Chapter 178
I woke up early feeling unwell.
Even though Indigo had been paying special attention to my diet, I still couldn't help throwing up. Looking at my haggard reflection in the mirror, I realized that the long months ahead would leave me exhausted, both physically and mentally.
"Are you feeling better?"
Levi was knocking on the door. He was probably scared by my reaction just now.
"I'm fine, I'll be right out."
I turned on the faucet and splashed some cold water on my face, hoping it would help me feel more alert and energized.
The sound of running water made my ears ring briefly.
Right now, I really needed to take care of my body. During this period when I couldn't take medicine, if I got sick, I'd just have to tough it out.
I dried my face and turned around to see Levi's figure outside the door.
I felt a bit of warmth in my heart. Compared to when I was pregnant with Celestia, he was clearly showing me more concern.
I opened the door, and he stepped aside.
"How are you? Want some water?"
I looked at him holding a glass in one hand and the other hand in his pocket. This cocky guy actually had a gentle side.
"Much better."
Indigo rubbed her hands together, looking me up and down. "Mrs. Morgan, is your morning sickness getting worse again? Weren't you doing better a few days ago? You barely threw up at all."
"Maybe my stomach is upset. I'm not sure what's causing it."
Levi chuckled. "Maybe before it was one baby causing it, and these past few days they've switched to the other one."
I really had to admire his imagination - the babies taking turns making their mother throw up.
Indigo laughed when she heard this. "Mr. Morgan, the way you put it, the two babies are taking turns giving their mom a hard time. I think Mrs. Morgan isn't wearing enough. You should remind her more often, or just grab her a jacket yourself."
"You have to take care of your own wife. You're the closest person to Mrs. Morgan."
Indigo glanced at Levi, didn't continue, and quietly went to clean up the kitchen.
I had to say, Levi was quite efficient. Just as I was heading to the living room to rest, he rushed ahead and grabbed his sweater from the coat rack to drape over me.
"You don't mind, do you?"
"My clothes are right there. Are you doing this on purpose?"
Levi pressed his lips together. "Pregnant women are supposed to wear loose clothing."
"My clothes are loose too."
"Your clothes look like children's clothes..."
Was he openly teasing me? Was he saying I was too thin or too short?
I pulled the clothes tighter. "Fine, I'll wear this until the baby is born. Let's see just how loose it is."
Levi sat down across from me. "Our family isn't that poor. Don't let people say I'm treating you badly."
When he said "our family," my heart skipped a beat. This seemed to be the first time I'd heard him put us together. The feeling was so wonderful.
I was immersed in this joy until there were other sounds outside the door.
"Mr. Morgan, Miss Greer is here."
Indigo stood at the door, taking the gifts Jessa had brought.
I turned around and saw her smiling face.
Since the Arabella incident, everyone had been wary of Jessa. The security guard let her in, probably because things had been peaceful at home lately and they hadn't paid close attention.
"Levi, the holidays are coming up. I came to see you."
Jessa's carefree manner showed no sign of her past romantic entanglement with Levi. She was like an old friend visiting.
But this was my home, and I could never let go of my hatred for her and her mother.
Especially during the holiday season.
"Oh, you're home too, sis."
Jessa emphasized "sis" particularly heavily. She was probably deliberately reminding me about the grave relocation, as only Chase could connect us as sisters.
"Bad timing. You came so suddenly, I didn't have time to leave."
I calmly set out the teacups - one for me and one for Levi. None for her.
"Blair, your hospitality is pretty poor."
Indigo smiled awkwardly. "Miss Greer, let me make you some tea."
"Wait!"
I smiled at Indigo. "You go ahead with your work. I'll handle this."
Jessa rolled her eyes at me. "I came to pay back money, not to drink your tea. The Embers are so petty. People who don't know might think the Morgans are stingy."
"You have no right to mention the Embers."
I took a cup and turned it upside down, not too hard but not too gently either, making Jessa lose her composure.
"Oh my, you scared me, Blair. Be gentle. If it breaks, what a shame for such a nice tea set."
"No problem. We have plenty more."
Levi suddenly spoke up, and he was taking my side.
In the past, when Jessa and I clashed, he always stayed silent. Had the sun risen in the west today? He was actually standing up for me against his former lover.
"Levi..."
Jessa hadn't expected Levi to defend me. She thought she could still act wild in front of me like before.
"My wife isn't feeling well today. Thanks for the gift. I won't see you out."
She had just arrived, and Levi was already asking her to leave. He not only talked back to her but was also asking her to go.
How could the proud Jessa stand this?
Despite her displeasure, Jessa still put on a smile. She slowly took a card from her bag and placed it on the coffee table.
"Levi, this is the final payment. I made a lot of money recently, so now I've paid everything back."
Levi leaned forward and pushed the card toward me. "Same as before, just give the money to my wife."
Jessa and I seemed to have switched roles. Now I was the silent one, and I was getting carried away hearing him say "my wife" over and over.
Had my pregnancy with twins changed Levi's personality?
Or did he have some feelings for me now?
"Oh, hey, I forgot. Same thing, same thing."
Jessa awkwardly rubbed her hands together and reached for some nuts to ease her embarrassment, but she didn't grip them well, and the pine nuts fell back onto the plate.
At this moment, I felt embarrassed for her. Her face was bright red.
"Um, well... I've finished what I came to do, and I've settled what was on my mind. I'll be going now. We'll see each other again when we have the chance. Levi, Happy New Year."
Jessa looked at Levi, treating me like I was invisible again.
But I didn't want to talk to her either.
Out of courtesy, Levi still walked her to the door. I stood by the window, watching in their direction.
Suddenly, Ava burst into my view. I widened my eyes to confirm - it really was her...
"Levi, your house is so beautiful."
Ava came up and hugged Levi. Jessa, standing nearby, was stunned.
"Aren't you with Mr. Sullivan?"
"I just heard you say you were coming to Levi's house, so I followed you. I'm clever, right?"
Ava excitedly walked in, looking around the yard. I guessed that Jessa's money was probably an advance endorsement fee from Elliot, and when she told Elliot she was coming to our house, that's when Ava followed along.
