Chapter 12 There won’t be a next time
Vivian
I don’t know when I slept off but when I woke up, it was already morning. My phone was ringing but I couldn’t figure out where the sound was coming from. At the same time, I felt my chest vibrating and I was wondering if it as the wine I took at the party last night that was reacting already.
“Am I having a hangover?” I asked myself.
I heaved a relieved sigh when the ringing stopped but I hadn’t dropped the thought when it started ringing again.
I beat around the sheets with my hand, trying to find the phone but I couldn’t. I finally stood up and that was when I heard the crashing sound.
I looked down and it was my phone. Apparently, it was on my chest all along and that was what was vibrating against my chest.
I picked it up and saw Ally’s face lit up the screen. I already knew what she was calling for.
“Hi, good morning,” I let out weakly as I sunk back into the bed.
“Oh my goodness, Viv! Do you know how worried I was? I looked for you everywhere and I’ve been calling for hours now. You’re lucky you answered this time.” She exclaimed while I said nothing.
“She was already planning to report to the police!” Justin yelled from the background and I smiled.
I heard as Ally asked him to go away but he kept reminding her that he told her I was okay and just probably left when I got bored. The two went on teasing each other while I just listened and laughed.
“Don’t mind him, he’s always jumping into my business!” She let out.
“And you’re always in mine too!” He yelled too.
“Go away!” She fired back. If a someone that didn’t know them was there with them, they would think they are fighting for real. I’ve been around them for so long that I already know all about their drama. They can’t stop being in each other’s business and yet, they love each other so much.
“You two are so funny, honestly. You crack me up every time!” I let out while she chuckled.
“So why did you leave without telling me? Were you not enjoying the party? You know I intentionally didn’t want to be all over you so you could meet people. You can’t do that if I’m glued to you, that’s why I decided to stay away so you could mingle. Maybe I shouldn’t have done that.” She explained.
“Actually you’re right and it worked. I did meet someone, it just didn’t turn out well.” I revealed and she gasped in excitement.
“Oh my goodness! That’s so sweet, tell me all about it right now!” She squealed and I went on to tell her about the guy, the kiss, mask and how I ran away.
“Oh my, oh my. Why would you do that? Your mask went off and so? They didn’t say they would kill anyone with their mask off. You only need it as your ticket to get in, you could decide to take it off when you’re in. It’s a masked party so that people can do whatever they like without any fear. You wouldn’t be worried you are going far when no one knows who you are.” She replied.
“Exactly! In my case, my mask went off and he saw my face. He could see who I was.” I chimed in.
“No, baby, that’s a different case now. You two already connected. There’s nothing wrong if he saw your face. You should have just asked him to show you his face too, and there would be nothing to worry about anymore.” She countered and I never thought about it that way.
“Yeah, you’re right but I didn’t think about it that way. I panicked and just bounced.”
“And he didn’t try to stop you?” She asked.
“He actually tried to but I was too embarrassed to hear anything he had to say. I couldn’t even let him see my face the second time, it felt like he was magically going to recognize me. I don’t know how to explain it but that was how I felt.” I explained.
“It’s alright, I get you. But next time, don’t run away. There’s no reason to be shy. Once something like that happens, you take charge and get ahead of it. And you make sure to go all the way.” She said and I nodded my head as if she could see me.
“Alright ma’am, I’ll be sure to put that in mind for next time, ma’am.” I teased and we both laughed it off.
We talked about other things until Justin came to look for something in the room and they got into it again.
I laughed so hard and long till my belly started to ache. That was when I left them to their thing and hung up.
I was so hungry my belly was making noises, screaming for food.
I stood up and made for the door but once I opened it, I saw a food tray there. It was covered it a transparent sheet so I could see the breakfast delicacies.
It had a note too.
“Hey, good morning roomie. I’m sorry about last night. I crossed the line and got you upset so this is me apologizing. Accept this food as a peace offering and no, I didn’t forget. I know this is against the rules too so know that I’m also apologizing in advance for breaking another rule.”
I didn’t know when I started laughing and I read the note one more time before looking over at the food.
There’s really no way out with this guy. He always looks for ways to get himself in my business.
Left to me, I would have taken the food to the kitchen and leave it there for him but my belly said no. It made a really loud noise this time and I just knew I couldn’t pass on the food.
Besides, it looks so appetizing and I was eager to have a taste.
I crouched, grabbed the plate and went in to enjoy it…
