Chapter 58 The threat

Chapter 58 The threat
Volkov’s men didn't kill me instantly.

Instead they led me to a room with just two couches , almost empty, and locked the door.

He needed an answer, he needed to know why I was lying to him all this while, luckily, that was enough to stay alive.

I paced around the room, my feet echoing through the place. I quickly slid off my suit jacket and tossed it to the ground, rolling up my sleeves. I walked to the window and tried to come.

Maybe I could escape through there.

I pulled aside the cottons, but behind it were steel bars of iron, “Fuck,” I groaned in frustration as I pulled away.

The adrenaline coursing through my veins made my hands shake, thankfully he hadn't killed me.

But what if Volkov went after Charlotte?

I clenched my fingers into a fist, “Fuck!,” I groaned as I jammed my fist into the wall before me.

I couldn't find Anastasia, not like this.

I placed my back against the wall and slid down. I had never felt so helpless, all I could think of was Charlotte, I didn't know who she would take it if I got hurt, no…I did know who I would take it if I got hurt.

I gazed quietly at the blue wall, now all I could hear was my thoughts. Charlotte must be worried sick that she hadn't heard from me by now.

Hours passed, minutes passed, but no word from Volkov, just then, footsteps approached the door.

The lock clicked as the door opened, Volkov slowly walked in, his gaze fixed on me.

“Are you finally going to tell me why you have been lying to me Fisher?,”

I said nothing.

“Or should I say…Damien Davenport?,”

Of course he looked me up.

“Let me out of here Volkov,” I stood up from the ground, “I saved your life,”

“It doesn't change the fact that you lied to me,you are up to something, or you wouldn't have lied,”

My chest heaved, I didn't have time for all this, “At least let me call my wife, let her know I'm okay,”

His brow raised, “Which one? Blond ? Or brunette?,”

I pressed my lips together and turned away from him.

“Bring them in,” he growled softly.

I turned to face him and watched as his men dragged Charlotte and Becky into the place and tossed them to the ground.

Charlotte’s eyes were red with tears, my eyes widened, “Fuck did they hurt you?!” I explained as I ran to her, as I ran past Becky guns suddenly cocked , all aimed at me.

I froze and immediately put both of my hands up, “I'm not moving,”

Volkov wakes to Charlotte's side, “It's her isn't she? The one you love?,” his gaze loved to meet mine, “You ran past that one” he pointed at Becky, she was shaking, scared but she didn't cry. “And ran to this one,” he pointed at Charlotte..

“Stay away from get Volkov,”

He grabbed Charlotte's hair and pulled her off the ground, she shook with fear, her brown eyes fixed on me.

“Damein…,” she trembled.

“You'll be safe I promise,” I assured.

“Do not make promises you can't keep Davenport!,” he growled and slipped out a knife from his pocket and aimed it at her neck.

I flung my head back,my teeth clenched tight.

“Now you are young to tell me what you are hiding or else…,”

“Fuck!!” I stomped my teeth against the ground, “fine , I'll tell you whatever you want, just let her go!”

“Speak!,” Volkov pressed the knife against her neck.

“I'm here to rescue…,”

“Damein!,” Charlotte shouted, She shook her head, “Don't…I'm not scared,”

But I knew it was a lie, I could see her trembling hands.

Volkov gazed at me, “I can see how much control she has over you,” he smirked, “Men like us shouldn't fall in love Damien, it's a weakness,”

“It's my greatest strength,” I retorted.

“It's going to make you lose this game,”

I swallowed.

He pushed Charlotte to the floor as he spoke, “Twenty four hours, you have twenty four hours to tell me the truth or I start cutting her fingers and feeding them to my dogs,”

He said and marched out of the place. One of his men closed the door shut and locked it from the outside.

I quickly rushed to Charlotte and held her in my arms, “I'm so sorry, I tried to shield you from him but he found out about you anyway,” I pressed my forehead against hers.

She locked her lips against mine, “It doesn't matter, you are safe that is all tags important,”

“Are you two done hugging?,” Becky said as she stood up from the floor , “Because we have to find a way out of here,”

I lifted Charlotte from the ground and turned to face her, “There's no way out, unless I tell him the truth,”.

“You can't, you'll he Anastasia in trouble, I care about her,”

Charlotte and I exchanged glances.

“And let's not forget how you almost revealed everything just now to save Charlotte,” she continued.

“She's my wife Becky, I would sacrifice you and I to save her if I have to,”

Becky's face fell , but there was a hint of anger in there. She turned away and marched around the room until she sat on the floor , her back pressed against the wall, her head bowed.

I looked back at Charlotte, “My love,” I cupped her face with my hands, “I'm so sorry you got dragged into this,”

She held my arms and smiled at me, “You are my husband Damien, this is your business, that means it's mine too,”

I held her hand and moved to sit on the ground.

I wrapped my fingers into hers.

“So what are we supposed to do?,” she asked.

I sucked in a deep breath, “We wait,”

Soon Charlotte placed her head on my lap and slept off, I couldn't stop staring. I gently brushed the hair off the sides of her face, “You are so beautiful,” I muttered. .

Hours passed and I wondered what I would say when Volkov returned.

Suddenly the door opened

I looked to see two men rush in.

Charlotte had woken up because of the sound, Becky as well and we all stood up.

They aimed the gun at us.

“It's been twenty three hours , I can't wait any second, I want answers and I want it now,” Volkov said as he walked in.

I garbed Charlotte's hand tightly.

“Let her go and I might talk,”

His jaw clenched, “How about I torture her and you talk?”

My eyes flickered to the two men who had come in with him as they matched Charlotte and grabbed her from me.

“Charlotte! Let her go!,” I shouted, but another man came in and pinned me against the wall.

“Charlotte!,” I shouted as they kicked her to her knees.

One of the men grabbed her arm and twisted it, my blood rushed as I heard her arm crack.

Her loud screams fi
lled the air, her eyes wide in agony.

“Charlotte!!,” I shouted, struggling to free myself from the man's grip.

“Now are you going to tell me what
