Chapter 23 Why is everything happening all at once?
Vivian
I tried a few times to move and when my legs still wouldn’t cooperate, I gently slid down the door and squatted. I stayed there for a while, thinking about the whole thing all over again.
I was carried away when my legs finally moved but I didn’t notice until about a minute later when it dawned on me.
I immediately jumped to my feet and hurried into the closet. I stripped out of my clothes and then went into the bathroom. I was still enjoying the shower when I remembered my masked man.
“Oh my, oh my!” I let out as I quickly rushed out.
I cleaned up real fast and then threw on a nightgown. I sunk into the bed, grabbed my phone and quickly checked.
Just as I imagined, there had been a couple of messages from him. Even before checking them, I already knew what they were about.
“Do I have any excuses? Yes, but am I going to use them. No, I won’t. I’m so sorry for being away for so long. It’s just that my day went so well that I was overwhelmed with the enjoyment.” I quickly sent to him and my phone beeped with a response almost immediately.
“Hmmmm… I was mad but now that you’re back to me, I’m no more angry. I’m just happy you’re here so tell me about your day which was filled with so much excitement. What made it so exciting without me? Please tell me it’s not a man!” He replied and I laughed at first before the last part actually dawned on me.
I mean, he was right, my day ended with a kiss from a man and now I’m left contemplating if yo tell him or not.
I can’t.
“Uhm, so I met with…” I narrated the whole thing to him, mostly the part with Ally. I was detailed about it but when it got to Brad, I just mentioned the party and that was all. At first I convinced myself it was none of his business whatever I decide to do. After all, I don’t know what he does over there either but then that feeling soon washed off. On a second thought, I started feeling guilty like I had cheated on him and I couldn’t even explain why since I’m not committed to him in anyway.
“Are you okay? You seem a bit different and quiet.” He replied and I chuckled.
“What do you mean I seem quiet? How can you tell if I’m quiet or not over chats?” I asked.
“You underestimate my love for you. I don’t need to be beside you to know if you are okay or not. I can tell from our chats. You’re not chatting like your usual self and that’s confusing because it contradicts what you said about having a blast filled day.” He replied.
“Yeah you got me, I actually have some questions for you.”
“Ohhh, that’s what I like. Fire on!” He said.
“First, what’s your name? I only realized today that you never told me.” I replied.
“Well, that’s because you never asked. I asked for yours and expected you to ask me as well but you didn’t. I figured you might not really care like I thought.” He relayed and I chuckled.
“Now you’re trying to twist words to your advantage. Something must have distracted me because it’s one of the things I ask when meeeting someone for the first time.” I explained.
“No problem. That’s just how I felt but I know better now. So my name is Jeff.” He replied.
“So lay them on me, let the questions roll in now.” He added and I was about to start when I remembered Ally’s advice.
“Actually, I’d like us to talk over the phone. I could call or you could. I just want to hear what you sound like. At least if I can’t see your face for now, your voice shouldn’t be an issue.” I let out and suddenly he went silent.
It took another couple of minutes before my phone finally beeped and I got his response.
“I understand you perfectly and I’m dying to hear yours too. But then, it’s not yet time. We have to wait till our first date before any of that happens.”
I read the text about two times and both times, I felt so disturbed. Something about it just didn’t sit right with me. I mean, I get the part about waiting till the first date to see each other, but that shouldn’t apply to speaking over the phone.
“You there?” He asked, pulling me out of my thoughts.
“Yeah, still here bit already dozing off. I think I have to go now. Let’s talk in the morning or later when we’re free.” I replied and my phone beeped in a second but I didn’t check it.
I already know what it was. He’s probably asking why going off all of a sudden or that my tone has changed again. Well, he’s right both ways and I’m not ready to go further with the conversation.
I tossed the phone to the other side and then shut my eyes, ready to sleep. A few minutes later and I opened it again. My phone wouldn’t stop beeping and it was because of Jeff’s incessant texts. He’s probably going crazy, wondering what happened and I don’t feel bad. That’s exactly what I want.
“I really hope Ally isn’t right this time,” I muttered to myself as I grabbed the phone again, switched it off and tossed it back.
I went out into the kitchen, grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and drank almost half at once.
I heaved a deep sigh and then took the bottle with me. As I passed by Brad’s room, I felt my heart skip a beat and it felt really weighty.
I quickly ran off but quietly, I didn’t want my legs to go on strike in front of his room. I would faint if he catches me there. There’s nothing I can say to possibly explain that I wasn’t spying on him. And after our little kiss tonight, I don’t want him having such thoughts.
“We really need to do something about that,” I said to myself as I shut the door behind me and made my way back to the bed.
I drank some of the water again before getting under the sheets. I shut my eyes tight, determined to sleep this time around. But then, I stayed that way for the next twenty minutes. It seemed like sleep was reading my mind and decided to do the exact opposite.
“Don’t tell me I have to sing myself to sleep, what’s going with me? Why is everything happening to me today!” I let out…
