Chapter 344: Mia Draws Uri
Chapter 344: Mia Draws Uri
After the slaps, before Uri could react, Mia quickly stepped back to her original position and putting distance between herself and him.
Looking at him, the hatred in her eyes was no longer concealed. "Uri, in this lifetime, you and I are sworn enemies!"
Because of him, Pax had suffered so much. Because of him, James's life now hung in the balance.
If killing weren't against the law, she would have torn him to pieces.
Uri had been slapped twice in front of all his subordinates.
The smile at the corner of his lips instantly vanished, and in the darkness, his eyes were ice-cold.
Mia had struck with force. He had no defense against her and took both slaps full-on.
Two clear handprints marked his face, and his split lip was bloody.
Uri spat out the blood in his mouth.
He raised his hand and slowly wiped the corner of his mouth with his thumb, looking at Mia with a hint of madness in his eyes.
Like an enraged beast, the animal nature within him was stirring.
"Mia, I've been far too indulgent with you."
He had indulged her, allowing her to become increasingly lawless in his presence.
She took advantage of his reluctance to get rough with her, doing whatever she pleased.
He was indeed reluctant to get rough with her, but he had plenty of other ways to punish. For example, in bed.
Mia understood the vile thoughts in Uri's eyes and felt utterly disgusted.
"Who needs your indulgence? Even looking at you makes me sick!"
"Get Mia into the car," Uri commanded.
Uri gave his subordinates behind him a look.
They immediately approached Mia.
The bodyguards in the car had already gotten out, immediately blocking Mia's path and protecting Mia and Pax as they backed away.
Uri's subordinates all knew how important Mia was to him.
No one really dared to get rough with Mia.
Uri lost all patience.
He couldn't wait for his subordinates to act.
He stepped forward himself to pull Mia into the car.
He couldn't wait to overpower her. His biggest regret was loving her too much, respecting her too much, and having too much patience.
If he had known earlier that her heart couldn't be warmed, why would he have bothered with such trouble?
He should have figured it out long ago—the way to a woman's heart is through her body.
He should have taken her long ago.
The bodyguards Dennis left behind tangled with Uri's men.
Mia held Pax in her arms, and the subordinates didn't dare touch her.
Until Uri strode toward her . "Mia, behave yourself. Don't force me to get rough with you."
The bodyguard saw Uri approaching and rushed forward. He exchanged a few blows with Uri before being kicked away by him and falling heavily to the ground.
As if feeling no pain, he immediately got up from the ground and charged forward again.
Uri pulled out his weapon, about to attack the bodyguard.
A bright light shone from behind, making Uri squint.
The bodyguard had already ushered Mia and Pax to the side to protect them.
Carl's car sped over, heading straight for Uri.
Uri's expression changed instantly. He quickly dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding Carl's car.
His men also rushed forward, shielding Uri behind them.
Carl's car stopped right where Uri had been standing.
Several cars followed, stopping beside Uri’s fleet , forming a standoff as they opened their doors and got out.
Mia saw Carl and breathed a sigh of relief.
"Mia, sorry. There was an incident on the way that delayed me a few minutes. I'm late. Are you and Pax okay?"
On the elevated bridge during his drive here, he had run into Orla trying to escape.
A car with fake plates headed straight for Orla's car.
It was a death-defying lunatic.
The purpose was clear—to ram Orla's car through the guardrail into the river, so they would die together.
Orla couldn't die.
Carl's car was modified. He rammed directly into the attacking vehicle, reducing the impact force.
The car still hit Orla's car, but didn't send it plunging into the river with her inside.
Just deployed the airbag, leaving her unconscious.
He left two men to handle Orla and floored the gas pedal to rush over.
"We're fine." Mia shook her head and nodded gratefully at Carl.
She bent down and said to Pax, "Baby, get in the car first."
Pax was very obedient. Knowing it was dangerous now, he climbed into the car.
"Carl, James is already a dead man. Why make an enemy of the Smith Family for a dead man?
Why not make peace with me? Whatever James could give you, I can promise you—only more, not less."
Uri looked coldly at Carl.
In Imperial City, the Smith Family controlled half the territory.
With James dead, the Smith Family would return to his hands.
"Are you worthy?"
Carl laughed coldly.
"Tell me, what else do you want?"
In Uri's eyes, where was there any real friendship? He and James shared the same blood, yet they fought to the death over power.
So-called feelings were nothing more than entanglements of interest. They were only willing to revolve around James because he gave them enough benefits.
Carl was now pretending to have a good relationship with James, simply because he felt what he was offering wasn't enough and wanted to take advantage of the situation to demand more.
"Would a heartless bastard like you understand what friendship is?"
