Chapter 79 Battle Of The Intellectuals

Chapter 79 Battle Of The Intellectuals

Kingston's POV

“Don't listen to whatever he's going to say to you all. He's a pathetic liar who should not be taken seriously,” I urged the cops intending to change the narrative.

I intend to prevent a time bomb that's due to explode. I want them to see Lucas for who he truly is and also get him arrested without any further delay.

I'm not happy with the lapses so far. I got my daughter back, but it's not enough. Seeing Lucas rot in jail will be the best thing that has ever happened to me in recent times.

There's no way I'm letting Lucas ruin my reputation when he starts spilling my secret to everyone.

He has the power to destroy my life and everything I've worked so hard to achieve in the last three decades.

I didn't regret killing his father. That was meant to happen. His father posed a threat to my ladder of success.

He was reluctant to sell half of the company's shares to me. A thousand times, I've tried to have a peaceful conversation with him, but he turned me down at every slightest opportunity.

And when I threatened him, he vowed to call the cops on me. I bet that was the reason he documented all our dealings in his diary.

He already knew he was never going to win the fight against me. Had I known he had a diary, I would have burnt it a long time ago.

All these years, I thought I had wiped out his entire family when I instructed my guards to hunt after Parker and Lucas and ensure they didn't survive.

But unfortunately, my guards lied to me. They practically made me believe that the job was done.

Seeing Lucas return to avenge the death of his father is pure karma. I never imagined that a day like this would emerge when I would be standing next to the man whose father I killed.

“Lucas is a drug addict. Perhaps, he had an overdose, and it's starting to affect his mental health! This man right here kidnapped my daughter and should spend the rest of his life behind bars. He doesn't deserve to be heard” I put more effort into stopping Lucas from causing damage to my life.

“You're a bloody coward, Kingston, and I'm not scared to say it to your face. Why are you trying so hard to change the topic? Why not tell everyone why I kidnapped your daughter? Or do you want me to do that for you? You know I would gladly accept the challenge,” Lucas clapped back at me.

I never envisioned him to still be this brave in the midst of his downfall. He's meant to be sober and remorseful.

He's the one who was found guilty of kidnapping and not me. The police don't have valid evidence to get me arrested.

It hasn't occurred to Lucas that he's about to get arrested. He still believes the whole set-up is a joke.

He's been ambushed by the armed cops with sophisticated weapons, ready to shoot on site.

He'd need a miracle to evade arrest. Not even the most dangerous drug cartel boss can rescue him.

The only way he can escape getting arrested is if he has possessed some superpowers to enable him to disappear freely from this place.
.

“What could possibly be the reason you kidnapped my daughter? Isn't it obvious? Of course, you did it for greed! You did research about me and felt it was profitable to extort money from me by kidnapping my daughter,” I brought up a perfect explanation that will be difficult to oppose.

I'd rather dine with the pigs than tell the cops the real truth behind Amira's kidnapping.

That will be me shooting myself in the legs. They might pardon Lucas and have me arrested instead.

“Mister Kingston is dangerous and very cunning. He needs to be avoided at all costs. I've got all the evidence against him. Stay tuned while I unravel the mystery soon,” Lucas announced to everyone as though he wanted to make a presidential speech.

He's truly the son of his father. His father must be really proud of him wherever he is right now.

Lucas hasn't given up yet. He's giving me a run for my money. No one has ever wrestled me to this level before.

The minute I walked in, I underestimated Lucas. I was so sure that he would be a walk in the park. But now, he's proving to be a hard pill to swallow.

He wasn't kidding when he vowed to ensure I go down with him. He's giving me reasons why I should be scared of him.

I felt the pressure inside of me. Still, I refused to accept the defeat or show any sign of weakness.

I am meant to be the main character here and not Lucas. He's stealing the show already with his bluntness.

It's just a matter of time before he starts winning the trust and loyalty of everyone including Margaret and Amira.

“How are we so sure that details in the diary aren't fabricated to push his silly agenda? Have we ever thought about that?” I deployed another tactic to save my ass.

I figured that if I am willing to emerge victorious, then I ought to be five steps ahead of Lucas. I'm not surprised that his brain is operating in a different dimension.

The motive behind his mission has been clear from the start; he wants to avenge his father's death and also benefit from it financially.

So far, no one has said anything in my defence, not even my so-called wife, Margaret. She is the first person I expected to have spoken up a long time ago.

Her silence means one thing; she seemed to be loving the chaos between Lucas and me.

The only thing left is a bottle of champagne and a bowl of chicken to enjoy the cinematic experience.

I am pretty sure she would do all it takes to witness more of this.

“Kingston, let the young man speak,” finally, a word from Margaret. “Why are you holding him back? Are you aware of the consequences of your actions?”

It wasn't the response that I expected from someone who is meant to be my wife and supporter. She made more sense while she was mute.

“Your wife is more sensible than you even though I had to admit it
You should listen to her more often.” Lucas praised Margaret while he mocked me in return.

This has been his plan all along. He was just looking for a means to tame me.

Despicable Margaret. I can't help but put the blame on her.

She brought this shame and disgrace upon me. She presented Lucas with the golden opportunity to mock me.

Margaret was once married to me for crying out loud. At some point in our lives, we meant the world to each other.

If she can't defend me in a critical situation like this, then why the heck did she get married to me?
I keep falling for her tricks like a fool.

I thought she wanted to make the marriage work again when she walked back into my life. This just proves that I've been alone in this marriage all along.

“Stay out of this, Maggie if you don't know what to say. This is none of your business. I'd appreciate it if you let me handle it my own way,” I shoved Margaret aside.

I had to focus more on Lucas since Margaret wants to become a stumbling block to my progress.

It's clear that she's very useless to me and everything that I stand for.

Depending on her support is synonymous with fetching water from a stream with a basket. It's a total waste of time.

“I am not backing off soon, Kingston. We are in this together. Do I need to remind you that we are still legally married?” She stood in front of me as though she wanted to hit me in the face.

“We are separated, Margaret,” I refreshed her lost memory. She must be living in a cave.

“Get that into your thick skull,” I touched her head.

“The marriage ended the night I caught you pants down with a boy who was supposed to be your cousin right on my matrimonial bed,” I disgraced her in the presence of everyone.

I also reminded her of her previous atrocious behaviour towards Amira before the cheating incident happened.

Two can play the game. Since she decided to act smart, it's only normal that I reminded her who's the boss.

“Remind me who signed the divorce papers again since you have chosen to become a manipulative person,” She returns with a different kind of tactic to defeat me in the argument.

She won me on that one. That's my biggest regret to date.

I had one opportunity to file for a divorce after she was caught cheating.

When she left the house in anger, I was hoping for her return. I was so madly in love with Margaret that I didn't consider remarrying.

Every night, I sleep alone in my room, cuddling my bedspread, while assuming that Margaret is next to me in the bed.

Margaret knew I couldn't survive with her so she decided to punish me by defiling our marital vows.

The night I caught her cheating wasn't her first. She was so unlucky to have met Waterloo that night.
