Chapter 60 - Secret Weapon
~~~ Allaya ~~~
My heart is starting to beat erratically, as if the poor organ just now registered the gravity of this situation. Though I was brave and felt in control until moments ago, right now I am on the brink of a meltdown.
Hayden caught up with the change inside me, he wrapped me in a tight hug. I snuggled in his embrace, taking in his scent like a drowning person in search for oxygen.
“I would never let something happen to you or any member of your family. In fact, I will protect everybody!” He declares, his voice laced with determination.
I take a deep breath. “Neither do I! Let’s go!” I add, confidence running again in my veins.
My entire body becomes alert of Morrigan’s shady vibe the moment we enter the ceremony room, he is ogling me from head to toe with an ardent glint in his eyes. I have to admit, this man gives me the creeps.
I scan the surroundings, I don’t spot Elena anywhere. Weird, as she enjoys so much seeing me in pain, I thought she won’t miss this golden opportunity.
“Allaya!” I hear my mother’s voice in a corner, she gazes towards me with affection.
“Mom, are you okay? Did he do something to you?” I scan her figure, though some dark circles have grown under her eyes, her body seems untouched. I cannot say the same of her mind and soul though.
“No, honey, I’m fine. Don’t worry!” She assures caressing my hair, my eyes feel suddenly moist.
Then she breaks up in tears. “Oh, Allaya… Elena, your sister, did the unthinkable! She betrayed me, she betrayed us! She killed her own unborn child and her lover, only to get strong and challenge you! Without my knowledge, I raised a monster!” She sobs, looking apologetic.
“It’s not your fault, mom! She made her own choices!” I wipe away the tears from her kind, beautiful face.
“I… I should have seen her real face. I should have known better!”
“No, mom! You couldn’t have! She is smart, she tricked us all! I love you, mom! Thank you for everything, I don’t know where I’ll be without you and dad!” I embrace her and my adoptive father, Xander.
My poor father, he looked like a weight has lifted out of his shoulder when he registered that his loved wife was unharmed. I understand him, I’d react the same if I were in his shoes.
“I love you too, sweet baby!” She stares at me as if I’m her pride and joy.
“You know you are the light of my eyes, Allaya!” My father adds.
But our mood is soon ruined by the devil himself. “Oh my, what a touching scene!” He claps his hands. “Too bad that it will not last long.”
Rage starts stirring inside me, reaching boiling point in a matter of seconds, but I need to calm down to make my plan work.
“Is that so?” I challenge, taking a brief glimpse at Alita, giving her the signal.
Morrigan’s witch is my secret weapon. She is on my side, she always was, though in order to gain the devil’s approval, she had to do despicable things.
She was raised by my mother and mentored by my aunt Faith, the only reason she stood by Morrigan’s side sacrificing herself until now was to be able to help me at this specific point in time.
This is something that nobody knew, not even my adoptive father, he had no knowledge of it until today. Yet my mother’s memories revealed everything to me.
She chose the ceremony room as it was suppressing the magic side of the supernatural creatures such as my mate, my brother and so on.
We already lifted that shield. Obviously, the crooked demon has no clue.
Now there is one more thing to do.
“The trial was not concluded. The law is clear, no mating outside the species is allowed. I represent the Head of the Council and you will receive your punishment!” Morrigan reiterates that freaking made up rule. “Unless, of course, you give yourself to me, as you agreed. Then I’ll let the rest live.” He utters, touching his chest. “Out of the goodness of my heart.”
“Do you mean the rule you invented to kill my sister, the woman you supposedly loved, and her unborn child? The same law you masterminded because you were afraid that the child, Allaya, will bring destruction upon you?” Gabriel snaps at his throat, his tone vibrating with wrath. “Admit it, admit it again to my face that you killed my sister for nothing, that you used your deceiving card to fool every magical creature, that you purposely made who knows how many people to suppress their mating bond!”
Morrigan frees himself from Gabriel’s hold in a second and clashes my uncle to the ground. It really felt like thunder and an earthquake all together, the villain is indeed powerful, but we work as a team.
“You’re no match for me.” He spats, his lips forming in the crooked grin that fits him so well. “Yes, I’ve imprinted the false concept in anybody’s mind, so what? Regardless of how this law originated, it’s valid and it must be abided.”
And this is exactly what I needed, for him to confess that the rule never existed, that he enforced it out of greed, as all this time I was channeling my inner power to create a portal for everyone that is standing outside waiting for my cue to hear this conversation from his own mouth.
Every supernatural creature that both my fathers brought from the far away corners of the world, every vampire and werewolf that partake into this fight.
Now, everyone knows he is a fraud.
“You are merciless and selfish, you destroyed my family and countless others for your own sake!” My real father cuts in, before shifting into a wolf, to Morrigan’s horror, he did not see it coming.
~~~ Hayden ~~~
It’s been minutes since I’ve heard Allaya’s voice in my head and felt my wolf raging inside. My mate managed to break the shield that provided a great advantage for the Head of the Council. She had a plan and she shared it with all of us via mind link.
It was Alita’s brilliant idea to lure him in the ceremony room, make him feel safe and spill everything out for everyone outside to hear. Allaya was in charge of making the latter happen.
“You are missing something.” Allaya said while watching her father shifting into his wolf and circling the malicious vampire who was in shock. “I am a hybrid that possesses magical powers, I can choose a mate from any kind. So even if that rule was real, it would not have affected me! I wanted to clear my mother’s name and to help all the others that were abused by your damn made up law!” She declared, her entire being oozing with power and authority.
She is so fucking perfect, I might be the luckiest man alive to have been blessed with such a wonderful mate. I’ll spend my life worshiping her the way she deserves.
“Others? What others?” His voice almost breaking, his eyes widened conflicted.
“Attack!” I growl loudly, my heart racing in my chest at an unprecedented speed.
The warriors outside burst into the room, we brought many, from wizards and witches, to fairies, vampires and werewolves.
The vampires on Morrigan’s side attacked too, my packs shifted and in a flash the bloodbath started.
“STOP!!!!” Allaya shouted until there was no movement left, the room vibrating under her command. “You all heard him earlier, didn’t you?” Everyone nodded in approval. “So why fight with each other? For what? Don’t you all have families that would suffer if you die or even if you get injured? Aren’t you tired of being used by this monster?”
“But he is the Head of the Council, the leader.” One of the vampires responded after some seconds of silence.
“Not anymore. It’s my birth right to rule the Council, that’s why he tried to have me killed before even seeing the outside of my mother’s womb! Most of you knew my mother and cherished her, I trust that you will do the right thing.”
They were all staring at each other, not knowing how to proceed further, they seemed to have understood the situation, yet Morrigan’s next move caught us off guard.
One instant he was thunderstruck in a corner, trying to come to terms with this new situation, the other he lunged for Alita’s neck, lifting her from the ground with one hand.
“You! You are a traitor! I trusted you and you betrayed me! I knew that Faith could not have pulled the baby scheme alone! You helped her and Aria deceive me!” He roars, tightening his hold for reality just hit him. “For that and for lifting the shield making this battle happen, you will die at my hand!”
Alita’s voice was low while her lungs struggled for air. “You are the traitor! You have betrayed the ones that I have loved, the ones that took care of me since I was young! The only reason I stood by your side, putting up with your atrocities that killed me inside was to be able to witness your damnation! So I will gladly die now!”
Morrigan sliced her collar under our terrified eyes and tossed her to the floor. An unexpected, painful growl tore from Landon’s chest.
It sounded as if…
Fuck!
Is she his mate?
Is she dead?
