Chapter 202 Mission investigation
Adriana
I went go to neither Jared's nor Alan's place, Instead I found the house of the merchants who's daughter Senna wanted to marry.
It was another part of town I was yet to explore, this was the lane of the rich, very nice houses, and and increased level of comfort. It even had a stable and official riding field, and today, that was my destination.
I was a very skilled rider, practiced since I was tall enough to sit on a horse without falling, but today, I approached the stable as a clumsy learner.
"Tighten your hands on the reigns Miss Eve." The instructor, Olive assigned to me hissed. He seemed angry, but I could tell I wasn't the cause.
"I'm so sorry, I don't think I can do this, I'm not capable of riding a horse." I let out a dramatic cry, "I should just go home. How do I get off this thing?"
Olive took a deep breath, "Sorry Miss, this isn't your fault, it's very normal to be clumsy on your first horse. I'm the clumsy one. I should do better, now, hold the reigns like this." He demonstrated the grip before letting go so I would try.
I did it the right way this time.
"There, you see." He commended, his mood lifting, a smile threatened to widen the edge of his lips, he seemed relieved.
"I can only thank you." I said humbly, "You're a patient teacher." I commended.
Olive shook his head, "if only you had met my seniors, they're far better than me in teaching, you'll be riding around the field in no time." He boasted.
"Where are they then?" I asked, the stable seemed quiet, almost deserted.
"They left to be horsemen." Olive announced sadly.
Horsemen? I might be wrong but, "Aren't horsemen warriors?"
"I'd asked the same thing but no one was willing to give me answers, but one thing I know is the my seniors aren't warriors but they're very good with animals, horses especially."
"What if they went to work in another stable?" I asked.
Olive shook his head, "it can't be. I know them. This place is home. I think they'll come back though."
"You can hung out with your friends outside work yunno." I informed him. Even if his seniors had to change workplace, they could still be friends.
"Nah, I'm banned from seeing them. My dad owns this place and he's hurt they all ditched him at the same time, and also..." Olive looked around then fell quiet.
I looked back to see whatever he had seen that had quieted him but found nothing.
"Also what?" I asked, curious, anticipating. This could be it, the answer I needed.
"I shouldn't tell you. You're just a lady. Even my father would never talk about it." He shook his head, "Are you satisfied with your progress for today or you'll like to continue?" He asked me.
"Can I stay and bond with the horses?" I asked. It was lovely to sit with horses but I never got time to do that at the palace.
I missed Louisa most in moments like this, she could communicate in animals, if she was here, all my questions wouybe answered and I wouldn't even have to stress out with a dual personality.
Maybe it was time to ask for a little help.
"Good boy." I muttered when the horse took an apple from my hand. "Good boy."
I wanted to rub his hair and kiss his eyes but I knew there was a limit to how I could play with an unfamiliar horse. I'd have to come here a lot more regularly to be able to do this.
"OLIVE!!" The voice of an older man came through the front door.
I stood up to look who it was.
The face was familiar, I was sure I'd seen him before.
"You look familiar," he voiced my thoughts. It was the first time Eve was hearing those words.
"I'm learning how to ride here. I just ended a session with Olive." I explained.
He nodded, "where is he now?"
I had no idea.
"Are you done here? I'd like to lock up, I'm heading to the post office. I've got some letters to send." He explained.
I stood up, "what a coincidence, I have letters to write and send too. I was hoping to write it there." Olive's dad didn't seem like he appreciated the company, but I didn't mind. I rode with him anyway.
Olive's dad had a title. Very few had titles in the high city.
When the high city was created, it's pioneers were given titles as only one person could be king. As time passed, some died, some tranfered their titles to their children, some saw the title as meaningless and dropped it, some moved away from the city without any word about the continuity of the title. It was rare to see a man still bearing his title with pride.
The Stallion.
I figured it was because he loved horses, or the live ran deep in the family and so keeping the title was more of their love for horses than the city. Still, it was impressive.
"Can you write?" Olive's dad asked as we got closer to the post place.
"Uhmmm... Yes." I confessed.
"You'll
write this letter for me." He commanded.
