Chapter 98 SILENT FRACTURE
Godiva POV
Just as I was discussing with Mama, my phone rang, and I had to rush upstairs to get the call.
“Why is Jerald even calling?” I muttered to myself irritably, staring at the phone on the bed until the call went off.
I was about leaving the room when his call came in again. Ignoring it, I stared at the phone until it stopped ringing. This happened five more times. On the sixth attempt, I got pissed and picked the call.
“Don’t you know when to stop trying, huh?” I thundered at Jerald from the other side of the call.
“I’m really sorry Zhin, how do I make it up to you?” Jerald pleaded softly over the phone.
“Thank you for that beautiful question,” I fired back agitatedly. “You can make it up to me by pretending I don’t exist, avoid me completely, don’t try getting gifts or doing any so-called boyfriend duties, and most importantly, do not think of coming to my house or telling anything to my Mama, even for a second,” I warned sternly before hanging up without hearing whatever he had to say.
“Can you imagine the nerves he had to call me even after the trash he did, ridiculing me before the whole school?” I ranted angrily to Dina, folding my arms as I stood by her door.
“Girl, sincerely, it was Lis who ridiculed you, and this reaction and distance between you two is exactly what Lis wants. Don’t give her what she wants please,” Dina reasoned in a soft tone.
“Congratulations to her then, she’s gotten what she wanted,” I snapped bitterly, still standing by the door with my arms folded.
“Div, what exactly is getting you pissed about the whole situation?” Dina asked carefully, obviously trying to defend Jerald. “I know a part of you is excited it wasn’t Hakeem you kissed, so why?”
“I don’t know for you, but I don’t appreciate the fact that a guy I wasn’t dating kissed me in a drunken state. A guy who kissed almost every girl at the trip and kissed me too, makes me feel like one of his lab rats,” I responded coldly.
“Girl, what if you were the one who initiated the kiss since you were drunk?” Dina continued cautiously in Jerald’s defense.
“A normal and not-so-promiscuous man would have simply rejected the kiss seeing my drunken state.” I barked furiously, already worked up. “Plus, he even lied about it and was celebrating the kiss we had after we started dating as our first kiss, that’s cowardice,” I continued angrily. “Did I forget to mention? At the principal’s office, I learnt he asked Hakeem to take the picture.”
“What? He was the one who asked?” Dina gasped in disbelief before pausing briefly. “Or what if they just lied about that part?” she added thoughtfully.
“Well, you have a fair point there. He wouldn’t have kissed back if he had the purest of intentions, and he should have come clean when you started seeing him,” she concluded logically.
“Now you get my point!” I exclaimed, throwing myself on the bed beside her.
Laughing softly, Dina patted my back gently.
“Damn me, I almost forgot why I came,” I groaned suddenly, putting my hands on my forehead.
“What is it?” Dina asked, looking confused.
“The ice-cream is probably melting now,” I cried regretfully, pulling Dina up with me.
“What ice-cream are you talking about?” Dina frowned in confusion as she followed me downstairs.
“Tada!” I exclaimed dramatically, pointing at the desserts on the table.
“Wow, did a feast happen in your house or something?” Dina laughed, pulling a chair for herself.
“Well, something like that,” I replied uncertainly.
“So, what are we celebrating?” Dina pressed again, scooping ice-cream into a bowl.
“Not really a celebration, just eat up first,” I dodged with a sarcastic smile.
“And why aren’t you joining me?” Dina narrowed her eyes suspiciously at me.
“I’ve already had enough from home,” I replied quickly. “Well, let me take a little,” I added, reaching for another bowl.
My heart kept pounding the moment Dina’s ice-cream was almost finished. I kept thinking of the best way to tell her about my travel to All Saints for the spring break in a way she wouldn’t feel bad about it.
“Mama wants me away from here for the spring break,” I announced quickly, squeezing my eyes shut.
“What did you say?” Dina asked slowly, dropping her glazed doughnut onto the plate.
“I said my godmother at All Saints wants me over for the spring break,” I repeated, this time more slowly.
“All Saints? Isn’t that where your Dad and Mum stuff happened?” Dina asked keenly.
“By my Dad, you mean Mr Blank? Yes, that was where it happened.” I responded somberly. “I equally protested because I really don’t want a situation where I find someone I don’t need in my life.”
“Wow, so what do you expect me to do the whole three weeks you’re away?” Dina grumbled, shoving the desserts aside.
“It’s actually two weeks. Mama said you could join in the last week,” I replied with a smile, watching Dina force out a not-so-genuine smile.
“But two weeks is a bit long considering we’ve never been apart from each other for that long,” Dina muttered sadly.
“Yeah, I know, I’m equally sad, but if you don’t want me going, I can always tell Mama no. After all, I’m a big girl,” I teased lightly with a gentle smile.
“Get lost bro,” Dina burst out laughing. “But on the brighter side, you can be there without having to worry about Jerald barging into the house,” she continued with a grin.
“Exactly the only reason I need to leave here,” I replied with a fake smile.
“Why is your phone on silent?” Dina asked, pointing at my phone which was vibrating again.
“I put it on silence because of Jerald’s calls,” I explained, picking my phone up to check the caller ID. “Speak about the devil,” I muttered before accepting the call.
“Jerald, I thought we understood ourselves and agreed to you avoiding me?” I thundered aggressively into the phone.
“I can’t live knowing you are mad at me, please let me explain to you,” Jerald begged desperately over the call.
“No, and as I drop this call, I’m blocking your number until I’m ready to speak with you.” I inhaled deeply before adding firmly, “And again, do not come to the house.”
Dropping the call, I immediately blacklisted his number.
