Chapter 50

Chapter 50
Nyra's POV

I felt a little better after the tea last night, but another tension grew within me. I was going to go to work and that too, to reassure myself of my stay at a camp that I wasn't sure I needed to be in.

My palms sweated as I sat on the passenger seat of the car, watching Fiona ride to the office. I was tense but too quiet to let it show. I simply blinked slowly as I looked out the window letting thoughts that didn't matter flood my mind.

Fiona swerved right and that made me shake in my seat. It took two more swerves for me to acknowledge that she was trying to get my attention, but I sighed heavily.

Fiona sighed as we approached the office.

“Oh Tina,” she purred. “I really want to know what happened between you and Finn last night.”

I was more worried about how she knew about the dinner me and Finn had. I held myself back from asking, instead I made a face that clearly showed how discomforted I was.

Someone was spying on me or spying on Finn and if it was me, then it was not good.

“Yup,” she added. “I also heard you guys went to dinner.”

“No wonder you mentioned him last night,” I muttered under my breath. If she hadn't known about the dinner, then there wouldn't have been a conclusion that he was involved in my mood.

“What?” She didn't seem to hear.

“I said, I never knew humans were this nosy,” obviously talking about what she knew, I also knew she wasn't in the office when I left. No personal spy is probably watching me right now.

“Oh please,” she rolled her eyes, “like you don't have some of that trait too.”

“If only I was human,” I almost said out loud.

“When we get to the office, don't even spare him a glance, okay?”

I wasn't planning on talking to Finn, it would make things more awkward than they were. The way I had lashed out at him, I knew it was only normal for humans to express themselves.

Exhaling lightly, it was for the best, for his safety.

“He's not the cause of my problems, Fiona,” I said.

She scoffed along with a small laugh.

“Well, whatever it is, Tina, solve it.” Saying dismissively, “You make me want to cry every time I look at you,” she pouted.

I rolled my eyes and turned to her, holding a fake smile where my teeth were visible.

“How about now?”

Fiona smiled.
“Hmm better”

We got to the office and I didn't care if anyone saw me leaving Fiona's car. After all, my personal spy had already told everyone my whereabouts, whether I was staying at Fiona's was no longer breaking news.

The office looked packed, everyone wanted to go to this camp but not me. I walked up to my office cubicle wishing I could disappear.

After the blood moon, then I would be free, maybe finally realize what was actually wrong with me.

As I rummaged through my thoughts. I caught the scent of Ella immediately when she came around my desk.

“Hey Tina,” she sang out loud.

“Oh hey Ella,” I tried to lighten up my mood to avoid any other questions.

“How's the hey-I’m-a-Vogue-designer life going on?” She cleared my desk and sat on it.

“Causing me hallucinations,” I replied.

“That can't be so bad,” she brushed her hair behind her ear.

“Oh really,” I arched my brows. “It seems like you know what it feels like,” trying so hard not to sound the way I felt.

“Nope, but I do know it must feel like heaven staying at the CEO's house.”

Arrgghh. I badly wanted to ask how she was so sure about it, since if I had ever mentioned about Fiona it would be just once.

“Soooo, I've asked you this before, and I’m going to ask you again?” She looked at me and back in the room. “What's going on with you and Mr Finn?”

I clicked my tongue against my teeth, sucking in some air to kill the pressing anger building up.

“Where do you get this info from?”

“Why? You don't think it's obvious. I mean he has been staring at you from his side of the office. It's hard not to notice."

I rolled my eyes for the second time. I hadn't seen Finn since I came in. If he was watching me, then it would be in secret.

“Nothing is going on,” I said.

“Yeah right, till you all get married?” she squealed.
I looked away slowly, already tired of explaining, but just as I thought of replying to her, Fiona's personal secretary walked in and informed us about the camp and how we needed to be in the cafeteria during lunch time for proper addressing.

After she said what she needed to say and walked out. I blinked back some dust in my eyes.

“Are they really serious?” The realization hit me as fast as it arrived.

“Unreal, right?” Ella squealed, her expression wasn't different from the rest.

“Yeah, more like unserious, why would anyone want to watch the eclipse?”
I asked, her head snapped towards me as if I had just said something prohibited.

“Really? Why would anyone want to watch an eclipse?” Her hands rested on her hips.

“It's a question”
I shrugged

“Pfftt you sound boring, it's just for the fun of it, some of them think they could get insights.”

Insights? From the moon?
I hated to think that the universe just hated me.

“That's just stupid,” I crossed my arms, and she did as well, but with a slight frown.

“Why? Don't you want to come?” she asked.

“Can I not come?” I asked with hope that glistened in my eyes.

“Of course not,” she laughed it off, “and there's this money you pay if you're not around, and I know vogue hasn't paid you so much, baby girl.”

She stepped down from my desk then planted a quick kiss on my forehead.

“You just have to be there.”

I sighed heavily, I had to figure out ways to survive the so called camp, but deep down, I already knew the eclipse would not just expose secrets, it would demand a sacrifice.
