Chapter 84 - His Betrayal

Josie

I looked at both my parents standing there in front of me, at first I thought I was in trouble until I saw the smirk on my moms face but my dads face gave nothing away. “So what’s up? Is something wrong?” I was worried that they were ticked that at the last minute I went out with Joey. I was not prepared for what came out of my mom’s mouth next.

“Well, I honestly thought this day would never come. Your aunt and I had bets on how long it would take for you both to realize and finally act on those feelings.” She looked at me laughing. I had you both off in college clueless but your aunt had a little more hope than me, she said she figured you both would end up together by the end of the school year.” I couldn’t believe my mom and aunt and I didn’t know if it was worse that my aunt had higher hope than my own mother.

“Really mom you and Aunt Jessie are horrible, betting on me and Joey! What was the bet? What did she win?” My mom looked over at my dad and he just laughed, "your mom and I have to take your aunt and uncle out to dinner for losing. I will tell you this much honey, as much as I hate to think of you dating any guy, I will say Joey’s not half bad.” That at least made me feel better because I didn’t know if my dad would forbid me to date Joey or at least make it hard for me.

“Honey, we are happy for you and out of anyone you could date we are glad it is Joey, mainly because we know him and you both grew up together and started out as friends. That is a big part of relationships, being able to be friends also.” My parents both gave each other a look that I saw millions of times growing up and I knew that I wanted that connection too. I just shook my head, “If we’re done here I am going to head to bed. I have school in the morning.” They both wished me good night and I headed to my room for the night and walked towards the living room. I can’t believe they were both standing there like I was in trouble when I walked in the door, talk about nerve wrecking.

The next morning I got ready quickly because Joey said he was picking me up and I didn’t trust my dad to not bake things awkward for him when he got here. I grabbed my bag then ran down stairs to get a quick bite to eat before I left. My mom, dad and Eli were already sitting at the table finishing up their breakfast. “Hey there honey! I was wondering if you were going to eat before you left. There are some pancakes by the stove and I made some juice which is in the fridge.” I grabbed a banana and I filled a to-go cup with some juice since I wasn’t too hungry. “Thanks but I just need something small today, Joey is picking me up for school so I will see you all later tonight. If I end up being late for any reason I will let you know.” I ran out the door before they could really say anything.

Joey pulled up to the house and I hopped in his car and he looked over at me, “Good morning Josie. I was wondering if after school we could do something together, or do you have any responsibilities after school?”

“I am actually free after school today, I told my parents I would let them know if I would be late. What are we going to do, the only thing I ask is it is nothing sport related since you know I have no coordination.” He started laughing stating he will spare me from anything like that. When we got to the school, Joey and I walked in together holding hands and he walked me to my first class kissing me and telling me he would see me at lunch. My classes went by quickly, I knew with my grades that I didn’t even have to worry about finals which was a huge relief and it made all my hard work worth it. When it was time for lunch I walked to the cafeteria and set down my books and went to get some food. I grabbed myself a burger and fries and went to sit and wait for Joey to join me. As I was eating I felt someone kiss me on the top of my head and then Joey sat down next to me.

“Hello gorgeous, how has your day been so far?” I could feel the blush spread across my face at his compliment. I know this will take me time to get used to because I am not used to such compliments coming from him yet.

“My day has been going well so far. I am just ready for this school year to be done to enjoy our summer. It will be our last summer break before we start college, which by the way I forgot to ask, where did you decide to go to school?” I was curious since we were not talking much for a while and I didn’t know where he decided to go because I had heard from Lily there were a couple potential options he was considering.

“Actually I decided on the local university because I can’t fathom being far away from my family and I know they have a good architecture program. Where did you decide to go now that we are talking about college, I know you had a couple you used to talk about but did you get in?” I smiled at him because he was right and I had applied to those also at one time and got acceptance offers there too. “I did get acceptance letters from all the schools I applied to also but I decided to also go to the local university to get my teaching degree.” Joey smiled even wider hearing we would be going to the same school and neither of us planned this.

“I can’t believe you dumped me for this ugly weird girl, seriously Joey! I am much better looking than her and you and I were having fun until all of a sudden you just dumped me for this.” She motion up and down at me with a look of disgust.
