Chapter 29: He Is Back

Sophie

“You heard right, it is exactly what I just said!” Nathan yelled.

Tension filled both their faces as they conversed about it but I couldn't quite catch what they were saying as their voices were very low. I blinked a couple of times to get rid of the dizziness I was experiencing and just held the door as I focused on them.

“Gabriel, I fucking told you that before but you wouldn't listen to me. He found us and now you and I are fucked!” Nathan urges my father as if he wanted him to do something about this but Gabriel just shook his head disagreeing with whatever Nathan was saying.

“Don't worry, son, he hasn't found us at all. If he had, Sophie wouldn't have been here today.” Gabriel replied, in fact he seemed collected right now.

“You know what, we are screwed and you can sit here all day thinking the motherfucker hasn't found us when really he had.” Nathan growled in frustration.

“He practically blew up the fucking shop we were in and the next, he will be here to take your daughter away from you. Then what? What do you have then because without Sophie, you can't get anything!”

“Shut your damn mouth, Nathan! You don't know what you are saying!” Gabriel began to grow frustrated when Nathan's words hit him hard.

“I got rid of him that day so there is no way he is here.”

“Oh, really?” Nathan muttered in a challenging manner.

“Then tell me why did one of my men identify Romao as one of the attackers today at the shop!”

My heart dripp to my stomach and my eyes widened as my mind was processing this…what?

“Romano is back, so I suggest you get ready for some big shít.”

My stomach turned when those words traveled to my ears and reached to my brain, not really helping the fact that I was actually freaking out. Romano is not dead, he is alive.

To say that this was shocking was an understatement, I was actually petrified and my heart was beating so hard against my chest, I began to hallucinate. I would have thought that this kind of news would make me so happy but really, it scared me. I was terrified because I was convinced these past three years that Romano was dead but to find out now that he is alive really made me tremble with fear. I moved from the door and began to saunter towards my mother's room, contemplating all of this. I was so confused because if he was alive, why didn't he come to look for me? I didn't realize that by the time I reached my mother's room, my face was ghostly pale which was why mother stood up quickly from her bed and urged me to come sit down.

“Sweetheart, what happened?” She said as she sat down with me on the bed.

“Are you okay? You look very unwell.”

“Mother, Romao didn't die that day.” I blurted out and looked at her.

“H..he is alive.” I added as I break down and cry so hard as realization finally hits me that I have spent the past three years thinking Romano was dead when really he wasn't.

“What?” Her reaction was just like mine, she was baffled and she wrapped her arms around me and began to shake her head.

“Calm down, Sophie, you know this is good news, right? It is a good thing that Romano is alive.”

“Yes, mother, it definitely is.” I sobbed as I held onto her arms.

“But I have a life with Nathan that I don't think I will be able to get away from. I am also carrying a child that doesn't belong to Romano.”

“Oh, Sophie, there is something you must do right away before it is too late.” She said as he pulled away from our embrace and faced me. Her hands cupped my face before she kissed my forehead.

“Listen to me, you are going to get out of this no matter the circumstances, do you understand?”

“How?” I croaked and shook my head. It is impossible.

“Do you want to get married to Nathan?” She asked in a demanding demeanor. I looked at her and stared at her eyes, they were mixed with rage.

“No,” I shook my head again.

“I don't want to marry him at all.”

“Then we are definitely going to get out of here, do you understand?”

In that moment, I felt as though she was going to save me from something that would ruin me for a lifetime and it was true. If I marry Nathan, my life would have been ruined for the rest of it. I nodded my head at her as I had some sort of hope that this was going to work. Well, I hoped it did because I was running out of options and on the other hand, I had to work quick and fast.

I had to go ahead of Nathan so he wouldn't catch up to me.

It was Wednesday which meant there were only two days left before the wedding and I was dreading it. Two days left until my life turns into a complete utter mess and I was not prepared for this at all. No matter what may come that day, I know I didn't have the strength to get through it.

“Dear, there is nothing to worry about. I can assure you that we will get through this.” My mother said.

Right now, I was having a mini panic attack in her room, wondering how we were going to get away from something that seems impossible. This was my life now and there was no way I was going to get away, if there was a time to get away from this, it would have been the day I met Nathan but unfortunately it didn't happen because I realized too late.

“Mother, I don't know..” I began to have second thoughts as I shook my head and looked away from her. I don't want to risk anything, certainly not her life.

“Don't think about this, child. What are you going to do?” She asked.

I set my eyes on her to try and figure out what she was trying to say until she placed her hand on my flat stomach. My hands curled up to a ball as my nails dug into my palms. I have never really thought about my pregnancy like any normal woman would because I couldn't.

“You need to break the news to Nathan.” She said, her words left me frightened.

The hairs on the back of my neck stood up straight and my heart suddenly ached as it dropped down to my stomach. My body felt clammy as I was sweating under her eyes, she was trying to figure out my response. The most frightening thing ever was to tell Nathan that I am carrying his child. I furrowed my brows and moved away from her because there was no way I am going to tell Nathan about it, I have realized that he was not going to understand at all.

“No, mother, he wouldn't understand, would he?”

“I don't know but he has the right to know, after all he is the father of this child, of your child.” She reminded me.

I closed my eyes and clenched my jaws as I felt tears just roll down my cheeks. I couldn't do this at all, I wanted to leave Nathan right away but if I think about it, it is impossible. I could die, my mother could die or someone else.

“It is okay, dear. Take your time, you don't need to tell him just yet and no one will rush you into anything.” She assured me.

“Thanks for everything, mother.” I gave her a small smile.

“I don't know what I would do without you.”

“Of course, I will be there for you at all times. You are my daughter and I love you with all my heart, sweetheart.”

“I love you,” I replied.

The day was going very fast, it was already the day before the wedding and I began to lose hope. I had so many conflicting questions and thoughts about this because of the fact that I was carrying a child. If something were to happen to me, then my baby would be affected too. I felt responsible for two lives, I couldn't risk anything at all. My thoughts were interrupted when I heard footsteps getting louder as they were approaching towards my room, so I shot my gaze at the door to see Nathan walk in.

“Are you okay, beautiful?” He asked as he began to undress himself.

I nodded my head and looked away for a second before I turned my gaze back to him when I noticed a huge mark on his neck. I furrowed my brows and stood up from the bed and approached him. However, I kept a safe distance from him.

“What happened to your neck, Nathan?” I asked.
