Chapter 8 Surgery Denied
Olivia's nerves tightened again. She gripped the bedsheet, her face calm as she countered, "Do you really want me to be pregnant?"
"I..." Luca was caught off guard by the question, his brows furrowing.
His hesitation stung Olivia, and her emotions flared up instantly. "Don't bother explaining, Luca. You're too suspicious. Or what, do I have to be sick for you to be satisfied?!"
Olivia's heart raced.
No, she couldn't stay here any longer. Luca was still doubting her, and knowing his personality, he might drag her to get tested!
Without hesitation, Olivia threw off the blanket. "I'm going home! I can't sleep here."
"I told you, you're staying for observation for 24 hours before you can leave!" Luca didn't move aside. Instead, he leaned over, his arms braced on either side of her.
He was so close now, Olivia could feel his warm breath and the intensity of his presence crowding her senses. "Olivia, you can throw a fit if you want, but don't push it. Your health..."
Olivia couldn't listen anymore. She leaned back to put distance between them. "Luca, what more do you want? I've done everything you asked—divorce, quitting my job. Now I want to leave the hospital, and you won't let me? What's the point of clinging to me? My health is none of your business, and I don't need your concern!"
Olivia knew him well. Luca was like a lion king, full of fierce pride. But she had to provoke him, shift his focus, and stop him from suspecting whether she was pregnant.
Sure enough, Luca's face darkened, anger swirling in his eyes.
He rarely showed concern for her, even put up with her friend's scolding and nonsense, yet she was being so unreasonable and harsh!
"Fine, do whatever you want." Luca stepped back, clenching his fists to hold back his anger. His voice turned cold as he warned, "Since you insist, I'll leave. But I'm warning you, Olivia, if something's really wrong with your body and it affects next month's family gathering, you'll deal with the consequences yourself!"
Luca didn't leave right away. He was waiting for Olivia to back down.
But Olivia just scoffed, stubbornly turning her head away, showing no sign of giving in.
Luca grew even angrier, yet he couldn't hold back from trying to explain. Because now, not just Olivia, even Emma misunderstood his relationship with Windy. "And about Windy… It's not what you think between us."
Olivia froze for a moment, looking up in confusion.
Luca thought back to the drowning incident, still feeling breathless from the memory. "I'm good to Windy because on my 12th birthday, I accidentally fell into the water, and she saved me."
Olivia frowned.
Luca was the family's prized young master, and his birthday parties were always lavish and grand.
When he turned 12, Olivia's mother was still alive, and she had attended the birthday party hosted by the Vettel family with her.
It was held at a lakeside estate, with a large lake at its center. If someone wasn't careful, they could easily fall in.
But she had no memory of Luca falling into the water or Windy saving him.
Windy couldn't swim, and as the star of the birthday party, if Luca had fallen in, there should've been some rumors or gossip. Yet she'd never heard a thing.
The only thing she remembered was a girl accidentally spilling juice, staining her and Windy's dresses. So, her mother took them both home early from the party.
No matter how she thought about it, Windy couldn't have had that kind of connection with Luca.
But after thinking it over, Olivia suddenly realized. If it didn't really happen, then it could only be an excuse Luca made up.
"She saved you, so you're going to marry her out of gratitude, wrap yourself up as a gift for her?" Olivia smirked mockingly. "How touching."
Luca's face darkened further.
"Luca, you don't need to explain anything to me. Whatever's between you two has nothing to do with me. Please move."
"You..." Olivia didn't believe him at all, didn't even listen to his explanation. Luca felt even more frustrated. Beyond frustration, there was also a strange, unclear sense of disappointment.
What was wrong with him? Whether Olivia believed him or not shouldn't matter this much!
Luca huffed in irritation. "Fine, do what you want! Just don't cause a scene at the family gathering by fainting or making some big drama. You think I want to deal with you?"
He stormed off angrily, taking the two bodyguards with him.
The room fell silent, and Olivia let out a breath of relief.
Sitting on the bed, she felt cold all over.
She didn't want to face Luca. Now that the risk of him finding out about the pregnancy was gone, staying in the hospital was actually the better choice.
Olivia took off her shoes, climbed back into bed, and curled up, hugging herself tightly.
She didn't sleep all night, thinking about the surgery tomorrow. Her hand instinctively covered her lower abdomen as cold tears slid down from the corner of her eyes.
Olivia whispered, "I'm sorry, baby. You've come at a bad time. If your dad loved me, or if I hadn't thought about divorce, you might've been born. But now, your existence is keeping him from being with someone else. I'm so sorry, really sorry…"
She slowly closed her eyes.
The next day, the sunlight stung Olivia's eyes.
She sat up and immediately checked her phone. It was almost eight o'clock.
The scheduled surgery was at ten.
Olivia quickly went to the gynecology department.
Sitting on the bench, her palms were sweaty, and a faint pain throbbed in her lower abdomen.
"Olivia Vettel," a nurse called out her name.
Olivia took a deep breath, stood up, and walked into the consultation room. The doctor at the desk looked through her file and looked troubled. "Ma'am, based on the initial assessment of your condition, you're not suitable for a standard abortion procedure right now."
Olivia's heart sank, and she asked in shock, "What do you mean? Why not?"
"The system shows there's a specific issue with your uterus. Forcing the surgery carries a high risk of heavy bleeding," the doctor bit her lip. "Our department's doctors can't perform this surgery."
Olivia froze completely.
If she couldn't have the surgery, did that mean she had to give birth?
No!
Luca would never allow something like that to happen!
Olivia pressed on, "So how can I get the surgery? Can my uterine issue be treated?"
"You'll need to consult a gynecology specialist to discuss treatment options. We have a few excellent doctors, but you'll need to book an appointment in advance, which usually takes a few weeks…"
Olivia's mind went blank.
If she couldn't get rid of this baby, it would cause unimaginable trouble.
She also didn't want to give birth to Luca's child, letting the baby have a cold, heartless father who wouldn't even acknowledge them.
"Is there any other option?"
The doctor tapped on the keyboard. "Let me check… A patient just canceled her appointment for this morning. Are you available right now?"
Olivia nodded immediately. She had to get the abortion and the divorce, then stay far away from Luca and Windy forever!
"Alright," the doctor said. "I've booked you in. Just head to the consultation room on the third floor." She handed over the appointment slip.
Olivia, feeling dazed, turned and headed to the third-floor room as instructed.
