CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE

The King welcomed him, taking his arm as he introduced him to Dante.

“Oh you have not met our new Delta. Remember we lost Former Delta Johnson in the same war that claimed your father's life. Jethro has made a large input on the pack, succeeding in reducing the influx of the feral virus.” The King told them as Taylor found it difficult to pick her mouth off the ground.

The man greeted Dante like a close acquaintance, shaking his hand ferociously.

“Hello My friend, I hope you have good news for us, I think I speak for everyone when I say we have all been looking forward to this period to take a beeak. Running the Royal Pack isn't an easy job” he said and then turned to Taylor.

“And who do we have here? Sometimes I do believe the goddess is partial. How did you get hooked to such a beautiful creature?” He enquired creepily.

Dante quickly went to hold his mate, his arm wrapped around her waist.

“I think the goddess made the perfect match with us, thank you for the compliments. And no, I don't have good news so I think we can put a pause on the pleasantries, what do you think My King?” Dante said, addressing the King.

Their attitude towards the Delta was becoming obvious so Dante took his mate away from him, holding her tight.

“You are right my dear friend. The earlier we deal with this, the better for everyone. I promised my mate lots of rest” the King responded.

“What do we do?” Taylor asked her mate through their link in a panicked tone.

“We will proceed with caution. He seems too confident and that's what concerns me”

This unsettled Taylor further.

The room settled down and Taylor sat as far as possible from Jethro, her wolf very close to the surface.

Dante went ahead to address the hall.

“Luna, Damian asked me to tell you there's something going on that you should know. His bird noticed that the army, well half of it is preparing for battle and it's supposed to be their days off. Only the patrol guards should be working.” John, one of the men that came with Taylor and her mate on the journey told her in their pack mindlink

“Damn! Tell him Jethro is here, he should make sure to hide. He can't fight like the rest of us if anything happens” she commanded immediately.

Meanwhile, Dante had informed the King and his council of the things happening in the kingdom.

“I was about going to the pack I had created with my wolf which I was asked to dissolve when I found out he had taken over it and made it his base. I and my mate decided to come meet you as we have been fighting alone all these while, hoping you were doing something on your own but as we travelled through thw kingdom, so many packs had been razed to the ground, desolate and wild animals were occupying them. So we need your troops to attack. It will take us about four days to get to the pack so we need to make haste” he finished.

Everyone in the hall burst into laughter, to Dante and Taylor's dismay.

“What is he talking about? Creating tales out of thin air is above a man of your station boy!” Someone shouted from the crowd, laughing again.

The King raised his arm and the room quieted down immediately.

“Dante my friend, you realize I have the power to read minds right? I've gone through my Delta’s mind and I believe you are kind of overreacting. Please, everyone, head back to your homes, my friend is going through a lot after going feral for so long. I should have listened to him myself before dragging you all out of your rest” he finished, getting up to leave.

“No, you have to believe me. Why do you think we looked so disheveled on our way here? Even the prisoner I brought for you, I would have suggested going through all of his memories but it would weaken you too much for what is coming. My king you have to believe me?” Dante exclaimed frantically.

“Dante, please go get some rest. I will have the Omegas bring food to you and your mate.” He said smiling. He took his mate's arm and the began leaving.

Taylor was shocked, and got up immediately.

“Wait, if the Royal Pack is supposed to be on holiday, why is half of your army ready for battle?”

“What is she talking about? You are delusional as well?” The King asked, irritated at this point.

“I think this is the craziest couple of the year my king” Jethro laughed in response.

Dante walked up to the king and grabbed his arm.

“Cane, I've known you since we were in diapers. Just do this for me. Ask any of your trusted soldier, one who is loyal to you and you alone to go check. Use your mind link, it won't take you anything. You can call me crazy but my mate is what keeps me sane and she won't lie for any reason. Please check” he begged the king.

This made the King pause in his steps.

“Also, your Delta has been lying to you for years. You will soon understand” he whispered and walked back a few steps.

The King decided to ask one of his personal guards who is sworn to protect him with his life to confirm the allegations.

As he waited for a response, he walked down from the daise and approached Taylor.

“May I?” He asked and she nodded

He then placed a hand on her forehead and connected to her memory and when he came to, a tear rolled from his eyes.

“Too late my King” Jethro said, the smirk still on his face as some people began to realize what was happening, other, not so shocked.

“Seize him!” the King shouted to his guards, pointing to Jethro but nobody moved.

Then the King remembered it was Jethro that has chosen the guards roster for today. He had been too occupied as he was rounding up preparations for the continuation of the Mate Ball.

Then Jethro began laughing hysterically.

The King's guard screamed in his mind at that moment.

“My King, we are under attack!”

And all hell broke loose.
