Chapter 25 continuation
Hailey was lying on the bed, using the remote control to switch between different channels to find something interesting. The girl spent all day today in the room, not wanting to do anything. She was dressed in pajama shorts and a loose tank top, and even the thought of getting out of bed and doing something chilled her brain. A warm blanket warmed her body, enveloping her in comfort.
Purely accidentally hitting the news channel, a brown-haired woman with a red tint of hair left this channel, noticing the interesting material that was discussed in the program.
'Today, there was a massive firefight in the city on the North-South border, as a result of which a large number of people died,' the reporter said, and in the back of him you could see distant shots of the wasteland on which everything happened. 'after which there was a strong explosion of the building. We can see it in the photographs of eyewitnesses.'
Mackenzie frowned, now understanding why it had been overcast all day.
'Acid smoke descended from the sky to the ground as fog. We ask everyone not to leave the house and do not open the windows so as not to inhale poisonous substances into the lungs, and also not to drive on the roads, because the visibility is very low.'
The door quietly opened and Foster entered the room, who had not appeared in front of Hailey for two whole days. The guy closed the door, shifting his gaze from the young girl to the TV screen.
'Did you do that?'
'No.'
'Who then?'
'Get it, Hailey,' he sat on the edge of the bed, carefully placing his hand on the girl's leg so as not to startle her. 'it's not just me, North has Stanley Hartman under him. This man is very dangerous and you should not cross his path. You can see for yourself what he did.'
'Lie down,' Hailey suggested, moving over to her left side.
'Oh, you let me, right? I'll circle this day with a red marker on my calendar,' the guy laughed, but nevertheless accepted the offer and lay down next to him, quickly covering himself with a blanket.
The blanket lifted up and Foster grinned as he noticed what the girl was wearing. Slowly, it sank down, covering the two young people with its warmth.
'Wipe the smirk off your face and keep talking, please.'
The blond man rested his head on another pillow, thinking for a second, but then continued his story, fixing his eyes on the ceiling:
'The South under Jack Johnson. This man was always at war with Stanley. He laid eyes on a piece of his land and is still making plans in his head how to take it away for himself. But as you can see, he is not very good at it.'
'Are there any other groups besides you and them?'
Hailey turned her head towards the guy, looking at his profile. He ran his tongue over his lower lip, then suddenly turned to face Mackenzie.
'There is.'
'What kind?'
'Don't you know too much about all this shit, angel?' Foster asked sarcastically, placing his hand on the brown haired woman's thin waist, pushing her body closer to him too fast for her, but not removing his hand afterwards.
'Hey, your hand is cold,' the girl laughed, trying to remove his hand from her body.
'Then warm me up, what's the problem?' The young man asked, but he did not expect that after his words, Hailey would put her head on his chest, and she would snuggle closer to him.
The guy smiled contentedly, with his palm starting to stroke the brown-haired woman through her silky hair.
'You didn't answer my question, Jay.'
'There is also a West and an East, what do you think is mine?'
Mackenzie lifted her head, looking thoughtfully at Foster.
"Weee…" The girl said the first letter, waiting for a hint from the blond, to which James shook his head. 'East?'
'Yes, the East is under my control,' Hailey lay back on the guy's chest, continuing to listen. 'Well, as for the West... He's at Williams Foster's hand.'
His voice trailed off, unwilling to say anything about this man. It was damn hard for him. The brown-haired woman took his hand, squeezing it tighter to show her support.
'Come down to the living room tonight, about eight o'clock. Just get dressed, angel, I beg you,' James said, clapping the girl on the thigh with a smile.
And this evening came very soon. In a large room, all the guys in the group gathered together with Foster at the head. There were drinks and food on the table, a rounded sofa was placed around the table, and chairs were placed on the other side. The lights were dim and the ambience was cozy. Everyone was talking among themselves, and when the doors opened, James and Nick raised their heads, fixing their eyes on the entrance, expecting to see Evans, but it was only Hailey who walked in in black jeans and a loose purple top that showed a little bit of her stomach. As a matter of fact, as requested by the blond man, she was quite closedly dressed.
Mackenzie sat between Miller and Foster with a smile, addressing the latter: 'I came as you asked.'
'I'm glad about that, it remains to wait for the last guest,' he exchanged glances with Nick, receiving a nod in response that it was time to start.
James got up from the sofa, standing in the middle of the living room and loudly clapping his hands a couple of times so that everyone would pay attention to him: 'We are all gathered here for a completely non-holiday dinner. This person really wanted to greet you all, so I had to invite him here. In fact, I didn't even invite him.'
The door suddenly opened and a young man entered the room. One would think that he was waiting for everyone to be warned about his presence.
Everyone rolled their eyes in shock because no one thought that he would come back.
'This guest is Nathan Evans, guys.'
'It's very nice that you introduced me, James, but I think everyone remembers me very well,' the brown-haired man said with a smile on his lips, raising his eyebrows up and down.
Foster walked past Dean, patting him sympathetically on the shoulder. The guy looked at Nathan and couldn't believe his eyes. The green emeralds darkened and the young man realized that he was about to cry, feeling extra moisture in his eyes. He lowered his head, knitting his eyebrows and pursing his lips.
'Hi, curly-haired boy,' he heard a soft whisper beside him. 'We need to talk, Dean,' Nathan demanded. 'I'll wait for you outside.'
The young man left without waiting for any answer in his direction. The curly-haired boy lifted his head as Evans left. His brows furrowed in anger, remembering all the moments where the brown-haired man always left like this, being sure that Dean Tonri would run after him, which, in fact, happened.
'You shouldn't go to him if you don't want to.'
Tonri turned his head sharply to the side where he heard himself addressed. His angry eyes met calm blue-grey ones. Nick patted his knee, pursing his lips.
'I'm going to go right now and say all the shit I think about him,' Tonri growled, jumping up and striding confidently towards the exit.
Fresh air hit my face, enveloping my body in a slight chill. The guy menacingly headed towards the bench, with every step feeling a strong gust of wind, as if the weather had taken over his mood.
'You know what, Nathan Evans?!' Dean yelled, noticing the man sitting quietly smoking. 'Didn't you go to hell?!'
The curly-haired guy came close enough, standing in front of the face of the brown-haired man. It pissed him off that Nathan was completely at peace when he himself stood here in front of him all on edge.
'Get that shit out of your mouth when I'm talking to you!' Tonri roughly took the joint from his lips, taking a puff, then threw it on the ground.
