Chapter 8 The rules…
Vivian
Brad didn’t hide his excitement when I told him he got the house and could move in. He was almost jumping for joy and that got me wondering how desperately he needed the space.
“We’ll talk later in the night, huh? Let me know how it goes.” Ally said as she hugged me and left.
“Can I move in today?” Brad asked and I shot him a weird look.
“I guess you can, once I get your payment.” I chimed in and immediately he grabbed his phone, asked for my details and in another minute, my phone beeped. I checked and it was a credit alert from him.
He left almost immediately while I called the landlord she made the payment. I actually sold one of my designer bags to be able to get my own half of the rent. I didn’t tell Ally because I know she’d never agree.
About a couple of hours later, the doorbell went off and on getting to the door, it was Brad standing there with his things. I couldn’t believe it but I can’t complain. I already gave him the chance and he has fulfilled his part by paying.
I showed him to his room and went back to the living room while he settled in. When he was finally done, he came to join me in the living room and that seemed like the perfect time to share with him, what I’d been working on.
“Hope you’re good? If you need my help with anything at all, just let me know and I’ll get to it immediately.” He said while I rolled my eyes and stood up.
“Here, take,” I said and handed him the piece of paper I’d been writing on.
“What’s this?”
“I’m sure you know you have to actually check when you’re given something so please do well to check what on it.” I said firmly and he skimmed through before looking back at me.
“House rules? I didn’t know that existed or that we needed it, I already promised to be on my best behavior. I’m never going to give you any headache.” He countered while I rolled my eyes again. If he thinks I’m just going to take his words for it and do nothing on my part, then he’s in for a rude shock.
“Well, you don’t expect me to just take your words for it. People say one thing and go ahead to do another thing entirely. That’s exactly why I said up with the those rules. They are just five but you should know that I take them very seriously and will not tolerate any contempt of the rules at all. You can’t cross the lines or we would have issues.” I said and he nodded cooperatively.
“The first rule is that you mind your business. We are roommates, not friends, I already have Ally and that and I’m not looking to replace her. So please stick only to the business that pays you and not mine. Secondly, you can’t…”  I hadn’t finished before he cut in sharply and started to read out the rules.
“Fine, I’m glad we both have an agreement.” I simply added and then went into my room.
I got into bed and after scrolling for a while on my phone, I slept off. The next time I opened my eyes, it was evening already and I was so famished. My belly was even making loud noises to show its displeasure.
I quickly made an order and it wasn’t king before it arrived. I went to get it and went back into my room to eat.
I was taking the last bite when my phone started to ring. I checked and it was Ally on the other end:
“Heyy,” I let out and I could hear her laugh. I immediately knew she was with Justin and he was probably tickling her, which is making her sound that way. I know her that much and I can tell her mood just from her sounds. She can do the same with me as well. That’s how in sync we are with each other.
“How is it going over there? When is he moving in?” She asked and I laughed.
“That should be the case in a normal setting, right? Well, it’s different with me because the moment you left, he asked if he could move in immediately. I thought he was joking until he paid, left and showed up with his things. As we speak, he’s moved in and in his room.” I explained and Ally burst into laughter.
“That’s so funny. He’s really desperate to get somewhere. I’m glad it worked out well though. Now you don’t have to be alone anymore. You have a company now.” She let out.’
“Ohh trust me, it definitely worked out well and no he’s not my company. I already gave him the house rules and the first one on the list is that he minds his business ahd never intervene in mine.” I countered and she laughed again.
“And when did you start having house rules? I’m sure you wrote it yourself… wait, what did he say when told him the rules?” She asked me.
“What did he say? You’re asking as if you don’t know he has no choice than to do my will. It’s my house anyway. So my house, my rules.” I said firmly and we both burst into laughter. Justin couldn’t resist it too so he soon joined us and I heard him laugh out loud from the background.
“I get it’s our space but it’s not your house so try to live peacefully with him. I already said it that he isn’t a bad person so you should be calm and just be civil about the whole thing. She chimed in and I nodded like I was joing to follow any of her advice.
“It’s okay, I’ll try my best not to be a bad person.” I replied.
“You can never be a bad person because it’s not in you. You’re one of the sweetest people I know.
“Ohh, which other sweet people do you know?” I teased.
“I’m not going to give you a name so you don’t kidnap then out of jealousy.” He teased too and I teased her back. We went back and forth before we decided to call it a night.
“We’ll talk in the morning.” She chimed in and I smiled.
“You know we really don’t have to talk every morning. I know you’re trying to keep up with me through checks, but I’m okay. I mean it when I said that I’m done moping over him. I’ve done that for too long and I neglected myself in the process. Not anymore. Now it’s all about me!” I let out confidently and I could hear her hailing me.
“That’s my girl. That’s exactly the way to go and I’m so damn proud of you.” She chimed in.
A part of me felt on top of the world while the other part screamed at me that the plan was going to fail. I quickly shook off the thought and went back to the call…