A flashy red sports car shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.
With a screech of its brake, it stopped steadily beside Carl's car.
The door opened . Having rushed over after receiving Mia's call, Louis was still wearing his uniform.
As he stepped out, the wind at the cliff's edge lifted the hem of his coat.
Usually the least serious among them, he now looked wickedly fierce as he cursed directly.
They were willing to go through fire and water for James because of their brotherhood, not because of the interests James held in the Smith Group.
Louis looked at Uri and sneered, "What does Carl want? He wants your life—so go die!"
He twirled the scalpel in his hand, looking coldly at Uri.
They were all connected via Bluetooth.
He and Bruce had heard every word Uri said to Carl through the Bluetooth.
If it weren't illegal, the scalpel in his hand would have already slit the bastard's throat.
This kind of scum was wasting air just by living!
Uri's heart was twisted with insane jealousy.
When he had lost power.
Not one of the people behind him had firmly stood by his side.
James was just a bastard child.
What right did he have?
What right did he have to be Mia's unwavering choice!
What right did he have to have a group of loyal friends willing to go through fire and water for him without hesitation!
"Once I take over the Smith Group, let's see how long your backbone lasts!"
Uri laughed coldly.
You all have countless ties of interest with the Smith Family.
Without us, you wouldn't have achieved what you have today.
The first thing he would do after taking over would be to teach them a lesson.
Imperial City didn't just belong to their few families.
"Leave!"
Uri knew he couldn't take Mia away now.
But James was already dead.
There would be plenty of time ahead.
He didn't mind waiting a few more days.
Right now they could still protect Mia, but when they couldn't protect themselves, she would beg him to take her!
"Bastard, I'm afraid you won't be leaving alone. If you want to leave, you'll need to go with the police."
Louis leaned against the car, his smile not reaching his eyes.
As soon as he finished speaking, the sound of police sirens echoed in the distance.
The sirens grew louder as the police arrived.
The officers took Uri and his men directly into the patrol car.
Mia and the others watched as they were all taken away.
They knew it was likely just going through the motions.
But for now, being able to make Uri uncomfortable was the most Louis could do.
From the beginning, Uri hadn't been involved in this setup.
It had all been done by Orla.
"Mia, Bruce is already heading this way with the search and rescue team. James will definitely be okay!"
"Yes, he'll definitely be okay!"
Mia nodded heavily.
She turned to look at the sea , which with the deepening night looked more and more like a gaping abyss.
This was the first time she realized how small humans were in the face of nature.
"Daddy will definitely come back."
Pax lay in the car, his voice equally firm.
Hearing the hopeful tone in Pax's voice, Mia's nose stung.
Forcefully suppressing the bitterness in her heart, she turned around and stroked Pax's head. "Yes, Daddy will definitely come back."
"Mia, leave this to us. Let Carl take you and Pax back first."
Louis was most familiar with Mia.
"Okay."
Mia didn't insist on staying.
She really wanted to stay and search with them, but she knew that she wasn't a professional and staying would only be a hindrance.
More importantly, she still had Pax.
Pax's psychological state was fragile.
He had only recently recovered, and had already experienced Dennis's disappearance.
Fortunately, James could fill some of that void, easing Pax's sadness.
But now, James's fate was also uncertain.
Carl glanced at Mia.
Having initially looked down on her, he now respected her more and more.
He hated women who were wishy-washy about important matters and cried at every little thing.
Not only were they unable to help, but they also got in the way.
"Louis, I'm entrusting James to you all."
"James is our brother too."
That one sentence was enough.
Mia said no more and opened the car door to get in.
Pax immediately climbed into her arms and hugged her.
Carl also opened the car door and got in. "I'll be back shortly."
After calling out to Louis, Carl drove away.
He personally took Mia and Pax home.
His men and Dennis's team together carefully screened Mia's home and the surrounding area. After confirming it was safe, Carl said, "I'll l leave a group of people to protect you."
"No need, I have people here."
In front of Pax, Mia didn't say much.
Earlier, from the bodyguards' expressions, she had vaguely sensed something.
She didn't want to mention Dennis in front of Pax.
She was afraid that if something had really happened to Dennis and Pax found out, the boy wouldn't be able to handle it.
Carl had also noticed the situation.
Although only two bodyguards had come with them, when he had brought his men to screen the surroundings, he clearly sensed others in the shadows.
He didn't sense any hostility from them.
So he guessed they were Dennis's people, left behind to protect Pax.
With Dennis's bodyguards there, he felt comfortable taking his men away.
They all shared the same idea.
One more person meant one more hope.
Carl said nothing more and left .
The bodyguards each took their positions at their designated corners.
