Chapter 74 A Shadow at her Back
Chapter 74 A Shadow at her Back
Bianca
I should feel joy.
Six months pregnant. A baby on the way. It should be a fresh chapter. A new life, and I should have Adrian, but somehow that has all gone to shit.
And all I feel is rage.
Because I know it now—Adrian isn’t coming back.
He hardly called, barely showed up, and couldn't even pretend to care since I told him I was pregnant. And he thought the baby was his . After that recording of me at the restaurant and he discovered those baby wasn't his , he became ruthless . He sent his lawyer after me instead.
I’m losing control.
So I show up to my OB appointment looking calm, composed, expensive. Designer bag. Flawless makeup. Like I’m still the woman they can’t forget.
The nurse chats as she takes my vitals. The baby’s heartbeat is strong—loud and rhythmic on the monitor. The technician smiles. “Everything’s looking great. You’re measuring perfectly for 26 weeks.”
I nod politely, but my mind is elsewhere.
When I step into the hallway afterward, I freeze.
Because I hear him.
Adrian’s voice.
And then—hers.
Selene.
I peek around the corner just enough to see them sitting in the waiting area. Selene is glowing—hand resting gently on her belly, cheeks flushed, laughing at something Adrian says. He leans over and kisses her stomach, murmuring something I can’t make out.
She’s pregnant with his child, that slut , she is the reason why Adrian didnt want me.
I press a hand to my belly, suddenly sick.
She’s already stolen his love. Now she’s taken my future I had planned with him too.
They stand together, walking toward the elevator—Selene pausing mid-step, whispering that she needs to pee before they head in . Adrian smiles, tucks her hair behind her ear, and kisses her cheek before letting her go.
She walks alone toward the back hallway.
I follow slowly and quietly.
My steps are quiet. Precise. Fueled by something darker than logic—hot and pulsing, alive in my veins.
Selene disappears into the restroom, and I hover around the corner, heart hammering, breath shallow.
What am I doing?
I don’t plan it. It’s instinct. It’s fear. It’s fury. It’s the primal scream in my chest telling me this woman has taken everything I wanted.
Then the door creaks open.
She steps out slowly, her heels clicking softly on the tile.
She doesn’t see me. She doesn’t even glance my way.
And that’s when I move.
I lunge forward and shove her—hard.
She gasps, more in surprise than fear, and her hands fly to her belly instinctively as her body teeters. She tries to grab the railing, but her balance is already gone.
She disappears down the stairs with a sickening thud. Then another. And another.
Her scream echoes off the concrete. Then silence.
I back away slowly, breath shaking. I don’t look back.
She never saw my face.
And she never will. I walk out quickly without looking back and grab a cab and head back to the hotel. I get to the hotel and immediately start packing . I thinks it’s time for me to leave Denver.
After everything I’ve done it might be wise to leave and I’m not sure if California is the right place either. Maybe Europe ? I have friends in France who I can go to for a while .
I pick up my phone and call for an Uber to take me to the airport and then make my way down to the lobby to checkout . Once I’m done , I jump into my Uber and start searching for flights to France .
I get to the airport and go m a bundle of nerves , I keep looking around and my breath hitches when the see some police men walking by . I quickly rush into the airport and to the check in counters and check in .
Two hours later I’m reclining triumphantly in my business class seat as I make my way to France. I’ll call my dad and tell him I’m in Europe and need more money since I don’t have that many clothes . I smirk when I think of how I’ve gotten away with what I’ve done .
