Chapter 39 Chapter 39

Chapter 39 Chapter 39

ADRIANA'S POV

"Why so hostile, dear Daciana?" Donovan said with a smirk on his face. He entered the room like he owned the place, his eyes on Daciana. He didn't stop until he got to the bed, then he got on it, resting his back on the headrest and crossing his legs at the angel. His legs were on the bed!

"I came to check on our patient." He finally acknowledged me. He lifted a hand and gave a small wave. "Hello sweetheart, did you miss me?" I glared at him internally, not having the guts to do it out in the open. I've seen what he is capable of, I know not to mess with him. Because if I think Xander is bad, then Donovan is worse.

"You know Xander would skin you alive if he saw you anywhere near her." Daciana said, standing in front of me so she could block his view of me. Still, I could feel his hateful gaze on me. It made me feel even smaller than the room made me feel at first. Donovan didn't have to try to be scary, he was naturally intimidating.

"Oh, I'm very scared." He said, his tone dripping with sarcasm while he waved his hand in the air like a little girl. He dropped it all of a sudden and a serious look overtook his features. I risked a glance by looking up and when he noticed me looking at him, he smirked.

"Oh, don't be so scared baby doll, I don't plan on breaking you." His voice was sweet, I didn't fall for it. "Xander will do that for me." his voice turned cold, his smile cruel.

"Enough. Get out!" Daciana pointed to the door and growled. He rolled his eyes and laid back down. She cursed and stepped forward, I almost reached out to drag her back but she was so much faster than I expected. She had left before I could blink or even think of reacting. I've seen how cunning he is and I didn't want her to get hurt.

Maybe I was using her trust for me to get out of here, but I wasn't deliberately hurting her. I also knew Xander wouldn't hurt his sister, it was more than obvious he loved her.

Speaking of which, I heard the growl, low and threatening, which made me look up. Said person was standing by the door, he'd taken off the hoodie and was just in the t-shirt which hugged his body. Sticking to him like they were made together.

"Oh, here the big bad alpha comes." Donovan announced in a cherry voice, the same time we heard Xander's angry bellow. "Get out!" I trembled at the loud bass of his voice. His obvious anger wasn't directed at me but I was even more scared than the man whom he was growling at.

Donovan looked the least bit bothered by Xander and his anger. The latter stalked toward the bed, where Donovan was still lying carelessly. "I won't repeat myself." He said this time, his voice low but no less strong than when he'd yelled.

"Don't get your panties in a twist, I didn't touch your little bitch." I didn't even feel offended by the insult. As long as he wasn't close to me, then I remained a very happy person. "And don't forget your deal with me. You're paying up soon." he grumbled before shoving Xander with his shoulder and storming out of the room. I wondered what deal he was talking about.

When we were sure he was out of the room, Xander turned. He had a frustrated look on his face. He looked at Daciana briefly before his eyes turned to me. They softened when they landed on me, though it didn't make me feel any safer than when it was Donovan that was there.

"I'll be waiting in the study when you're done here." was all he said before he also left. The double doors closing behind him. "Come, let's get you to the tub before your water gets cold." Daciana came back to my side and steered the wheelchair toward the bathroom. I didn't know what to tell her except nod. The bathroom was almost as big as the room, with a large Victorian styled tub in the middle. It was modernized to look like a Jacuzzi but was still a tub. Like I had smelled, rose petals were scattered in the filled tub, the scenting water even better now that I was closer to it. I really couldn't wait to get in.

The bathroom had a whole wall that was a mirror, a counter in front of it. There was a sort of transparent looking door but I couldn't really see the inside, I've never seen the type anywhere, on the other side of the room. I guess it held the towels and other stuff like that. The toilet bowl was in the farthest part of the bathroom. There was a shower stall on one side, closer to the tub, with multiple buttons that I knew I was going to hate when I had to operate them. Not for long. I reminded myself, I wouldn't be here long enough to worry about that.

"Let me help you." I shook my head, not wanting to bother her any more. "No, you don't have to do that. You've already helped me with so much." I said, letting her see the gratitude in my eyes. Daciana though didn't seem bothered, she only gave her hand a little wave then came to stand in front of me. "Nonsense. I'll help you, you need it. Come on, please don't argue with me on this." I nodded and muttered a small okay, accepting her help.

She helped me undo the ties of the hospital gown. I wasn't really comfortable with nudity, which was weird, wolves who saw a lot of it because of their shifts and all. I wasn't really allowed to hang out with them and since I didn't shift, I didn't have to be naked a lot, especially around other people. Daciana understood I was finding it strange a little so she tapped my hand and pointed to the door.

"I'll be back there when you're done. The maid will bring you a change of clothes and help you out when you're done." She motioned to the wheelchair. I nodded, remembering I was there. "Can I?" I nodded when she pointed at the chair. Since she still believed I couldn't move myself, she had to help me out of it and put me in the tub.

Again, she lifted me like a weighed nothing and deposited me in the tub, keeping me on the edge so I wouldn't get the hospital gown wet. Not that it was going to be used again, but I sure as hell didn't want it anywhere near my bath water. I was running away from that

hospital stench.

Dacaina walked out and closed the bathroom door behind her, I waited until I heard the bedroom door click close before I took the gown off completely and lowered myself fully into the tub. The change of temperature from the chilly one in the room to the very hot one of the water was welcome. I sighed in relief when every part of me felt the pleasantness of the hot water.

I stayed there for a very long while, until the water started getting cold. I'd heard when the maid entered, she asked if I was done with the bath but I wasn't ready to get out so I told her to go, I'll be able to help myself out. She looked doubtful but something must have convinced her since she left. When I felt like I was ready to leave, I washed my hair, which hasn't seen any water since I left my father's pack. On the day I met Xander was the last time, to be precise.

Since they wanted me to look presentable, they'd had someone wash it for me and oiled it with essential oils. I found a vanilla shampoo in the bathroom and just used it. The maid had kept two towels for me on the edge of the tub, where it would be easy for me to get without stressing myself. She also thought I couldn't walk.

I stood up and tied one towel over my head then another around my body, covering my nakedness. I sat on the edge of the tub, my legs still in the now lukewarm water while I looked around. There was a single window in the bathroom, but it was too high up for me to be able to reach. Talk more about climbing out of. I decided it wasn't going to be part of my plan. I had to find another way to get out of the

estate.

It couldn't be through the tunnel. I knew Xander definitely had guards guarding them, or had even locked them. He wouldn't make a mistake like that. I reminded myself of how smart he was. If I was going to leave under their noses, then my plan has to be full proof. And fast, I needed to find a way to get out here fast.

I was too deep in thought that I didn't hear the door open, I jumped when the looming figure stood by the door. He was still in the t- shirt, his hair messy from running his hands through it. I looked down at my basically bare thighs, I wanted to pull the towel and cover myself but I was too scared to move.

Xander, noticing that, stepped further into the bathroom, his movements were slow. Almost like he was approaching his prey, that was how I felt. I've always known he was the predator, and me? I was always the prey.
