Chapter 63 Can't Have Kids
Cara blinked. "Ma--marriage?"
"Seriously Andrew?" Rick arched his brow. "They just got together and you're already asking them about marriage?"
"I mean they aren't kids anymore and we are all aware of how much Romeo loves kids and wants to settle down and start his own family." Andrew stated.
"Let's just skip to the drinking part please? This questioning is boring." Jastrow added.
Andrew scoffed. "Alright, alcoholic drunk. Drink till you drop."
Just like that, the question was averted.
They spent the rest of the day having casual conversations then sometimes it slipped into work talks but only briefly.
They drank, danced and partied but Cara was not as free and happy as she was before. She would fake a smile whenever Romeo was around so he wouldn't ask her what the problem was but once he was out of sight, her worry came back to eat at her.
'Romeo loves kids and wants to start his own family? That future is impossible with me!' The words haunted her brain.
What about his friends, they had come to accept her because they could tell that her love for Romeo was genuine but what would they say when they found that she couldn't give Romeo the future he had always wanted?
Wouldn't they advice Romeo to leave her and find a better woman? What would they even think of her? It wasn't her fault but who would listen to her excuses and who would even ask?
She emptied her cup at once in her mouth and rose to her feet. Evening was starting to settle in and the cold air was seeping into her skin.
"Hey, you alright?" Romeo asked as he came closer to her.
She nodded her head and looked up at him. Her eyes stared into his and her heart suddenly felt so heavy. She could never give him what he wanted. Would their relationship that had only just started come to an end like that?
Why was she so unfortunate? Happiness was an illusion and Romeo was the illusionist. Without the illusionist, there could be no illusion. How would she live?
Tears welled up in her eyes and she turned and walked away before he would notice it. But Romeo followed after her.
"Cara, something is bothering you. You can tell me, please?" He kept calling out to her as he followed.
She couldn't stop the tear from falling down her face now. "No I... I just... I just had too much to drink. I just want to sleep."
He held her wrist and turned her to face him. He stared confusedly at the tears that ran down her face and wiped it off with his strong hands.
"Why are you crying?" His voice was like a soft breeze brushing against her face. "Cara you know you can tell me anything, right? I'm here to share your pain so you shouldn't hide it from me when you are hurting."
"Romeo I... I'm so sorry but I..." Her tongue slipped out and licked her lower lip. She sniffed. "Marriage? Who am I kidding? I can't be with you like that."
"What-- what are you talking about? Don't listen to Andrew. I mean it's not like I am not planning on spending forever with you, I'm just saying that nothing like that will happen until you are ready for it."
"No Romeo, it isn't that simple. I can't... I can't do that to you."
He squinted. "Can you please try to make me understand the problem here? I can't see what you are not showing me."
"Romeo, you want kids and I... I can't have kids... I mean the doctor says I'm fine but nothing worked with Chris so-- I mean at first I thought he was the problem but look, he has a child with Jessica. So obviously I am the problem."
He stared silently at Cara and let out a soft sigh...
Chris turned around on his bed and his hand landed on someone lying in front of him. He opened his eyes and saw Jessica laying there.
He stared at her and asked himself why he even let her in his room in the first place. He didn't love her anymore, he wasn't even sure he ever did. But remembering how it felt like to be with her in bed, maybe he could just use her to satisfy his needs once in a while until Cara was back.
But Jessica believed her plan had worked and in some way, it had. At least he would crave for her. But maybe it didn't work in the way she wanted.
She opened her eyes and sat up as he heard the sound of Chris getting up from bed. "Hey you." She smiled.
"You should go back to your room." He plainly said as he began to dress himself.
"Have toy forgotten so quickly?" She smiled. "This is our matrimonial bedroom--"
"It used to be but is now my bedroom. We agreed to sleep in different rooms after all, didn't we? Your privacy mattered a lot to you." He cut her off.
She fought back the urge to frown. Of course, it was expected of him to play hard to get. But she was not someone who gave up easily on what she wanted.
She climbed out of bed, naked and began to pick up her clothes from the floor. She smiled when she noticed Chris staring at her naked body. She had a good shape, curvy and beautiful. No man, she was sure, could resist a body like hers.
"Are you heading out?" She asked him in a sweet tone.
Chris blinked. "I'm off to see someone... Get dressed and leave before someone sees you in here."
"I'm your wife for goodness sake." She chuckled softly. "Anyway, if you need me tonight, you know where to find me."
She blew him a kiss as he walked out of the room. Smiling, she was pleased with the result but just in case...
"I had better find something tangible to use against him if I want this to be flawlessly done."
