Chapter 388 Can't Hide

Isabella had planned to keep the whole Kenna situation from Michael.

But as soon as she walked through the door, she saw Michael sitting on the couch with a grim expression, his eyes like deep pools fixed on her, making her heart race with fear.

Isabella knew something was wrong. She lowered her voice and asked Penelope, "Did you tell him?"

Penelope shook her head vigorously. "It wasn't me."

Isabella sighed and looked at the bodyguards who had followed her. Even though she had instructed them not to tell Michael, they were his people and wouldn't dare hide anything from him.

The bodyguards looked at her blankly and shook their heads slightly, indicating they had no idea why Michael was angry.

To calm him down, Isabella walked over to Michael in front of Penelope and the bodyguards, sat next to him, and pleaded, "Honey, don't be mad. Look, I'm perfectly fine, aren't I?"

She blinked her big, watery eyes at him, trying to appear sincere.

"To avoid any more trouble, you should stop seeing Kenna." Michael suggested.

Isabella felt indignant and defended Kenna, "Did the bodyguards tell you that Kenna took all that cat urine on herself to protect me? She didn't know if it was cat urine or acid at the time. She practically saved me."

"It wasn't the bodyguards who told me. I saw it on the news." Michael said, pulling out his phone to show her the Silvercrest City news.

Isabella was shocked to see the incident had made the news.

The headline read, #Kenna from the Jackson Group Stoops to Being a Mistress, Drives Wife Mad, Gets Doused with Cat Urine."

"This is outrageous! Who posted this online?"

"I've already asked Aaron to investigate. Kenna must have offended someone. So, you should stay away from her for now, to avoid getting dragged into this." Michael advised earnestly.

Isabella insisted, "As her friend, I have to help her. I can't let her be bullied."

Michael reluctantly agreed, "Fine, I'll help her. But you need to keep your distance."

"Alright, but you have to promise to help her." Isabella urged.

Michael was speechless. He should have been the one closer to Kenna, given their relationship. Any other partner would be jealous of how much he was helping her. But Isabella wasn't jealous at all; she was just worried he wouldn't help.

"I feel like I smell like cat urine. It's making me nauseous. I'm going to take a shower." Isabella said, quickly hanging up her phone when it rang.

Michael nodded.

Watching her rush upstairs, he frowned. Who had called her? Why did she hang up so quickly?

...

Once upstairs, Isabella hurried to her room, closed the door, and called Leroy back.

"Sorry, Michael was with me just now, so I couldn't answer. It's okay now. What did you want to tell me?"

Leroy said, "There's news about my stepmother."

"What is it?" Isabella asked anxiously.

"She didn't react to the photos at all, like she didn't recognize them." Leroy replied.

Isabella was surprised. "She really has amnesia?"

Either she wasn't Rowan, or she had amnesia. Otherwise, she would have reacted.

Leroy said, "I don't know much. I only know her name is Rowan, her parents died early, and she has a brother. That's all I got."

"Michael's mom was an orphan who grew up in the Johnson Group's orphanage. She couldn't have a brother. Do you have his contact info? I want to ask him about it." Isabella said.

"No, after she married my dad, she had little contact with our family, let alone her brother. I'm sorry, I can't help you with this."

"It's okay. I know you've done your best. Thanks for telling me." Isabella said gratefully.

Leroy hesitated for a moment and said, "Actually, I hope you can keep this to yourself and not let Michael know. Whether she's his mom or not, it won't be good for him."

"Do you think your dad is..."

"I don't know anything. I just know my dad loves her and won't let anyone take her away. If anyone tries, he'll fight to the death to protect her. You can't compete with my dad."

"Okay, I understand. I'll consider your advice." Isabella replied.

"Isabella, I know you're not Uncle Lonnie's daughter." Leroy said after a pause. "I chose to keep helping you for Calista. She doesn't know you're not her sister, and I don't plan to tell her. So, I hope you'll keep it a secret too. And if you have time, come visit her in Silvermist City. That's my condition for helping you."

"Thank you, Leroy. Since you're helping me, I'll help you too." Isabella promised.

After hanging up, she stared at her phone for a while.

Leroy's stepmother didn't react to the photos; maybe she really had amnesia.

She needed to find a way to visit Silvermist City and see her in person to confirm.

If she really had amnesia, Isabella didn't know how to tell Michael.

Marrying her enemy while having amnesia—how painful would it be if she regained her memory? How heartbroken would Michael be if he knew?

After ending the call with Leroy, Isabella thought for a moment in her room before going downstairs to find Michael.

She suggested, "Michael, I want to visit him in the hospital."

"Him" refers to Vincent. In front of Michael, she didn't know whether to call Vincent "Dad" or "Mr. Johnson," so she just used "him."

Michael frowned and asked, "Why do you suddenly want to visit him? Hospitals are full of germs. You're pregnant; it's best not to go."

"His room will be clean. I trust Terry. I know you don't like him, but as a basic courtesy, I'd feel guilty if I didn't go. Michael, for the baby's sake, let me go. You want to set a good example for the baby, right?"

She patted her belly, using the baby as an excuse.

Sure enough, Michael couldn't refuse this reason.

"Fine, we'll find a time, and I'll go with you."

"No need." Isabella quickly declined. "You're so busy. Visiting the hospital is a small thing. I'll go alone. I'll take Penelope and the bodyguards. Nothing will happen at Terry's hospital. And you need to help Kenna, find out who's behind this."

Isabella didn't want Michael to come along.

With him not there, she could ask Vincent some questions.
