Chapter 31: Please, Put The Gun Down

Sophie

The sound of continuous tapping of my foot bounced on each of these walls as it echoed, leaving my whole body to tremble with anticipation as time was ticking. This was too risky. I was startled by the sudden noise that came from the door when it opened to reveal my mother. She walked in and my focus on controlling my nerves dissipated when she approached me. My eyes instantaneously widened when she stepped forward and revealed what she held in her hand. It was a gun.

“Mother, y..you.. where did you get that from?” I suddenly felt palpitations. This is happening.

“Don't worry about that at all, Sophie. You will go down and wait for me and your father, however, before he can get down, I will somehow stall him.” She explained and I nodded my head.

“Then I will come down and take you away from here, just be prepared and don't worry about Nathan, I will deal with him as well.” She clenched her jaws as I firmly grabbed my bouquet of lilies. She turned around to leave but I stopped her to embrace her.

“Mother, what if it doesn't work?” I asked. She wrapped her arms around me firmly before she pulled away and cupped my face.

“Promise me that if none of this works out, no matter what happens, you will get out of here regardless.” She said.

“Promise me, dear.” I held her hand and closed my eyes. I didn't want to promise her anything or even imagine the unthinkable but she was right and so was I. If something was to happen, I would have to leave this place no matter what.

“Okay, but you have to promise me the same thing.” I nodded my head and frowned.

“I promise, dear.”

“I promise, mother, that I will leave regardless.”

She pulled herself away from me and then tienes to leave, my heart was so heavy and my throat as I began to feel nauseous. I had a feeling at the back of my mind that something was going to happen that would leave us in danger. I looked down at my stomach and gritted my teeth. If I die today, so will this innocent child. If only it was Romano on that alter today waiting for me.

After what felt like eternity, I was finally walking down ten sets of stairs to hell. I walked down the stairs with my head bowed down while one of the workers of the church walked me down. As I walked down approaching the aisle, I couldn't help but feel pain just swallow my whole stomach because I was so nervous. My heart palpitated as I thought about what would happen in the next few minutes, it was about to be life-changing. My mother is probably distracting Gabriel right now but all I have to do is be prepared to run. I reached the bottom of the stairs, my heart dropped to my stomach and I suddenly couldn't breathe.

I froze in my spot as I came face to face with Gabriel who stood in front of me with a smile on his face. I watched him in shock as I wondered what happened and why he was here when he should be upstairs on the floor, probably knocked out by mother or locked somewhere, away from the altar. Soon, realization hit me that he must have done something to my mother because when I looked around, she was nowhere to be seen. I began to panic as tears fell out of my eyes before I returned my gaze back to him who offered me his arm.

“Shall we, princess?” He whispered.

I gasped when I set my gaze over his shoulder because Nathan stood there waiting for me. If my mother couldn't stall Gabriel, this means that I was going to marry Nathan no matter what today. Mother's plan didn't work, so now, I was panicking as I wondered what had happened to her.

“F…father, where is mother?” I asked as I watched him.

“Don't let your useless mother stall you at your wedding, princess. She will be arriving shortly.” He said.

“Now, come on. Don't make this complicated for us and yourself.” He said but this time he sounded as though he was threatening me.

I furrowed my brows and searched the surroundings again for my mother but she wasn't here. The place was swarmed with his men and then there stood Nathan which petrified me because now there was no way out of this. If mother wasn't here, I would be dead. My arms tremble as they connect with Gabriel before we begin to walk down the aisle. Moments like this are meant to be special and exciting but unfortunately for me, it wasn't. In fact, I was in tears.

“You thought you could get away with this, huh?” He asked, I looked to my side and frowned at him. What did I do to my mother?

Once we reached the other end of the aisle, he handed me over to Nathan who took my hand in his and placed a kiss on it. I was desperate at this point because something should have happened by now. This was not part of the plan, mother was meant to get here before I reached Nathan. However, since she wasn't here, I was going to get married to him today no matter what.

“You look beautiful, Sophie.” Nathan whispered.

“I love you.” He nodded his head and blinked at me as if he was in love.

But I couldn't look at this man the way he did to me because whenever I tried to, all the things he did to me came rushing back. It makes it impossible for me to love him the way I loved Romano. The priest began to speak, I was desperately praying for my life that something would happen so this wedding does not take place today. As time was ticking, my stomach rolled and it made me feel so nauseous that I thought I was going to throw up on Nathan.

“Do you, Nathan Blake, take Sophie Cooper as your lawful wedded wife?” The priest asked.

“Yes, I do.” He replied as he turned his gaze back to me and smiled.

“Do you, Sophie Cooper, take Nathan Blake as your lawful wedded husband?”

My heart hammered against my chest as I looked over my shoulder one last time to see if there were any signs of my mother but she wasn't here to save me from this. Tears slid out of my eyes, why did I ever think of escaping was possible?

“I..I..do.” I whimpered, my eyes closed tightly and goosebumps appeared all over my body. My sobs could be heard in the church hall but everyone ignored it. They all ignored me.

I had no idea that I began to sob because I was too focused on my thoughts, I thought about my mother and what Gabriel would have done to her. He must have figured out what she was up to and probably did something to harm her.

“Does anyone in this room have an objection to this marriage between the couple that is standing here?” The priest asked.

“I object,” A voice said and my eyes widened as well all turned around.

Suddenly, I felt as though all my tension and stress disappeared because I finally got to hear the one voice I have been so desperate to hear at this moment. It was going to save me from something that would have damaged me for a lifetime.

“M..mother!” my eyes widened as I watched her limping into the hall with the gun she revealed to me earlier.

It wasn't the state of shock that really made me feel as though I had woken up from a nightmare, it was all the relief that washed over me of finally seeing my mother alive and also the fact this wedding was stalled. I noticed the state she was in, it seemed as though she was beaten and I knew who exactly had done it. So, I throw the bouquet of lilies away and rushed towards her but Nathan grabbed my wrist and locked his hand around it before I could move futyer. I turned my horrified gazs at him who at this point was getting agitated.

“I wouldn't do that if I were you, darling.” He growled.

“Listen to me, you wouldn't want your mother dead.”

“Maria, what are you playing at?” Gabriel bellowed.

“Come on, not at your daughter's wedding.”

My mother glared at him as she began to limp towards us, she was at the top of the aisle as Nathan's men aimed their guns at her. My heart was pounding as I witnessed the amount of men pointing their guns at her. Gabriel just pulled his hand out and beckoned to stop them from shooting so my mother continued to target Nathan who wouldn't let go of me.

“Maria, please put the gun down.” Nathan said and honestly, it was the first time in a long time I have witnessed his gentle side. It got me wondering why he showed this kind of behavior but then again, I couldn't blame him. Right now, mother seemed like she escaped from an asylum and has now gatecrashed the wedding.

“Let go of her!” She hissed and it intimidated me a little, I have never seen this side of her.

“Not until you put the gun down.”

“Maria, I am telling you once, put the drown or I will fucking kill you today.” Gabriel threatened.