With danger lurking everywhere , they had to stay by Pax's side to ensure his and Mia's safety.
Mia had no appetite at all, but she still ordered takeout.
Pax was usually a very picky eater, but today he was very well-behaved.
Even though the food wasn't to his taste, he obediently shoveled rice and side dishes into his mouth.
Only after filling his stomach did he put down his utensils.
To set an example for Pax, Mia ate as usual even though she couldn't taste anything.
After they finished eating, Mia cleaned up.
"Mom, I want to go to Daddy's place."
Pax pulled Mia's hand.
On this first night without James, he already missed him terribly.
"Okay."
Mia opened the door to James's home.
Although she had never entered the code , she guessed he was using the password from Luxe Haven.
She entered it correctly and opened the door.
As the door opened, James's scent rushed toward them.
Pax's eyes reddened.
He sniffled.
Pax didn't let himself cry.
"Mom, can we sleep at Daddy's place tonight?"
"Okay."
Pax was very sad.
But he was very well-behaved.
"Mom, I'm going to take a bath."
It was getting late. He needed to eat and sleep properly.
When James came back and saw him, he wouldn't worry.
Pax went to the bathroom by himself.
Everything in the house was prepared. After Pax finished bathing and came out in his pajamas.
Mia took his hand and walked into James's bedroom.
Pax lifted the covers and lay down, burying his little face in the pillow and taking a deep breath.
This was James's scent.
Pax's eyes reddened.
He choked up, "Mom, I really regret not calling him Daddy sooner."
"Actually, I accepted him a long time ago."
Pax was truly sad.
Large tears rolled from his eyes.
Mia's heart twisted into a knot. She reached out to hold Pax, wiping away his tears and comforting him. "Baby, it's okay. Everyone is helping to find Daddy. Daddy will be back soon."
"When Daddy comes back, you can call him Daddy, and he'll definitely be very happy to hear it."
"Okay!"
Pax roughly raised his hand to wipe away the tears on his face.
"Mom, I'll be good. When Daddy comes back, I'll tell him I love him very much."
"Daddy wants to hear me call him Daddy, I'll call him that many, many times, as long as Daddy comes back."
As he spoke, his eyes reddened again.
"Daddy will definitely come back."
Mia's tone was extremely firm, not letting Pax overthink.
Pax trusted Mia very much. Hearing her words, he nodded heavily.
"Be good, baby. Sleep well."
She kissed his little face and patted his back until Pax fell asleep. Only then did Mia breathe a sigh of relief.
She was actually very worried that Pax, having witnessed the explosion with his own eyes, wouldn't be able to handle it and would have an episode.
"James, our son is amazing, isn't he? You're his father, you must be even more amazing!"
So you'll definitely come back safely, right?
Mia sat by the bed, silently asking in her heart.
No one answered her.
After Pax fell into a deep sleep, Mia didn't dare leave.
She stayed by Pax's side the whole time, but couldn't sleep at all.
Her back against the headboard, Mia stared blankly out the window, waiting for news from Louis and the others about the search.
Every second felt like a year!
...
Uri's trip to the police station was just going through the motions.
Louis's connections worked on ordinary people, but didn't have much effect on Uri.
He made a few phone calls on the way. By the time he reached the police station entrance, he hadn't even gone inside before being respectfully escorted to his car.
Sitting in the car, Uri looked at the trending topics he had bought.
Bruce and the others were having people reduce the heat.
But they had mobilized too many people, searching for James like finding a needle in a haystack by the sea. The discussion kept growing, and the heat couldn't be suppressed at all.
James's explosion and fall into the sea.
From initially being described as fate uncertain, to now more likely dead than alive.
The death of the Smith Group's head.
When the market opened tomorrow morning, the Smith Group's stock index would definitely plummet.
Before the market opened, he would make a high-profile appearance.
As the Smith Family heir, he would take over the Smith Group again and stabilize the situation.
Back then, James had been able to stage a car accident and seize power from him.
Now, he would use the same method to take it back.
The difference was, he could still make a comeback, while James would have to wait for his next life.
"Has Orla been dealt with?"
Uri glanced at the subordinate beside him.
"Seriously injured, unconscious, being protected by Carl's people."
"Useless."
Uri's expression darkened.
But he quickly calmed down.
Fox was in his hands. Even if Orla survived, she wouldn't dare play any tricks.
Not a threat.
Once he took over the Smith Group and dealt with Carl and the others.
Got Mia.
Dealing with Orla would be no different from crushing an ant.
"Return to the Smith Villa."
"Yes!"
The car drove through the night toward the Smith Villa.
...
Mia's residence.
As Mia waited anxiously, every second feeling like a year, her phone suddenly rang.
