Into The Fray
Into The Fray
\[Pandora’s POV\]
Chihara and Pei’s voices come and go as I work to stay conscious. It’s clear that they’re trying to figure out what their next move should be, but neither can agree on anything.
This is going to end up getting us caught. I think to myself while knowing I wouldn’t be able to say it out loud. We need to get moving.
As this thought hits, I blink away the black spots that are dancing in front of my eyes and find that the roof above our heads is at least moving.
Good. It was good to know that they had the right minds to be on the move while they argued, but where exactly were we going? Were we heading out of Onyx Moon territory entirely, and if we were, where exactly would we be going?
Would we return to Crimson Moon, where I would once again have to wait for whatever Lux and Alpha Alexander were thinking would take place?
I didn’t want to do that. I didn’t have the time for that. I would be returning to my time before it would take place.
“Please,” I rasp, drawing Pei’s gaze to mine. “We can’t leave.”
“Are you out of your mind?” Chihara demands before Pei can say much of anything. “Do you know that we are now being hunted?”
“We have to defeat Lux.” I push.
I’m sure that they think these are just the mindless ramblings of someone close to death, but it was my only purpose. Since being freed from the slave auctions until now, my only goal was to avenge those I loved, and if I let him go now, I wouldn’t do that.
“She has gone crazy.” Chihara sighs. “Don’t listen to her. If you do, she is going to get you killed.”
“She’s right.” Pei agrees. “I understand that you want to defeat the one that did this to you, but…”
“That isn’t it!” I hiss, drawing on all the strength I have left. “That isn’t it at all. We need…”
I don’t get to finish my words before the sound of footfalls reaches us, and when I turn my gaze in the direction they are coming from, I feel relief slam into me.
“Lucian,” I whisper as he rushes toward us with my father, Owen, Victor, and a few others following closely behind him. “It’s you.”
“I’m here,” he tells me, not even hesitating to take me from Pei. “I’m here.”
Nodding, I snuggle into his arms, taking comfort from the warmth that I feel, but before I can get lost in it, I feel something new, something strong, press against me.
“You’ve gotten your wolf.” I murmur, lifting my gaze to his to find that it is filled with fury. “What?”
“Who did this?” He growls, and I know he’s talking about my condition.
“Lux,” I tell him, and I hear snarls rip from the throats of those with him, and when my father appears and snatches me from his arms, I can feel the bloodlust dripping from him.
“Owen,” he says, turning to my teacher. “Take her back to Crimson Moon and treat her injuries.”
“No!” I gasp, understanding what he plans. “I want…”
“Listen to your father.” Lucian tells me. “You won’t be able to do anything in your condition.”
“What about you?” I demand. “You still haven’t fully healed.”
“I’ll be fine.” He tells me. “Anyway, this has always been my fight from the very start.”
Opening my mouth, I prepare to argue, but before I can, more dizziness hits me and the black spots return.
“Get going, Owen.” My father says, passing me to the man. “And if you let anything happen to her, I’ll kill you.”
\[Lucian’s POV\]
“Yes, Alpha.”
Owen’s voice is even as he responds to Pandora’s father’s command, and when I look to Pandora, I find that she is more than ready to continue arguing. However, she doesn’t, and I can almost see the last bit of strength she has mustered disappearing.
“We will return soon.” I tell her, drawing her gaze to me. “And I promise that we will return victorious.”
“Mmmm.”
It’s all she says before her eyes flutter shut, and I feel a wave of both fear and relief rush into me.
Although it was clear that she was badly injured, I also knew that she was in good hands. There was no way that Owen or anyone back at Crimson Moon would let anything more happen to her, and I took great comfort in that.
“We need to continue moving.” Pandora’s father says, reminding me of the reason we were all here. “I’m sure that the enemy is on full alert now that Pandora has been rescued, so be ready for anything.”
“Yes, Alpha.”
The warriors’ voices travel around us, sending waves of excitement and expectation through the tunnel around us, and despite myself I can’t stop the adrenaline that starts pumping through me.
“Let’s go.”
It’s all he says before motioning for me to continue leading them in the direction of Onyx Moon’s packhouse.
I nod and start to shift, deciding that it was better to be in my wolf form compared to my human. As I do, Pei and Chihara, also in their wolf forms, fall into step with me, while Pandora’s father and his men start to shift and then follow.
Together, we move through the tunnels until finally we reach their exits, and when we arrive, I’m not surprised to see many wolves waiting.
Letting out a howl, I rush forward, focusing on the one closest to me, and when we connect, I bury my teeth deep into him, allowing his blood to erupt on my tongue and teeth.
A snarl of rage escapes him as he starts to chomp at me, but I stay out of the way, dodging each of his attacks while landing more blows of my own, and when I get the chance, I wrap my teeth around his neck and snap it.
Releasing him, I watch in satisfaction while he collapses and remains unmoving. He would be one less bastard for me to worry about when the time came to take over Onyx Moon, and soon most of those who would oppose me would be gone.
Feeling like a bright future wasn’t so out of reach, I turn my gaze to another wolf, and then I attack, and like that, I move, attacking, killing, and eliminating those who stand in the way of me and Lux, who was the only one that I wanted to kill.
Once we’ve cleared the tunnel’s exit, we move into Onyx Moon, where another battle is waging. From what I could see, my people were holding their own against my father and Lux’s people, but I knew full well that things could change instantly, and because of that, I needed to get to Lux quickly.
I’m going ahead. I think, turning my gaze to Pandora’s father, who is busy fighting two opponents at once. Good luck. Sure, I know that he is unable to hear me, but when our eyes meet briefly, he gives me a nod, and I know that he understands what it is that I’m about to do.
