Chapter 59 59
"I thought you knew." Mr Hills said, confusion on his face.
Liam scoffed, getting up as he unbuttoned his suit and pulled his collar slowly. His hands got to the edge of table, grabbing in tight.
"Tell your kids..." He gritted his teeth, his eyes dark, "...to watch their fvcking backs. Good day, Mr Hills."
Liam pulled his off his suit before he got into his car, unable to contain the heat of his own anger. Madness raged in his eyes. He had been played by a bunch of crazy idiots.
His fingers tightened on the steering, his teeth gritting hardly against each other so much that he could hear the sound in his ears.
"You all are fvcked." He muttered in anger and finally turned the steering on.
Alexandra looked at the time on her phone as she walked out of the company. It was really late already and the time was about 9 pm.
She had stayed in the office working so long on the new clothes because she wanted to have enough time for the kids birthday by weekend. A sigh escaped from her lips as she finally left the company and walked to the car park.
Her phone rang, "Hey, Doreen." She picked up.
"The clothes would be available by tomorrow. Would you come to the warehouse early in the morning to check?" She asked.
"Do I have anything on my schedule?" She asked.
"No, you don't in the morning. But in the afternoon, you have a meeting with Mr Pinewood."
"Oh, the man who informed us about his daughter's wedding?" Alexa asked as she got into the car, turning the engine on. It revved for some time and then stopped.
"Yes. He would like to go over the details with you." Doreen informed.
"Okay. I'll call you back, Doreen. My car is acting strange." She muttered.
"Do you want help with the repair? I can call someone right now."
"It's late. If it's anything serious. I'll simply take a cab." She said calmly.
"Alright ma." Doreen replied and ended the call.
Alexa turned the engine on again for this second time and this time it didn't even work out. She took a deep breath, biting her upper lips.
Ten minute later and she was done with the car. She hissed in annoyance as she got out and walked out of the gate, ready to get a cab.
It was late and she could barely see any cab on this road at this time. Her phone vibrated and she checked.
"Mom, where are you? Granny is here." It was a message from Jade, Alexa smiled as she typed a reply.
"I'll soon be home." She replied, turning the phone off as she placed it in her bag.
Droplets of rain fell on her skin as she looked up. It was sudden. She didn't know there would be rainfall today. She hadn't watched the weather forecast.
"Shit." She rushed to the blue canopy in front of Velvet Vixen and a smile spread on her lips. It had been a right decision to build this for the employees who couldn't stay under the sun or to protect themselves from the rain.
It got harder, a rain storm. Thunder and lightning attacked the sky and she almost shifted back into the wall. She was scared of it. She gulped.
Her mind going back to the nights when she would be scared and Liam would pull her close. He always did that, even when their marriage was going sideways. He had always been there for her. That was why she divorce had been such a big blow to her. She could handle him missing her birthdays but she never thought he would want to divorce her.
Realizing she was thinking about those nights, she decided to think about a different thing. She had been through a lot in the real world. The fear of thunder and lightning was nothing to her.
She regretted saying that almost immediately because lightning fired across the sky, the darkness being illuminated for more than a second. It followed with the roar of thunder and then another sharp lightning that she thought would strike her.
"Arrghhh!!" She gasped in shock, turning her head and covering her eyes. The sound of a parking car wafted to her ears and then slow deliberate footsteps followed. Slowly, she looked up as an umbrella covered her head.
"What are you doing here?" She gulped and he blinked, his eyes glassy as he licked his lower lips.
"I should be asking you that, Alexandra." He said, his voice filled with worry and pain. He never let it show. His pain. That was why it was so hard for her to understand him. He had always made it hard.
"You just came out of the hospital, so what are you doing out here in the rain?" He asked. She looked in his easy, blinking slowly as pain moved through her heart. She gulped, shaking her head to get over the impact of his eyes.
"I'm waiting for a cab. There's a problem with my car." She replied.
"Let me take you home." He proposed. Honestly, she didn't have the time nor the energy to argue, so she walked towards the car while he bent the umbrella to cover her, rain beating him instead.
When he got into the car, his shoulders were drenched, his white shirt clinging to his body, without the space for air.
"Do you think you can drive in Thai condition?" She looked away, staring at the window even if she couldn't see anything.
She was sure he couldn't really see either. The storm was really much. Liam turned the news on to lessen the thickness of the air between them. But the voices just cracked and he changed it to music instead.
A love song.
He turned it off.
"Have you listened to it before? It's actually wonderful." She didn't look at him as he said this.
He turned to look at her, "I guess we'll have to park. We can't keep on forging ahead in the storm." He said and turned the car into a parking lot.
There was an hotel there.
"Is anyone with the kids?" He asked.
"My mom." She said.
"You can spend the night here then." He said and she looked at the hotel in the bright lights.
"An hotel? Really?" She asked.
First thing, she was accepting his help, next thing, he was bringing her to an hotel. He got down from the car and walked into the hotel without even turning and she pursed her lips.
She had no choice.
Having made up her mind, Alexandra got off and walked into the hotel too just as Liam collected two cards.
"One is yours." He gave her one and led her to the elevator.
"If you need anything, you can come to my room. It's beside yours." He said gently.
"I'm certain I won't need anything." She replied.
"That's good then." He walked out of the elevator and got to his room quickly, while Alexa calmly took her steps. He stopped at his door and looked back at her.
"Goodnight, Alexandra." He said and walked in, locking the door behind him. Alexandra folded her hands again, as she narrowed her eyes at his door and scoffed.
He was so angry that he wasn't paying attention to her. Nice one.
She aggressively placed her card on the door tab and walked into her room, banging the door behind her. The thunder roared in response and she staggered backwards, almost hitting her back on the door.
"Fvck you too!!" She shouted in anger and hissed, walking fully into the room.
An hour later, the rain hadn't stopped falling and the thunder hadn't seized to stop. Alexandra had taken a hot bath and laid in her bed for that hour, but yet she couldn't sleep. Not with the lightning illuminating her room now and then or the thunder that made her jolt whenever she was already dozing off. Her pillow was fixed in her hands tightly as she hugged it and once the thunder came again. She made up her mind.
Liam opened the door when he heard he knock, only to see her dressed in her night wear and her pillow in her hands.
"I was wondering if you were sleeping." She asked, he was still fully dressed with no indication of sleeping anytime soon. What's worse, his brow were still joined together in anger, his jaw tightly clenched but when he looked at her, they relaxed a little bit.
"Not yet." He gave a short reply.
"I can't sleep. Don't tell me you can't too?"
"I can't sleep. Not when you are in the room opposite me." He tilted his head.
"If you are uncomfortable, you can put me in a farther room." She said about to leave.
"Can I bring you closer? Past those walls? " He asked slowly and she halted on her feet.
"The walls have been rebuilt. They can't easily fall like before." She said.
"But it's cracking. I know it." He said and she gulped, licking her lips.
"I have to get up early to work tomorrow and I can't sleep now." She muttered, "Can I sleep in your room tonight, like the old times."
"Tonight?" He asked.
"Just for tonight, till the rain stops." She said and his eyes flickered.
"That's a good start." He muttered.
