Chapter 170 World aside

Chapter 170 World aside
Third Person POV

Lilian lay in her bed, staring at the ceiling as the minutes ticked by. Sleep evaded her, her mind a tumultuous sea of emotions and thoughts. Her wolf paced restlessly within her, agitated and yearning

She turned over, trying to find a comfortable position, but it was no use. The bond she felt with Caleb was like a persistent itch she couldn't scratch, a need that gnawed at her insides.

With a frustrated sigh, she threw back the covers and got out of bed. The cold floorboards against her feet did nothing to soothe her restless spirit. She wrapped a shawl around her shoulders and quietly slipped out of her room, the moonlight casting soft shadows in the dimly lit corridor.

Her steps were silent as she made her way through the palace halls, the silence of the night amplifying the sound of her own heartbeat. She knew where she was going.

There was only one place she could go. She needed to see Caleb. To feel his presence. To understand what had happened between them.

When she reached his door, she hesitated for a moment, her hand hovering just above the doorknob. Her heart pounded in her chest, a mix of fear and hope battling within her. Taking a deep breath, she turned the knob and slipped inside.

The room was dark, but she could see the outline of Caleb's form lying on the bed. He looked peaceful, his features relaxed in sleep. The sight of him sent a wave of longing through her, and she stepped closer, her heart in her throat.

"Caleb," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "Caleb, wake up."

He stirred, his eyes fluttering open. For a moment, he seemed disoriented, but then his gaze focused on her, and his expression softened.

"Lilian," he murmured, sitting up and reaching for her. "What are you doing here?"

"I couldn't sleep," she admitted, her voice trembling. "I needed to see you. I... I can't stop thinking about you."

He got out of bed and closed the distance between them in a few quick strides. He pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly. "I was worried you'd never come to me," he said softly, his breath warm against her ear. "I've been waiting."

Her heart ached at his words. She buried her face in his chest, inhaling his familiar scent. "I don't know what's happening, Caleb. I feel like I'm losing my mind. But I know I can't be without you."

He gently lifted her chin, making her look into his eyes. "You're not losing your mind, Lilian. This bond between us is real. It's powerful. We're mates. We're meant to be together."

She nodded, tears brimming in her eyes. "I know. I feel it too. But everything is so complicated. You're my father's twin. How can this be right?"

He brushed a tear from her cheek, his touch tender. "It's right because it's us. The Moon Goddess doesn't make mistakes. We're meant to be together, no matter how complicated it seems."

She clung to him, her heart aching with a mixture of fear and hope. "I don't want to lose you, Caleb. Please, don't leave me."

He held her tighter, his voice firm and reassuring. "I'm not going anywhere, Lilian. We'll figure this out together. I promise."

In that moment, wrapped in Caleb's arms, Lilian felt at peace. The rest of the world could wait. All that mattered was that she was with him, and together, they would face whatever came their way.

171: With or without you

Third Person POV

After the tension of the night eased, Lilian and Caleb found themselves tangled in each other's arms on the bed. Caleb held her close, his warmth and steady heartbeat lulling her into a sense of safety she hadn't felt in a long time.

The bond between them was undeniable, and despite the confusion and complications, there was a deep sense of rightness in being together.

Caleb whispered soothing words into her ear, his voice a balm to her frayed nerves. Slowly, Lilian's eyes grew heavy, and she drifted off to sleep, cocooned in his embrace. Caleb watched her for a while, his fingers gently tracing patterns on her back, until he too succumbed to the pull of slumber.

They slept deeply, their bodies and souls finding solace in each other's presence. As the first light of dawn filtered through the curtains, Caleb stirred.

He looked down at Lilian, her features softened in sleep, and felt a surge of protectiveness and love. Carefully, he disentangled himself from her and pressed a tender kiss to her forehead.

"Hey, baby," he murmured softly, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "It's morning. We need to get ready."

She stirred, her eyes fluttering open. For a moment, she looked disoriented, but then she saw Caleb and smiled. "Good morning," she whispered, reaching up to touch his face.

"Good morning," he replied, his voice warm. "Come on, let's get cleaned up. We have a lot to face today."

They got out of bed and made their way to the bathroom. The shower was a welcome reprieve, the warm water washing away the remnants of the night. Caleb stood behind Lilian, his hands gently massaging shampoo into her hair. She leaned back against him, closing her eyes and savoring the intimacy of the moment.

As they rinsed off, Caleb turned her around to face him. "We'll handle this together, love. No matter what happens, I'm with you."

She nodded, feeling a surge of courage. "Thank you. I'm ready to face my father. We need to make him understand."

After they finished showering, they dried off and got dressed, their movements calm but determined. Lilian chose a simple dress shirt from his wardrobe, while Caleb dressed in dark trousers and a crisp shirt. They looked at each other, drawing strength from their connection.

Hand in hand, they made their way through the palace corridors, each step bringing them closer to the inevitable confrontation with Caden. As they approached the door to his study, Lilian's heart pounded in her chest, but Caleb's steady presence beside her gave her the confidence to proceed.

She took a deep breath and knocked on the door. "Father, it's Lilian. We need to talk."

A moment later, Caden's voice called out from within. "Come in."

They entered the room, the atmosphere heavy with unspoken tension. Caden looked up from his desk, his expression a mix of surprise and wariness. Aurora stood by his side, her eyes widening in support when she saw Lilian and Caleb together.

Lilian squeezed Caleb's hand, drawing strength from his steady grip. "Father, there's something you need to know. Caleb and I... we're mates."

Caden's eyes darkened with anger, but before he could speak, Aurora stepped forward, her voice calm but firm. They have already discussed this.

"Caden, please listen to them. This bond is fated. It's the will of the Moon Goddess."

Caleb stood tall, his gaze unwavering. "We're not here to ask for permission, Caden. We're here to tell you that this is happening. We need your support, not your opposition. But it will happen with or without you."

The room fell silent, the weight of the moment pressing down on everyone. Caden's jaw tightened, his eyes flicking between his daughter and his twin brother. Finally, he took a deep breath, the tension in his shoulders easing slightly.

"I don't like this," he said, his voice gruff. "But I understand the bond. I won't stand in your way, Lilian. Just... be careful."

Relief washed over Lilian, and she felt Caleb squeeze her hand in reassurance. "Thank you, Father," she said softly. "We'll make this work."

As they left the study, Lilian felt a renewed sense of hope. The path ahead wouldn't be easy, but with Caleb by her side and the tentative support of her father she knew who softened him like this. Aurora. His little fox.

Why didn't she see this way before? There has always been this special bond between her best friend and her father.
