Chapter 32: I Have Never Love You

Sophie

Mother turned his gaze to Gabriel who was fuming at this point, I really wanted to do something. I felt as though things were going to escalate really quick. If my mother dies today, it would all be because of me.

“You like playing these games, don't you Gabriel? You will only have the chance to kill me when you escape from me.” She retorted as she began to target Gabriel whose eyes widened at her sudden behavior.

Even though I was shocked, my mother never stood up like him, so now, I was really scared.

“You wouldn't dare to do that, Maria. So, I would like to see you try.”

“This is not a challenge Gabriel, I am desperate here. I am trying to save my daughter from something that could potentially ruin her life forever. Give her back to me and then I will just put the gun down.”

“Sophie's life is not going to get ruined, Maria. You have just got to understand this from my point of view. Please, darling, just put the gun down, you wouldn't shoot your husband over something like this.” Gabriel continued with his pep talk but I knew that this was not going to convince mother. She was right, she was desperate and so was I. This was my only chance.

“It doesn't matter if you are my husband or not, what comes first in my heart is my daughter that you happen to neglect. I love more than you do, so let her go.” She began to tremble.

“If you don't let her go, I will shoot your brain out, just like how you threatened me.”

I glanced over my shoulder to see my father losing his patience by the second, he rolled his fists into a ball and clenched his teeth. I could tell he had given up and really wanted to instruct his men to just fire but he knew he couldn't, that was his own wife threatening him in front of everyone. It was embarrassing.

“And then what? You both run away? You know, Maria, you can't run away from me because I will find you everywhere you go.”

My mother looked back at me before she returned her to Gabriel who stood there impatiently. She firmly held her gun and tried her best to keep herself on her feet as pain was evident in her face. I was standing in the middle watching all of these unfold, bouncing my eyes back and forth and praying to god that nothing happens. Nathan just tightened his grip on my wrist to draw me back from reaching her.

“The only thing that is stopping me is you and I hated to do this, Gabriel. But you made things so complicated for us the day you decided to build this empire that did nothing for us.” She began to cry and it shattered me.

Gabriel decided to join the mafia, leaving mother to suffer from the consequences he would bring to this family, she did a lot to keep us safe from his wrong doings but he didn't consider the safety of his family for a second, instead, he returned back to the mafia would only to come back with more danger in his hands.

“And I am sorry, Maria.” He muttered.

“Now, will you please cut this crap and put the gun away, I really don't want to do anything that will hurt you.”

“Gabriel Cooper, the only thing that I can do right now is place a bullet in your head because change doesn't matter to you at all.” She spat at him and my eyes widened.

“Go to hell, gabriel. Go to hell!”

“You wouldn't..” he shook his head as disbelief was evident on his face.

“Maria, no, please don't do anything. I will send my men away.” He said as he began to Instruct his men to leave.

I thought my mother would heed to his instructions but to my surprise, she didn't. She picked up the gun again and aimed it at Gabriel who shook with fear and that was when I began to fight myself off Nathan, I needed to stop her. If she fired that gun, it would cause havoc, our deaths.

“I am sorry, I love you.” She said, Nathan finally let go of my wrist but it was too late, the bullet was already fired. My eyes were closed while my arms covered my ears.

I opened my eyes and removed my arms from my ears to see on my left that Gabriel was on the floor with a pool of blood under him. The pool of blood expands as the second goes by and my body froze. Was he dead? I turned my gaze back to the mother who stood at the center of the church and immediately, my heart shattered again when I saw how much she cried. I returned my gaze to Gabriel and saw that he was heavily injured, that was when Nathan approached him and his other men. This was my chance to run away. I turned to my mother and picked her up from the floor.

“Let's go, mother.” I whispered, she stood up on her feet and grabbed my hands before she headed for the exit. I glanced over my shoulder one last time to see what she saw from the point and I was definitely convinced that Gabriel would not be able to make it out alive.

Honestly, I had no idea what to feel about this situation, it was no lie that I felt any type of remorse for him, because I didn't. This man caused hell for me in my life for the past years and to finally see him like this, possibly fighting for his life really made me feel as though we have won. It made me feel like we have taken back what was ours from Gabriel and that was our life. I didn't care one bit as I ran away from the church, I told my dress and ripped it apart to make it easier for me to run while my mother continued to run as fast as she could. I was overwhelmed at the moment that it didn't cross my mind that what would happen if Nathan noticed that we fled the scene. The thought only made my legs work at a faster pace that I nearly tripped and split my head open.

Just as my reverie had come to an end, a loud gunshot erupted from behind us and it made me jump. The sound of the birds furiously flapping their wings brought our attention as they flew towards the direction we were heading. That was definitely Nathan.

“Go and hide, Sophie. I will handle it here. Just keep running until you think it is safe enough to stop.” She said and I immediately shook my head.

“Don't worry about me, I will be fine.” She said.

I nodded my head as I whimpered before I turned to head in the other direction so she could distract them. However, as I was about to get further away from them, all my hopes of just escaping and making it out alive disappeared when Nathan somehow reached me. I shook my head as I kicked and screamed against him but all he ever did was handle me like I was nothing before he threw me onto the ground. I sat up as my eyes followed all the way up to his face, my body trembling with fear as he glared at me as if he was randy to kill me. He was standing a few steps away from us with a gun while his face was painted with pure anger, one that I certainly did recognize.

“After all I did for you, treat you like a damn queen, you decide to betray me like this? What the fuck are you playing at, Sophie?” He growled as he went down to pick me up, he grabbed my arm and pulled me up. I whimpered at the burning sensation that formed when his nails dug into my flesh.

“Let her go, Nathan!” I heard my mother yell. He clenched his jaw and rolled his eyes before he glared over his shoulder.

“Or what? You are going to shoot me dead like how you shot Gabriel?” She spat and mother charged towards us.

However, before she could get to us, his men grabbed her and stopped her from reaching us.

“I am sorry, Nathan.” I began to cry as he firmly gripped my wrists.

“I can't believe you would do such a thing to me, Sophie. I thought you fucking love me, we were meant to get married today. What the fuck!” He yelled as he began to rattle me and I just covered my ears and face with my arms.

“How can I marry you if I don't love you, Nathan?” I sobbed.

“I have never loved you, it was always Romano and it was always him.”
