had given me a green powder for me to drink. She said we would meet again out of town.
I remember all the feelings I felt like they were not my own, thoughts that were definitely not my own. Even the mood was not my own. How could she? How did she do that?
I had woken up because I heard some groans of pain, and it was still dark in the room. It didn't seem like there was a window.
My head was heavy, with my hands chained on the bed I felt myself on. I hoped Marianne was not some crazed person who had it out for Drew.
How could I trust a stranger over my own husband? I admit he was a bit strange over the past months, but he was still someone I knew over ten years. I married the guy for hell's sake!
I spent the majority of my time mulling over my life decisions, trying to see where I went wrong in the choices I took that led me to here; chained on the bed, and a possible kidnapping of two people.
I was convinced the man groaning was in the same position as me.
After a while, I heard footsteps outside the room. They were light, but I could hear them. The door was unlocked and flung open. The light from the hall flooded in, hurting my eyes.
When I adjusted, Marianne was at the door, with a bright smile on her face. She had on a tight coat over herself, then switched on the light.
"Good evening, Leon. How are we today?"
I didn't reply. My eyes went to the figure on the chair, barely awake. The man was tied to the chair, head lolled to the side, but he ws still breathing, and he was making those little pained noises.
"Oh, don't worry about him. We'll pay attention to him later."
The fear was delayed, but it definitely arrived at that moment. I looked at Marianne in fear, my heart beating loudly that I wasn't surprised when she remarked, "That heart of yours just wants to leap right into my mouth. Control it or someone else might just take it out."
I didn't understand what she meant, but I tried to calm down. I failed. I couldn't calm down especially when her eyes were still on me, assessing me.
"Don't be scared, Leon. It's just little ol' me. I'm just a little lady. What will I do to you?" She had on a little voice that seemed to mock me.
There was a glint in her eyes that told me she was enjoying this a little too much.
What's wrong with me? Why did I entertain her in the first place?
"There was a good reason why you decided to listen to me. We all have somethjng against that husband of yours. Even you, believe me."
"What did you do to me?" I asked, deciding to ignore what she said. Why did I trust someone who had it out for Drew?
She sighed, stepping into the room. The door was still very much open, the beige wall not much to look at. I tried to keep eye contact with her, but her eyes were a bit unnerving.
"That powder? It was just a little something for me to control your thoughts and get in your head. I couldn't do it naturally because your husband has got a pretty good hold of your mind."
"Because what? He's a vampire?" I retorted.
Marianne smiled so wide I thought her lips were going to tear. "Don't tell me you don't believe it. I was sure Finley did a pretty good job convincing you."
Now I knew she was mocking me. Did Finley know her? Were they in cahoots to make a mockery out of me?
She waved a hand, saying, "Don't worry. I only know Finley from your thoughts. Don't be jealous."
The man on the chair seemed to be a bit more aware than I thought as he made a loud noise. The annoyance from Marianne scared me as she went ahead to him. She punched his exposed neck.
I heard a snap. My mind ran wildly trying to see if she killed him.
"I didn't kill him. I need him alive anyway," she let me know. I was not assured.
I saw he was still breathing. I was a bit relieved. If he was killed, I knew I was next.
Marianne rolled her eyes and came to sit on the bed, touching my leg. "You're so gullible, Leon. No wonder Drew had a field playing with your head. You're too easy, trusting and so naive."
I was none of those things. She was just trying to get a rise out of me, and it didn't work. I was not thinking about her words, but my survival. I didn't want to die. I am still too young to leave this world.
I heard her laugh, tears on the rims of her eyes. "You're so funny, Leon. You'll die young anyway, if Drew has anything to do with it."
"You think I'll believe you over my husband?" I spoke, my voice hard. There was no need to antagonise my kidnapper, but I couldn't help myself.
"Like I said, so naive. Too trusting and too gullible. Anyway, this is not what I came here for. I wanted to let you know that yes, your husband, Drew, is a vampire. I also am one."
Like I would believe a bitch in a trench coat.
She made a little gasp, hand on her chest. "You wound me, Leon. Now I'm so angry I want to take bite out of that man." She pointed to the man on the chair.
She stood up, then stomped to the man. She turned around and looked at me. She smiled, her teeth on full display.
Her teeth elongated, fangs in place. Was she trying to scare me with fake fangs?
"Not scared yet, darling?" She asked, eyes changing to red.
It didn't fully register to me that she might not be lying until she smelled the exposed neck of the man, fangs lightly scraping the skin. She kept her eye contact as she quickly sunk her fangs into the man's neck, then sucked.
Her mouth was red, blood all over.
The first drop of blood to hit the ground made me lose consciousness. All I could see was black when I finally succumbed under the pressure of what I just saw.
