Chapter 51: This Is It
Chapter 51: This Is It
It was time to take a decision on one of the toughest decision Giselle ever had to take in her life “I will fly out with your father next week.”
Giselle nodded her head biting down on her lower lip. This was it, “Make sure you are being careful, mom. Especially after father’s release. Whoever this person is, they seem to know everything about our family and hey seem to have access to dad’s computer.”
“We will be extra careful, sweetheart, you don’t worry about us! Just make sure that you are taking care of yourself. Don't forget to take your medicines and your supplements, and Tanner” Annalise turned her attention to Tanner, looking at him made her regret that she got her daughter married to a man that was incapable of love.
“Yes, Mrs. Smith?” Tanner was carrying one of Giselle’s bags to his car.
“Make sure that my daughter eats well on time and her hemoglobin levels need to be checked every ten days till they increase to normal levels. You promise that you will call me every day. You got that?”
“Mom, it is not like we are going to be separated for a long time! You will be flying out with dad as soon as he is out. Uncle tom mentioned that he can get father out with all the charges being dropped! I just wish I could be here to welcome father home” Giselle sighed sadly.
She knew that she could not waste any more time. It was clear in the message that she received that she is supposed to leave by TONIGHT and there was no bargaining with that! “Your father is going to be proud of you, my baby, never doubt that! He loves you a lot and he wouldn’t want you here when your life could be in danger.”
The first thing Annalise asked Giselle to do as soon as she landed was to look for a good gynecologist, so Giselle googled and went to visit the doctor. The doctor took the instrument to examine her, she noticed that Giselle had come alone, so she could not help but smile, and asked her “Is the child’s father not in the picture?”
Giselle’s smile remained unchanged, and she looked at her abdomen, which was already somewhat bulging, and said quietly, “He is... he travels a lot for his business, so it is not always possible for him to accompany me.”
Doctor looked at Giselle with pity “I don’t get why some men take pregnancy so lightly, it is a beautiful experience that one needs to be there for to fully enjoy!”
The doctor moved the wand around but stopped for a long time at one spot leaning closer to the screen, this got Giselle worried “Doctor, is something wrong?”
A sudden smile lit up on doctor’s lips “Congratulations, you are having twins.”
“…” Silence, Giselle was too stunned to even respond. Her last doctor did not mention any such information, so how did she suddenly have twins in her stomach? Giselle finally found her voice after a long time “Doctor, what are you saying? Are you sure? Twins? But... how?”
The doctor gave her a smile, this was the reaction that most of her patients have every time she told them that they were having twins “How can it be wrong when it is the image coming up on the scan? You don’t believe me? Have a look yourself!”
Giselle had a happy smile on her face and stared at the image on the screen, she could see two little dots. The doctor then increased the volume of the heartbeat. Giselle could distinctly hear two heartbeats, the sound was the most beautiful and enticing sound she ever heard “Oh God!”
Giselle could not believe it, a big smile appeared on her lips, and she was wrapped in happiness that had no bounds. She wanted to share it with the baby's father, but that was not an option for her. She craved to be held in his strong arms and be held by him, but alas, that was her wishful thinking “Your tests concern me gravely.’
The doctor closed the file that Giselle had brought along with her “i hope you are taking all the medicines that were prescribed to you by your doctor earlier. You need to keep in mind that you don’t just have one life but two lives inside you and they need to be cared for!”
‘Two children?’ Giselle had a lot to worry about. She was in a new place with a new identity and a new life with no one to support her even though Tanner was with her, he was not the person she needed.
Giselle rubbed her hand over her stomach, the smile on her lips showed the happiness that was filled in her heart “There are two of you inside huh? You have to pay attention to your health in the future.”
After listening to the doctor’s instructions, Giselle finally thought of something she said seriously, “Doctor, can I trouble you with something?”
“Sure Miss Miller, what is it?” The female doctor was very kind.
“Do you keep the information of each patient confidential?” This was the very same question that Giselle had asked her doctor back in New York as she was afraid that Colton would find out about her.
"You don’t have to specifically ask for that, Miss Miller. The clause ‘Doctor patient confidentiality applies to all the doctors and our hospital is no exception to that.” The doctor closed the file and handed it over to Giselle “I need you to come in for a checkup in ten days and I need to see an improvement in your hemoglobin!”
Giselle chuckled, “Well, that’s good, however if someone comes to investigate me and the child in my stomach, I hope you can keep a secret for me. I don’t want to cause unnecessary trouble.”
Colton is such a shrewd person that she is not sure he would not find out her whereabouts and what if Colton gets a wind of her, he will surely send someone to investigate or he may even come there himself, but that would mean that she is grave danger from the very man.
Moreover, because of this, she had not gone to a public hospital, and had made an appointment with a private institution at a high price. Doctors in private hospitals were known to provide exceptional services, so the money that she spent would not be in vain.
The female doctor immediately thought that she must be a celebrity, and nodded quickly, “This is no problem. Our institution will absolutely guarantee the privacy of our patients.”
Giselle grinned and gave her a nod of her head. After leaving the hospital, the smile on Giselle’s face did not disappear, and she felt very good at a glance ‘Twins? How can I be in a bad mood?’ It was a miracle that they survived through Giselle’s carelessness.
“I am sorry that I did not take care of myself before, my babies, I promise to never take you both for granted and make sure that I will take care of myself and not neglect my health” Giselle rubbed her hand over her belly as she promised herself to be more careful.
