Chapter 142 A Favor
Jessica sat by a table, Jeremy on her lap. He played with the napkin on the table while she nervously waited for Cara to arrive.
Cara, on the other hand, stood by the entrance, thinking if she should really be meeting her at all. But she was there already so why not just go in?
With a soft sigh, she walked into the coffee place and spotted Jessica with her son. Her perfectly shaped brow arched, wondering what kind of trick Jessica was trying to pull by bringing Jeremy with her.
Well she would find out after sitting with Jessica. Walking up to her, she sat down with a stern expression on her face.
Jeremy looked up at her and smiled but she pretended not to notice.
"I'm here, get straight to the point." Cara did not give room for any act nonchalance from Jessica. Her voice made it known that she was there not willingly and she did not have any time to waste.
Jessica swallowed, choking on her pride. "Firstly, about what you saw earlier with me and Jayden--"
"Did I not tell you that it was none of my business?" She sighed, rolling her eyes. "For God's sake, Jessica, I don't give two fcks what you do with your life as long as it doesn't involve or concern me in any way!" She tried to make it clear to her.
Her eyes landed on Jeremy who was now looking up at her, she sighed and rubbed her weary forehead. "Sorry about the bad word... Jessica, listen, all I need from you right now is for you to leave me alone and tell Jayden to do the same, okay? I don't want anyone reaching out to me from your side. Delete my number or I will block you, you know I mean it."
"Cara--" Jessica said sharply. She cut herself off with a sigh. "I just want to be sure that you won't tell anyone about this or try to use it against me in any way--"
"I'm not like you Jessica!" Cara exclaimed. She felt so frustrated that she bafan questioning why she had even gone there in the first place.
Another frustrated sigh left her mouth. She did not know why she was so cranky, maybe it was part of being pregnant?
Either way, she did not want to get angry again in front of the kid. "Why did you bring your son here?" Cara questioned. "I hope it is not what I think it is which is to gloat by the way."
"No," Jessica responded softly. She looked down at her baby and smiled. Caressing his cheeks, she spoke, "I haven't been spending much time with him lately so I just wanted to go on a date with him. I ordered ice cream, don't know why they haven't brought it yet." She looked towards the counter and raised her hand. "My ice cream?"
The young lady at the counter nodded and immediately brought it. "Sorry for the delay." She apologized with a bow of her head before returning to her work.
Jessica took her time to open the cup of ice cream and handed her son the spoon. "He won't let me feed him, he is growing to be a very independent man if i might say."
"Jessica..." Cara called her name softly. "I am very sure you did not call me out here to watch your son lick ice cream. Why am I here? I won't ask again."
Jessica let out a sigh. How was she supposed to ask for something so absurd? She could not believe the words that left her mouth. "I... I need your help."
Cara's brow twitched. She crossed her arms below her breast and relaxed against her seat. "Go on." She would not say she was not surprised that Jessica had called to ask her for her help but she would not let it show on her face.
Jessica seemed to hesitant to spill. Her eyes searched the room like she was searching for the answer on the ceiling and on the walls. On the face of other people as well.
Cara decided not to rush her, instead, she sat there in silence and watched.
After several hesitant moments, Jessica finally decided to speak up. "Well you see... I was actually hoping that... I mean I wanted to ask you if you could borrow me huge sum of money. I need about... A hundred million dollars urgently and I just don't know where to start from--"
"A hundred million dollars?!" Cara exclaimed, cutting her off. "What the hell do you need such an amount for?"
"Come on, don't be so dramatic. I know that the ring on your finger costs more." Jessica stated. She pointed at Cara's necklace and earrings as well, "these too! Everything you have on worths more than I need by far! Don't even get me started on your car."
Cara stared at her in disbelief. "Oh so now you are trying to guilt trip me into giving you money, is that it?" She folded her arms back below her breast, speaking before Jessica could get a chance to speak. "Well your husband probably has such money too! Why are you here asking me for money when he can hand in to you?"
"Cara come on, I know that your net worth is swimming in billions right now and your husband has triple that amount! You guys are living in wealth, a hundred million will not even have any effect when removed from your account! And I am not even asking you for everything, I'll sort out some of it myself too, I just can't... I can't let Chris know about it if not, I would not be here!" She pouted.
Jeremy looked from his mother to the other stranger and back at his mother before focusing on his ice cream. He did not understand what they were saying and he did not bother to try.
Cara squinted her eyes, staring into Jessica's eyes. She could see the nervousness overflowing inside her. She thought for a moment, hoping her assumption was not true, but she just had to confirm. "Jayden is trying to blackmail you for money, isn't he?"
Jessica's eyes widened, wondering how Cara knew so easily.
