Chapter 43 Embarrassing moment
The cool rhythm of the breeze flowed through Cara's hair as they drove down the free road of Los Angeles city. The air had never felt any more fresh as Cara left the window winded down.
Part of-- well most of-- the reasons she had left the window down was because her face kept burning red and the last thing she would want was for Romeo to see.
He casted glances at her occasionally but didn't think to interrupt or start a conversation. She seemed to be enjoying the wind as it kept ruffling through her hair.
Cara closed her eyes and listened to the wind, letting it calm her beating heart. But yet, her heart kept racing. Just a touch of the hand, yet her heart kept fluttering like it would fly out of her chest.
The butterfly in her stomach kept flapping its wings without rest. 'Will you calm down?' She said in her mind to herself. 'Stop reading meaning to such little things!'
Her eyes popped open in anger. She snapped her head to the side, casting a glance at Romeo.
He was collectively cool, his emerald gem for eyes staring straight at the road with just one hand on the steering wheel. Men always looked extra hot when they drove with one hand. Oddly.
'How can he be so calm after touching me like that? But how exactly did he touch me? Just holding my hand. It isn't anything special now is it? But why can't I shrug it off?'
He turned his head to look at her and she immediately looked ahead. Batting her lashes repeatedly as she swallowed.
Romeo's brows creased. "Is... Everything okay?"
"Huh?" She turned to look at him.
"Did the elevator bump shake you too much or something? Or are you feeling uneasy?" He asked in a soft tone.
"Oh that... No, no." She chuckled awkwardly. "No I'm..." A sharp pain stung at the bottom of her stomach and she winced softly. The pain had been happening for a while now. What could be... The cause? "What... Is today's date?" She asked with a nervous chuckle.
"Oh it's sixteenth of November, why?"
Her eyes widened. "Oh shit!" She exclaimed.
"What? What is it?" Worry flickered across his emerald eyes as she turned to look at he
"How could I have forgotten...?" She muttered quietly to herself. "Uhm... Do you-- do you think we can make a quick stop at a place I could use the rest room?" Her hand subconsciously rubbed the bottom of her stomach.
His eyes darted towards the direction but he pretended not to see. "Oh uhm... Okay, I think there should be a mini mart around here or something. Hold on."
After driving forward a little bit, he smoothly parked in front of the mini mart and undid his seat belt.
"Oh it's okay," Cara said with a nervous smile on her face.
"No, let's go together." He said as he got down from the car.
"Oh shit..." She muttered softly to herself before getting down from the car too. After another failed attempt to tell him to leave, they both went into the mini mart together.
As she darted towards the bathroom direction, Romeo held her hand and pulled her back. "Wait," he said, his grip firm on her wrist. Wordlessly, he led her to a shelf filled with different sanitary products.
She stared wide eyed at him. "What are you...?"
"You don't have to say anything to explain, just pick a brand and go to the bathroom." He said without taking his eyes off the sanitary pads.
Cara felt her inside turn red from embarrassment. Was there a bigger fool than her? Forgetting the date of her own period! How could she be so stupid?!
Worse, she left the house unprepared with the plan of spending days on a cruiser!
Her face scrunched into an embarrassed expression as she reached for a brand she recognized.
He took it from her hand abruptly and led her to the cashier. "I'll be paying for this, she's in a hurry so I'll bring another for you to swipe."
The Lady at the register nodded with a soft grin.
"Here," he turned back to face Cara and handed it to her. "Go ahead. I'll be here when you're done."
Cara looked embarrassedly at the Lady at the cash point who was smiling at her. She flashed an embarrassed smile before taking the pad from Romeo and running to the bathroom.
She thought she would cry. Why didn't the earth just open up and swallow her? Was this punishment for... For what exactly!
The worst thing ever was for Romeo of all men to know that she had forgotten her own period! Romeo!
"Oh god damn it..." She muttered with her eyes closed.
Meanwhile, Romeo picked up a basket and threw in a bunch of other sanitary pads and things necessary for periods.
"You should buy the disposable underwear."
Romeo flinched at the voice of the female cashier. "Oh... Okay, thank you." He managed a smile. As pleasant as it could get.
"Do you mind if I help you choose out some things? Since I'm a girl anyway." She smiled quirkily.
"Oh uhm... Okay, sure. Thank you." He nodded his head slightly with an appreciative smile. That kind of help he could use because he didn't know much about what he was doing.
"You know," the Lady started. "I'm Darla by the way. Most women these days prefer to use a tampon, she must have not want to break your heart by saying so."
"Oh... Well can you give it to her for me? The tampon?"
"Sure." Darla smiled. "Please watch the store and yell my name if anything happens or someone needs me."
"I will remember that."
Darla nodded approvingly before taking the tampon to the women's bathroom. "Hello?" She called out. "Lady who came with the impossibly handsome man with green eyes?"
Cara knew immediately she was the one being spoken to. So she ducked her head out of the slightly opened door. "How may I help you?"
"Oh hi, your boyfriend wants me to give you these." Darla stretched her hand forward.
Cara's eyes widened on seeing what was being handed to her. She sighed. "Dear God..."
