Chapter 169 Happy Beginning
"CEO of Knowles cooperation was arrested this morning in Panama City for attempted murder. He was said to have fled after his whole family and company were being investigated for several crimes such as stealing of funds and cyber bullying and defamation.
"He was obsessed with his ex wife, Mrs Cara Armani, and attempted to kill her new husband during their wedding ceremony--"
The TV went off as Cara turned it off with the remote. She placed it on the table as she folded the extra bed spread.
"At last..." She sighed softly. After Jayden's confession, it took them three whole days before they could locate Chris and arrest him.
But she was relieved. It was over. Finally.
"Why did you turn it off?" A masculine voice asked from behind her.
"Oh sorry, I--" She turned around to look at the voice that had spoken as she reached for the remote.
The remote dropped to the ground with a clatter as she realized who had spoken.
Romeo was sitting up in his hospice bed, his emerald eyes shimmering as he stared at the woman he loved.
"Romeo?" Her voice shuddered as she called out his name. Her body rose from the sofa hesitantly, she wanted to confirm if she was dreaming.
Romeo whom had been in a coma for days was sitting up, looking at her with a smile on his face.
She batted her lashes, maybe she had gone delusional. Or maybe she was dreaming. She had dreamt once that he woke up and they could finally leave the hospital. Was she dreaming again?
She had to confirm.
Slowly, she walked over towards him and sat down next to her. Her hand raised to his face hesitantly, the moment her hand made contact with his skin, she could tell that she was not dreaming.
She threw herself into his arms and a soft grunt left Romeo's mouth. "Oh my God!" She yelled as she immediately pulled away. "I am so sorry! I am so stupid! I forgot! I didn't--"
"It's okay, it's okay." His lips spread into a smile. He cupped her face softly and caressed her cheek. "I was so afraid... I thought I'd never see you again. Everything felt like a dream, I heard your voice in my head all the time but it was so dark, I couldn't see you. That's what made me so afraid."
She could not help the tears that rolled down her face. "I was so afraid, I never want to let you go." Her forehead pressed against his softly.
His hands trailed down her back and gripped her waist. "You are my life, If you're not with me then what will I be? If you leave then you might as well take the breath from my lungs. You are the reason I live and the reason I die."
"Don't say that, don't die. Don't ever die. I should be the one saying those words. I don't know, I just don't have this poetic side in me."
Romeo broke out in a chuckle and she joined in.
Cara had so much missed the sound of his laughter, she never thought she would miss hearing someone laugh before.
His hand cupped her cheek and pulled her closer to his face, just a breath away-- the door pulled open and Romeo's parents walk in alongside Cara's dad and Miranda.
The excitement on their faces were beyond description as they saw Romeo sitting up. "You're... Alive!" Miranda exclaimed.
His mother rushed towards him and pulled him in a hug. "My poor boy, I was so afraid that i would never get to see your pretty eyes again! Oh my goodness!"
"Romeo! It is so good to see you awake!"
"My dear boy! I knew you would make it!"
They all commented.
Cara stood up from the bed and stood with her arms folded in front of her. She wore a gentle smile on her face as she watched them all hug Romeo and tell them how much they had missed him.
Joshua walked into the room just then, his wife by his side. He was surprised at first to see Romeo awake before relief washed over him.
Then he turned to look at Cara where she was standing and then at his parents and Romeo's parents.
His voice, loud and firm, took them all by surprise. "Can you guys not read the room?"
They all turned around towards him in surprise. He nudged his head forward towards Cara where she was standing and after not more than a second, they all understood what he was trying to say.
"Right! We should call the doctor!" Miranda said as she started towards the door.
"Yes you are right," Romeo's mother added, "we should call the doctor. All of us should go to his office and tell him Romeo is awake. We should also tell him that Cara needs one last check up to make sure the baby is in good health. Yes we should.
"It will take quite some time to explain everything to the doctor so you guys should go ahead and catch up okay?"
They all left the room, leaving Cara alone once again with Romeo.
She smiled and started towards the bed when the door suddenly opened again and Joshua peeked in, "lovely to see you again brother, you look like you have been resting for several days."
"Well that is what I have been doing in a way." Romeo responded.
They both shared a laugh. Joshua saluted, "later champion." Then he finally left the room.
Romeo let out a soft chuckle. "You know, I have to confess, your brother is one of a kind and I think I really like him."
"Really?" Cara asked with an arched brow as she seductively climbed the bed.
"Yeah, he is actually--"
"Shut up and kiss me." She cut him off with a smile on her face.
Romeo smirked. "I thought you would never ask."
As their lips met, Cara thought to herself, 'this isn't my happy ending, it's my happy beginning.'
