When fate deals a cruel hand, survival becomes the only option. For Alessia "Lexi" Thompson, that means donning a waitress uniform to cover the mounting medical bills of her precious six-year-old daughter, Emily. But the harsh realities of her new life are only exacerbated by the constant harassment of the restaurant's shady clientele. Just when it seems like all hope is lost, a familiar face appears in the restaurant. In walks Dominic "Dom" Rossi, her ex-boyfriend, and sweeps her off her feet-literally. He whisks her away to his luxurious penthouse, and Lexi is torn between her lingering feelings for Dom and her fear of his sudden interest in her. But what Lexi doesn't know is that Dom has been hiding a dark secret: he is now a powerful mafia boss, and his intentions as regards Lexi are far from pure. As Lexi gets deeper into Dom's world, she will have to face the truth about her ex-boyfriend and the danger that comes with loving him. And then there is the secret Lexi has kept from Dom: the existence of their six-year-old daughter, Emily. Can Lexi protect her daughter from Dom's dark world, or will she have to make a choice between her love for Dom and her duty to protect her child?
