Chapter 123 Put Your Love To Test
Eden’s Point of View
I stood there in shock, perplexed by the audacity of this man.
“I am sick and tired of hearing your nonsense,” I complained as I stepped to the side, obviously frustrated. “I just want you to leave me the hell alone at this point.”
“Did Theron ever tell you he has killed a dog before?” I froze almost instantly; Theron killed a dog? My eyebrows furrowed together in a frown. “So, he didn’t tell you?”
His lips curved into a playful smirk, and I grimaced.
“I knew he wouldn’t, but I will do the honors of telling you.” His smile grew wider. “He got so bored one day, he decided to kill the neighbor's harmless dog,” Thorne explained happily, and I felt my heart sink. This was a lie? But I know the only reason Thorne was telling me this confidently was because he wanted me to confront Theron—so, it couldn’t be a lie. “It was so brutal, the police had to take him away, and that was when we found out he’s got some screw loose in his head. And even though he hasn’t killed anything again…”
He trailed off as he pulled down the neckline of his shirt, showing a part of his chest that looked like an old wound. “…He did this to me, and my dear, there are a lot of other things he did to me, like sending me to a coma, and if that doesn’t tell you anything, the most recent one is this man who attacked you.”
As much as I want to think about this, Theron has a pattern that I have now noticed; he is usually nonchalant, and I am certain he won’t hurt anything unless he is being threatened first. “Theron didn’t just beat up the man because he was bored; he did that to defend a patient who was held at gunpoint.” I found my voice. “As for you, I can see the reason anyone would want you to be in a coma. You are annoying, and almost basically useless, and if you don’t stop hanging around me, you will probably die the next time he hits you.”
I scoffed.
“Theron isn’t capable of loving someone? Why? Because he is a psychopath?” I laughed again. “Sometimes, I struggle to understand who the psycho truly is. You are not diagnosed with anything, and you are so pathetic.”
“Eden—” I interrupted him sharply.
“Quit it,” I snapped. “You never loved me either. Stop trying to project your insecurities on others. Theron is way better than you in any way.”
“I know I messed up, and I deeply regret it, but it is unfair if you forgave Theron and refuse to give me the same grace.” He held my hands. “I am worried about you, Eden. The most dangerous kind of man is a restrained one, he has so much anger and violence impulse locked away inside him—I don’t want him to hurt you like he hurt the dog.”
“No,” I shook my head. “Theron is soft, gentle, and kind. He is not this angry, violent monster you all describe, and I know this because I have seen him, who he truly is, I have touched him, and I am not going to be influenced by your hatred.”
I turned on my heels and walked away from him, and this time around, he didn’t try to stop me. I opened the door quickly and rushed out.
I didn’t need any negativity around me or anyone telling me bad things about my husband. I would have complained to Theron, but I don’t want him to fight with Thorne.
I just want us to be left alone.
“I have been looking all over for you.” My eyes settled on the figure before me, her dark brown hair flowing around her face, and her green eyes gleaming suspiciously at me.
“Fuck. What did I do to keep running into all these mad people?” I asked myself as I tried to walk past her, but she followed me.
“Are you going to act like you can’t see me?” She asked.
“Leave me alone, Evangeline,” I told her tiredly, as I was stressed from seeing the two people who are arguably the people I hate the most. “I don’t want to see you.”
“But why not?” She raised her eyebrows. “I need someone to show me around.”
“Ask someone else to do it.” I walked away again, and she followed me.
“But you are my sister, and also we should grab coffee sometimes with my brother-in-law, after all, we are family.” She draped an arm across my shoulder, and I paused the moment she mentioned Theron; I knew what she meant by that, the way her voice rose softly annoyed me to no end, and I shoved her. “We should improve the relationship between us, don’t you think?”
“What is this?” I stopped walking altogether. Eden calmed down. You can’t lose your cool, not yet, not here.
“Don’t you want me to be friendly with my brother-in-law?” Her voice dropped into a small whisper. “After all, he was supposed to be mine.”
The word ‘mine’ made me sick to the stomach.
“And guess what, he isn’t yours.” I pointed out. “He is my husband, and I would prefer you stop talking rubbish and go do something meaningful with your life.”
I was about to walk off when her voice rang again.
“Uriel was your fiancé, but he wasn’t yours.” She thought to remind me. “I didn’t even need to do much to get him to look at me, and just like that.” She snapped her fingers. “He forgot about you.”
I glared at her.
“Do you think that would work on Theron?” I asked curiously. “I won’t engage in such childish games with you, Evangeline.”
“Sounds like you are just scared.” She dared again, yes, maybe she is right, maybe I am a little worried that she might be able to get Theron the same way she got Uriel, but I wasn’t going to warn her to stay away from him. If he fails and falls victim to her seduction, then it means he wasn’t really mine.
“Do whatever you want.”
