Chapter 179
Ava didn't feel like an outsider at all and was touring our house quite comfortably.
And Jessa, who was about to leave, stayed to watch the show.
"Levi, everything should be first-come, first-served, right? Why do you treat guests so differently?"
Jessa was deliberately stirring things up. She was testing Levi's reaction, wanting to know if he still had feelings for her.
As a woman myself, I understood her little scheme perfectly - she was just trying to find some balance by comparing herself to Ava.
"Levi, is your wife not home?"
Ava sat on the swing, even picking one of the roses I'd planted to play with.
As Levi turned around, I hid behind the wall. I didn't want them to know I was watching them. I wanted to see what Levi would say.
"She's here."
"Then why doesn't she come out to greet me? Before, when I said I'd visit her house, she said she'd host me properly."
That was just polite talk. I didn't believe Ava actually thought I was sincere about hosting her back then.
"Who do you think you are? My sister doesn't even pay attention to me, how could she be warm to you?"
Jessa was stirring the pot from the sidelines. I knew she had bad intentions - she just wanted to watch us tear into each other for her entertainment.
"Your sister?"
Ava stood up, gesturing with one finger. "I guess that makes sense - you're close with Elliot, they're friends, you two are sisters."
I have to say, foreigners' logic is really poor. How would I be connected to them? Elliot and I just have a business relationship, nothing more.
Mentioning Elliot seemed to hit a nerve with Levi. He glanced in my direction again.
Indigo quietly came to my side. "Mrs. Morgan, how about I go send them away, so neither you nor Mr. Morgan has to be uncomfortable."
"He can handle it."
This uninvited guest was enough trouble for Levi. They were both women he'd gotten involved with - I wanted to see who he'd side with.
I watched as Levi stood between Jessa and Cleo, the two of them talking over each other until he looked annoyed.
"Mrs. Morgan, excuse me for saying so, but how did Mr. Morgan get mixed up with these two chatterboxes? Especially Miss Greer - she used to seem so elegant, now she's like some gossipy shrew."
"Haha, that's a bit dramatic."
One talked fast, the other couldn't keep up. The two of them had Levi stuck in the middle, caught between them.
The frustration in my heart suddenly lessened, and I found myself enjoying the show.
Just as Indigo and I were laughing, Levi walked straight toward us, grabbed my hand and started pulling me outside...
"What are you doing? Handle your own problems, okay?"
"Hey, let go of me..."
Levi hooked my hand around his arm, and by the time we stood in front of them, my heart was still racing.
"My wife and I are going to a family dinner. We won't see you out."
Ava blocked our way. "Levi, you're so rude. I come to your house, and this is how you treat me? You're crossing the bridge and tearing it down. You got what you wanted from my family, and now you're turning your back on me."
"Business is over. It has nothing to do with personal life. Anything that bothers my wife, I won't allow."
Jessa laughed mockingly. "Fine, fine, fine. Now I see clearly - Blair has won your heart for now. You're really something!"
She gave me a fake thumbs up, but it was really a dig at me.
"Fine, we'll see. I'll show you I'm better than her!"
I had to admire Ava - no matter what Levi said, she wouldn't get mad at him, but kept expressing her feelings.
The driver brought the car around. Levi pulled me into it, leaving the two of them standing at our door, watching us leave.
I was dazed the whole ride, until I realized I was still wearing a Levi's sweater, and I nearly jumped.
"Hey, my clothes..."
Wearing Levi's sweater on top, pajamas on the bottom, and fuzzy slippers on my feet - showing up at the Morgan mansion's family dinner like this would be embarrassing.
Levi smiled mischievously. "It has its own charm."
"This is all your fault!"
I instinctively hit Levi, but pulled back right after. I'd never "hit" him before...
Even though I hadn't specifically prepared formal wear, wearing this was really inappropriate. If any of Aiden's guests saw me like this, it would really embarrass the Morgan family.
"Stop at the mall ahead."
"Yes, Mr. Morgan."
Levi went to buy me clothes while I waited in the car. He'd originally invited me to go with him so I could try things on.
I told him he was confused - if we went shopping together like this, it would definitely be big news. I'd been carefully hiding our relationship, but now he wasn't being cautious at all.
When the car stopped at the Morgan mansion, Levi signaled for the driver to get out.
Then he positioned himself in front of me and spread his arms.
"Go ahead and change. There's no one here."
No one here? How could I change with him staring straight at me like that? Plus, I needed to put on my bra.
I bit my lip and frowned. "How about you turn around?"
Levi looked at me intently for a few seconds, then suddenly turned around. "We're an old married couple..."
Looking at his back, I thought to myself, 'Who's an old married couple with you? No sense at all.'
I'd been waiting to see how he'd handle those two women's drama, but he just pulled me out, casually mentioned a family dinner, and left them both at our door.
He used me as a shield, and now, when I asked him to turn around while I changed, he was being awkward about it. Where did that proud attitude of his go?
I quickly changed clothes. Just as I was about to speak, he turned around and grabbed my pajamas from my hands.
"You get out first."
I pointed at myself, then followed his instructions and got out of the car first. I was too lazy to argue with him.
He neatly folded my clothes and put them in the bag. Watching from outside, I was stunned - the great Mr. Morgan was actually folding my clothes.
Then I looked at the red Chanel-style suit he'd chosen for me, and I was just speechless.
Was this Levi's taste?
I liked more casual styles. I wasn't like his secretaries or the women he'd gotten involved with. After all these years, didn't he know my clothing style?
"Not bad, right? New year, new look."
Levi was showing off his taste to the driver, who kept agreeing. "Yes, yes, Mrs. Morgan looks great in it."
Seeing that smug smile on Levi's lips, I couldn't bear to rain on his parade. I just steeled myself and walked beside him.
"Isn't it a bit early? It's not even noon yet, and we're already here."
In the past, at family dinners, we were almost always the last to arrive. He didn't want to spend time with me - we just cooperated to get through it.
"Not early. It's nice to have tea with Grandpa."
After Levi's trip to Eldoria, what happened to him? He seemed like a different person...
