Chapter 45

Chapter 45
Nyra's POV

As I took the bus to work, I thought of designs I could make do with, but nothing came to mind. I got to the office early, but not early enough not to come across the vogue super advisor.

“Oh, there you are.”

An unfamiliar lady wearing square-like glasses came up to me with a curt smile, which I guess she is.

“Good morning, Miss Fisher… I get that you got the message," she readjusted her glasses, “Our team was trying to reach you, but we ended up reaching out to Miss Fiona instead.”

I tried to return the smile, but it came out stiff.

“Yeah, I did get the message, you wanted about five designs, didn't it….”

Before I could finish, I heard a small chuckle escaping from her lips, before she cleared her throat and said.

“We have a runway show in about two weeks, and we have requested twenty designs, which is the least of designs we can work with.”

She held her smile still, in a way that I'd wanted to make it disappear. It made me clench my fist as I watched her make her request with a smile on her face.

“Oh right," I said.

“Yeah, you don't need to be too formal about it, we need designs the model can wear on a casual day. It could be anything," she informed.

“That's fine, it's better that I have something to work with.”

“It's Vogue darling, you always have something to work with," she smiled again before she left.

I turned to my desk, my fingers combing through my hair out of frustration. I stared at the sketchbook and then at the clock on the wall. My dream job was about to end and it would be all my fault.

“Good morning, Miss Tina”, a familiar voice interrupted my thoughts. I turned and it was Finn as always.

“Oh, you're here.”

I knew he wasn't picked for the vogue designers.

“I'm here to supervise,” he said, as if he had read my mind. “Hope you're okay with that.”

“Yeah, whatever,” I said in a dismissive tone but soon realized myself. “I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that.”

“No, it's okay," he chuckled dryly. “Everyone has an attitude on the first day of actual work.”

“Thanks for understanding”

I knew something was wrong with me and I knew it wouldn't end with pains in my joint and an uncontrolled urge. Now it was my tone and the swift shift of emotions.

I inhaled some air and let it out slowly…

Finn left and went to attend to the others and, suddenly, I felt alone. Although I was anxious about his presence, he was also the only one who had actually spoken to me and was friendly regardless.

I stared blankly at my sketchbook. One book, one scribble, two scribbles, I tore the sketchbook page by page till I had given up. The designs I had in my head were less than casual, and they weren't what Vogue needed.

I sighed heavily.

But suddenly, I felt his presence again.

“Are you having trouble with all of this?” he asked curtly.

I didn't think it was obvious.

“I just… I wasn't really prepared for all this," I tried to say and dismissed him at the same time.

But instead, he leaned forward.

“Can I get you some samples? Perhaps that will help”

I did want some samples, but I didn't think it would actually do anything anymore.

“Yeah.” I could only say.

Finn went and brought back a paper full of samples. Sketch samples that I wished I had thought of.

“Can you work with this?” he asked.

“Sure, something like this could do," I lied.

“Well, there you have it,” he smiled. “This is the exact theme of the runaway, and you would be fine if you followed this pattern,” he added.

I exhaled and he noticed.

“Oh shit, you can't do that, can you?”

I scoffed immediately.

“Of course, I do,” tucking my hair behind my ear as I got ready to sketch.

“You don't know what to do right?” There was confidence he had and I suddenly snapped.

“Ahh, of course I don't. I do fashion styling, I don't sketch!” I paused, “Oh my God, I'm so sorry, I meant…”

I apologized too many times…

“It's fine, I get it.” He said.

“No," I shook my head, even though I still felt agitated, which increased when his hands came up to my shoulder.

“You know what, here's an idea. How about you design and I sketch?”

Though his hands were making me uncomfortable, I still managed to turn to him.

“Huh”, genuinely confused,

“You said you can design, right? Style clothes. We all did. How about you style the mannequins while I sketch them out?”

“Oh”, I processed.

This was brilliant.

After sometime, I styled some mannequins, and it turned out good, and I did some more till I had completed twenty of them.

“It's done," Finn stretched out his arms and wrapped them around me. The second he had sketched the last one.

But suddenly my canines started to elongate, and my claws were forced out.

I pulled out of the hug before he did, but he didn't seem to notice.

Instead, he started to talk.

I noticed my veins starting to pump in between his small inaudible talk. I knew he was about to say something before I abruptly stood up. I had to go before someone else saw the veiny hands and noticed.

Excuse me.

I left for the restroom immediately to calm down, and I washed my face. I stared at my reflection in the mirror. It made me sigh.

“What is happening to me?” I said softly. I should go to Ethan, he would know what was wrong with me, or somehow have a clue, since he was a werewolf who clearly had a wolf.

I took some minutes more before I headed back and already decided to make phone calls for the appointment tomorrow. I tried to compose myself, to calm down and at least let the canines subside and when they did, I stepped out of the restroom.

As I returned to the office, Finn was still sitting right there.

“Are you okay, you seem flustered?” he remarked, studying my face.

“It's fine, I'm fine”, I said.

“Oh okay,” he bit the end of his lips as he added. “Well, I was wondering if you would like to go for dinner tomorrow."

I have to be in Fiona's boyfriend's hospital tomorrow.

“Yeah, sure”

Even though I wasn't sure, even though there was a high chance that, during dinner, I might do something wolf-like if I don't find out what was going on with me, something I could no longer hide, something that might finally, violently, reveal exactly what I am.
