Chapter 128 CHILLING DISCOVERY

Chapter 128 CHILLING DISCOVERY
Godiva POV

“I don’t understand. How did we know he was my brother? Nothing here is even clear. We are just making assumptions from seeing this,” I vented in confusion.

“I’m confused. What are you two doing?” Alex asked, peering out the window.

“Why... why is he going back?” Dina wondered curiously, looking outside the window as Hakeem walked away.

“The real question is why Hakeem is here and how he is related to Hilda,” I frowned at Dina.

“She’s coming,” I hissed in a panic, leaving the window side in a hurry with Dina and a clueless Alex following behind.

We quickly left the exit window and returned to where we had been seated before we left.

It hadn't been long after we took our seats when Hilda walked in with a basket, smiling and waving at us as she approached.

“Hey pretty,” I beamed, hugging her tightly.

“Hey pretties,” she mimicked, wrapping me and then Dina in a hug.

“What are you holding in there?” I asked curiously, pointing at the basket in her hand.

“It’s muffins and parfait. We were supposed to bring something to the party,” Hilda explained, looking around us as though searching for what we brought.

“What!” Dina and I exclaimed simultaneously as Alex burst out laughing.

“What’s funny, guy?” Dina challenged, trying hard not to laugh herself.

“You didn’t know about it?” Hilda asked in surprise.

“Oh no, we didn’t,” I admitted, nudging Dina to get up so we could hurriedly get some snacks from the café.

Dina was about to get up when Godmother entered the properly arranged classroom carrying two foil trays.

Dina and I excitedly rushed to help her with the load as she stood searching for us among the crowd.

“Mother!” I squealed excitedly, almost throwing myself on her.

“I almost thought you wouldn’t come,” I confessed, struggling for the foil tray with Dina.

“I wouldn’t miss this for anything,” Godmother assured us as she walked toward the seat designated for our guardians.

“Hell, Aunt!” Alex exclaimed, pulling her into a hug.

“Hello baby,” she chuckled, pinching his cheek before taking her seat.

“Godmother, did you know it was customary to bring something, or did you just buy this in case?” Dina asked curiously, smiling from ear to ear.

“I knew we needed to bring something, which is why I sent you kids ahead so I could prepare this with the cook,” Godmother revealed confidently.

“What!” Alex, Dina, and I chorused in disbelief.

“So Aunt, you prepared this and didn’t buy it?” Alex gawked, staring at the foil tray containing the meat.

“Yep, I did. I knew if I told you girls I was preparing something, you would have stayed back to help, and I didn’t want to stand in your way,” Godmother explained.

“But how is it possible that you did all this within the span of one hour?” Alex questioned skeptically.

“I prepared the chicken partly when you all went out yesterday. As for the burgers, the cook shopped this morning and all we did was assemble them,” Godmother explained with a giggle.

“I see you were surprised,” Hilda's voice drifted from behind as she approached us.

“Oh yes,” I admitted, smiling uncontrollably.

But Hilda’s presence and our newfound speculation made me uneasy.

“Good day, Ma. I’m Hilda Mike, nice meeting you,” Hilda greeted respectfully.

“The daughter of Mike?” Godmother asked, looking slightly displeased.

Dina and I immediately locked eyes.

“Yes, Ma,” Hilda answered with a cute smile that quickly rubbed off on Godmother, who returned it.

“Girls, Coach is here,” Hilda announced in a panic, hurrying back to her seat with Dina and me following closely behind.

“Good morning, parents and guardians,” Coach greeted over the microphone the moment she stepped in.

“Morning,” everyone chorused from different corners of the room.

“I’m sorry for coming late. I was delayed laminating their certificates,” Coach continued, breathing hard.

“Girl, I don’t see anybody from your family,” I whispered into Hilda’s ear as Coach addressed the crowd.

“This is not really my family kind of thing. My brother actually dropped me off and went back. Dad will come pick me up,” Hilda explained with a smile.

Dina and I immediately locked eyes.

We knew there was no point pushing further and asking her brother’s name when we already knew who he was.

Now that I was sure Hakeem was her brother, I silently hoped Mr. Mike wasn’t my father.

The rest of the closing party, or should I say graduation, was boring at the beginning and fun toward the end when we finally began eating and actually partying.

We were given lots of boring speeches, presented our work as well as our certificates, and surprisingly, Coach gifted us knitted bags with our initials on them.

Throughout the feasting, Dina, Alex, Hilda, and I stayed in one corner playing games and snacking while others danced, with the aged sitting together discussing the country’s economy.

“It’s getting boring in here. I need to head home,” Godmother announced, attempting to leave.

“How boring, or is it because your folks have all dispersed and you’re leaving?” Dina teased.

“No girl, it’s actually late,” Godmother defended herself with a smile.

“Late? It’s just 6:30,” Alex argued, laughing.

“You naughty kids,” Godmother sighed. “Take care, Hilda,” she added, waving at her as she walked away.

No sooner had Godmother left than Mr. Mike walked elegantly into the school.

That was my first time seeing him standing, and he was so tall.

“Dad!” Hilda squealed, running up to Mr. Mike while proudly raising the sweatshirt she had made.

I could see his face light up with a smile the second he saw her project.

“I now know why you’re so tall and lean,” Dina whispered into my ear, laughing.

As I attempted to slap her, she swiftly dodged.

“How are you girls doing? How was your party?” Mr. Mike asked with a broad smile.

“It went well, sir,” I answered, waving at Hilda.

“Can I have your contacts so I’ll see you before you leave?” Hilda pleaded, squeezing us into a warm embrace.

“Don’t worry, girl. We’ll see you before we leave,” Dina assured her, politely pushing her phone back.

“You sure?” Hilda asked doubtfully.

“Oh yes,” I nodded with a smile, waving as they walked toward the exit.

The moment they left, Dina finally spoke.

“Your dad really did well giving you all of his height,” Dina teased before running off as I chased after her.

Dina, Alex, and I strolled home, counting our steps and conversing.

Alex didn’t give up asking if Mr. Mike was my father. Eventually, Dina and I had to let him in on our suspicions and everything surrounding them.

“Div,” Dina called out in her usual mischievous manner as we walked home.

“Now I’m scared,” I groaned, looking at her expectantly.

“When last did you speak to Jerald?” Dina asked softly.

“Huh? How did we divert to Jerald?” I frowned, looking completely lost.

“Well, I spoke to him after my birthday party,” I recalled nonchalantly.

“How about we involve Jerald in this investigation?” Dina finally dropped the bombshell.
