Chapter 57 Unforseen danger

Chapter 57 Unforseen danger
I didn't sleep a wink last night; I sat next to her, watching her sleep until it was morning.

A knock came at the door; I reluctantly pulled away from her and walked to open it.

Becky stood before me; she tried to hide the anger in her eyes. “Volkov contacted you this morning; he wants to hang out.” She handed me my phone; I didn't even know that I had lost it.

I grabbed it from her. “I have to focus on Charlotte right now; when she feels better, I'll save his daughter.”

Becky nodded. Without waiting for her to respond, I closed the door shut and walked into the bedroom. Charlotte's eyes were already open.

“Hey,” I quickly went to her side. “How are you?” I brushed her hair with my fingers, praying that she didn't push it off.

She swallowed, her gaze fixed on the ceiling.

“How are you?” I asked.

Her gaze finally moved to mine; my heart broke as I saw the tears in her eyes. “I’m sorry,” she choked.

“For what?” My brows pinched together.

“For how I have treated you these days,”

I stroked her hair off her face with the back of my fingers. “I deserved it,” I admitted.

She pouted her lips and stretched her hands out to me for a hug; I instantly moved into bed and wrapped her in my arms. As I heard her sob, my heart shattered.

“Please, Charlotte, that hurts me,” I began to pay her back.

Her hands curled against my chest. "It's going to happen again.”

I drew my face closer to hers. “What's going to happen again?”

“You are going to get shot.”

“No…I'll never jump in front of a bullet again.”

“You don't have to jump in for it; it will find you. That's the kind of life we live.”

The room fell silent.

“You did it to gain Volkov’s trust. What if you had died?” she struggled to suppress her anger.

I froze in silence; I had never thought of death before. It was as if I had begun to feel invincible. But now I have a wife that I have to come home to.

“Charlotte…”

“Don’t,” she cut in. “Do you remember when you created that S on my back? Your symbol?”

I see circles around her hips with my finger. “How could I forget?”

“That means I'm in the Mafia as well.” She seemed to hesitate before she spoke. “I want to be in the field with you.”

I gave her a puzzled look. “What?”

“I have to watch you leave this house with guns, praying that you return to me in one piece. I want you to know how that feels. Train me to be as good as you. I want to know how to fight, how to fire a gun, and whatever you know. ”.

She placed a finger over my lips as I attempted to speak.

“I'm not done; if you don't train me, I'll go to somebody else.”

She finally moved her hand away from me.

“Charlotte, it’s dangerous out there.”

“You go anywhere, don’t you?” she pressed.

“I have done this for years; I know what I'm doing out there.”

She looked away from me. “Then I’m choosing the best teacher.”

My jaw clenched tight, and I slid out of bed, pacing the room in anger.

“You make me panic for your safety every day, and the single thought of me out there makes you this way? Now imagine how it is on me!” She pointed at her chest as she stood up to face me.

“Baby, I don't care if you have fifty-nine years of experience. I would rather die than put you in danger.” I moved to stand before her.

“I'll meet somebody else to teach me.”

“Fuck, you are stubborn,” I mumbled in frustration.

She crossed her arms across her chest, waiting for me to give her an answer. I knew she would find something else if I didn't.

“Fuck Charlotte,” I cursed, raking my fingers through my black hair. How could I be so easily defeated?

“Well?” she asked.

I placed my hands on her lips and pressed her tightly against myself. “You make me crazy, you know that?”

She clicked her tongue. “Is that a yes?”

“How can I say no to you?” I placed my forehead against hers.

“Good boy,” her lips locked against mine.

“Fuck, I missed you,” I mumbled as I kissed her back, her arms wrapped around my neck as I lifted her against myself and led her to the bed.

I sat with her on top
of me, looking up at her. “I love you so much, you know that, right?”

She nodded. “I do too.”
