Chapter 33

Chapter 33
Rowan’s POV

“Do you think we should continue with the event?” Brian asked as he was quite concerned about the way Lucan had left the entire room empty of any energy whatsoever. “Everyone's waiting for your orders.”

At that point, I didn't want to carry on with any of that, but then, I had no option but to, as the guests were already there and all the ladies had spent most of the time getting ready for that moment.

“I think we should proceed. But then, we need to keep the security tight at all times. I don't know how Lucan managed to get in, but I don't want anything of that sort to happen again.” I felt disrespected by the way he had stepped in like he was strolling into yet another of his buildings. “Make everywhere airtight.”

“I think I can help out with that.” Ronan stood from his seat, forcing a smile on his face like he was playing a comedy show in his head. He didn't look like he was moved or concerned by any of Lucan’s threats to us and that annoyed me immensely as his nonchalance was just unbearable. “You all sit back and enjoy the show while I'm gone.”

“Don't worry, I've got it covered.” Brian spoke up like one who was being challenged and that wasn't looking good at all. “I should be the one running around while both of you have to enjoy the show and make your choice, and eventually make a choice of the woman you want.”

“Are we going to start this conversation here?” I was already tired from everything that had happened and from the innumerable questions going on in my head at the moment. “What's the matter, Ronan? Just let the man do his job.”

“Well…you are both Alpha and beta, so if anyone needs to run around, it's the one with no title whatsoever to his name.” Ronan insisted as he was bent on not taking any form of defeat. Not even in a minor argument like the one happening right there in front of the alphas and guests. “So, if you'd excuse me, Alpha and beta… I'd like to go and…”

“Just go…” I said, as I was already tired of the back and forth we were having because of all that. “I think we have more problems to deal with than this.”

“Thanks a lot, Alpha…” Ronan said as he walked away with a victorious theme in his walking step and that seemed to get on Brian's nerves in ways that he couldn't conceal.

“Just let it go…” I said to Brian as I was focused on making that moment pass by already. There were so many things from Lucan’s speech that kept me thinking for quite a while.

Most especially, the unfinished business with my father. I couldn't stop thinking about that as it kept popping up in my head at every slight turning. Then was his unexplained interest in Nyra. Now I couldn't wait to continue my search for her as I was sure I wasn't the only one who was chasing her.

“He really acts suspicious at times. I don't think we should let that dude walk around freely without men watching his moves night and day. He's just a scandal waiting to happen,” Brian said, as he struggled to make himself comfortable in his seat.

“That won't stop him from doing any crazy stuff.” I sighed as I had my eyes on the door at the other end of the room, waiting for who the next person to step through it would be. “Let's just get this over with. What's keeping them?”

“I'll send word over to them to hurry up.” Brian was about to get up, but then the door opened slightly, causing the room to go quiet. “Wow…” not even Brian could conceal how amazed he was by the beauty who had just walked in.

I was trying to place which of the packs she was from, but my mind was caught up in so much at once. She distracted me from my thoughts as her unusual beauty seemed somewhat intentional, and was aimed at capturing my heart instantly.

That made me reinforce my emotions. If I was going to be that easy to please, then I could possibly end up falling in love with all the girls who would show up that day. I had to maintain a strict standard that would be hard to measure up to.

“Looks like we are already staring at the winner…” Brian joked. “If you make this choice, it's surely going to cause an uproar among these Alphas.”

“Yeah…” I said as I was beginning to remember the girl who had conversed with me at the start of the event. I was really anxious to see what she was going to do when her turn came.

“Well…” Brian cleared his throat to bring me back into the moment, as I had been a bit clueless when she reached the throne. “I think you should focus more on the moment.” He whispered.

“So…” I was completely clueless about what I was supposed to say to her. It was the first time I would be doing a thing like that, and it couldn't get any weirder than that. “What's your name?”

“I am Rose, from the…”

I wasn't in the moment at all even as I was focused on not letting her enchanting beauty get to me just yet. There was no way I could let her get past me so easily.

“Uhm…at this point, you're supposed to ask her about her special abilities. Are you alright, Rowan?” Brian asked, calling me back into the moment. “Don't sweat it so much… you still have other girls to look at.”

“Yeah…” I was hoping they didn't cast some sort of spell on the make-up they used on the girls. “So… Rose, what's your special ability…?” I took a couple of deep breaths just to make sure that I was still on track at the moment.

She smiled with the intention of luring. “Killing alphas…”
