Chapter 6 He deserves a chance!
Vivian
I made myself comfortable and waited for him. I was ready to make things really difficult for him that he would be the one begging to leave. He soon came in with Ally and I looked at him briefly before looking away. I made sure the attitude in my look was loud so he would know I wasn’t having it with him at all.
“Hi,” he said quietly while standing while I just nodded without saying a word.
“You can have you seat,” Ally said and they both sat at the same time. I was still mute and Ally looked at me, motioning me to say something and start.
“Okay so,” I finally started, clearing my throat loudly.
“Tell us about yourself briefly,” I let out and he leaned forward before he started.
“My name is Brad Buxton, and I’m product designer in one of the tech companies in the city. It’s not up there yet but we are gradually building it up to meet up with its counterparts. I actually came for the interview because I need a place to move in urgently. My landlord just asked me to move out and no, it’s not because I’m a bad tenant. If anything, I’m sure he can also testify that I’m a man easygoing person and never gave him any trouble. But he wants to do some renovation at the house so I need to leave. That’s why I’m here, hoping I’d get a chance.” He explained and listening to him, I could tell he wasn’t lying.
That wasn’t all he said, he explained some other things and no matter how hard I tried to find contradictions to nail him with. I couldn’t find any.
“So you’re saying you weren’t stalking us?” I finally asked while he chuckled and that got me a bit angry.
“Stalk you? Why on earth will I do that? Trust me, I’m too busy to be stalking anyone. I really do not have that kind of time on my hands.” He said and as of planned, Ally and I scoffed at the same time and also shared a knowing glance. I mean, what on earth does he mean by he doesn’t have that kind of time on his hands?
“Ohh wow, sounds like you’re trying to put us down with your words. And yet, you were the one all up in our business the other day at the restaurant, or do you think we’ve forgotten.” Ally slammed at him.
“Of course not, I do remember but you have to believe me, I didn’t mean to upset you two. I meant well, I just couldn’t watch the conversation go in the way it was going, but you’re right. It was not in my place to say anything. I crossed the line and that’s really bad. I’m sorry, I hope you can forgive me and that it won’t affect this. Whatever happened has nothing to do with me being here. I only saw the Ad online and I rushed here. I was just as surprised as you were when you saw me earlier.” He let out and again, it was obvious he was telling the truth.
I still didn’t want to accept that reality so I bombarded him with different questions, and he answered them all truthfully.
At the end, there was nothing left to ask, Ally didn’t have anything to say either. He was obviously going to be a great roommate.
“Can you give us some minutes alone? I’d to speak to my friend before making a decision.” I said to him and he rose quickly to his feet.
“Of course, I’ll be outside.” He chimed in and then left.
We waited till the door clicked shut before we turned to each other and just stared.
“You saw it too, right?” She finally broke the silence while I nodded.
“I’m so impressed and it honestly took a lot of willpower not to show it. I mean, I thought he was going to mess up. How on earth did he manage to be so good? To thjnk there was not even one of the past ones that comes close to him.” I let out.
“I know right. You have to put your ego aside now and give him a chance. Trust me, he’s the best choice and from what I saw and heard, I don’t think you’re ever going to have any problem with him. He seemed really easy going. You can’t lose him, Viv. We have to grab this opportunity tightly.” She urged and even before she said it, I already thought about it all. Just ten minutes into the interview, and I already knew he was the one, I just didn’t want to accept it. I found it hard to come in terms with him.
“I know, I know. But what if we see some more people?” I asked while she curved her brows.
“Viv, we’ve interviewed over fifteen people today and it was only one that performed well. Are you saying you’re willing to go through that stress again just because of your ego?” She queried and I had nowhere else to hide.
“The wise thing to do here is to let him in. I know you have your reservations, especially because you didn’t anticipate a male roommate and then, one you had an experience with. But that means nothing. You just have to create boundaries and stick to them. He doesn’t seem like someone who would even cross boundaries.” She persuaded further and I do agree with her points, just not the part part.
“He definitely is someone like that. He did it just few days ago but I get you. He did really well and it’s just fair that I give him a chance. Besides, I desperately need the money so I have no choice than to choose him.” I let out and she gave me a thumbs up.
“That’s my girl. Should I call him back in then?” She asked and I simply nodded.
“I really hope I don’t regret this though,” I muttered under my breath as I watched Ally walk away…
