Chapter 122 Chapter 122
Chapter 122 Chapter 122
I looked at the bartender who flashed me another angry look and I quickly changed my mind about asking him about what I'd just heard. It would be better to hear from the horse itself. Placing the shot glass on the counter and a few dollar notes alongside it, I walked around to the door the man had disappeared into.
The bartender didn't notice me because he had returned to his cleaning and his friend at the counter had suddenly shifted his attention to his phone. Immediately after opening the door, I found myself standing directly in front of the man, as if he'd been waiting for me. A second later, I realized that he'd been on his way out. "Who are you?" He asked in a hostile manner.
I
Stepping back to allow him through, I said, “I overheard you talking about someone earlier. Daisy." Before he could say anything, I pulled out a poster I had folded neatly into my back pocket and presented it to him. "Is this her?"
A surprised look crossed his face as he stared at it. “Yes, yes, she's the one. She used to work here. Poor girl. Having to deal with being accused of murder. I wonder what has become of her."
"Sorry, did you say murder?" I asked, baffled.
"Yes, although the story is not quite clear," he replied and I followed him as he started walking towards one of the tables in the room. On getting to the table, he stopped suddenly and turned to face me. "Wait, what's your interest in her? I hope you know there's no reward for finding her.”
"I'm just someone concerned about her. We used to be... friends,” I answered. That was the only word that came to mind at that moment.
“Okay, then," he said, settling into the chair behind him. I pulled out the chair opposite him and did the same. "Here's what I know," he started. "She was accused of going into a store belonging to an old man, asking for help. The man helped her and she asked him for a ride afterwards. I think where she wanted him to take her was very far because the man's sons refused when he informed them of her request. Apparently, the man went behind his sons to help her and some hours later, his body was found in his car in the woods. Daisy being that last person known to associate with him is what made her wanted."
The wheels in my mind turned quickly as the man narrated what he knew to me.
"That can't be possible," I said when he was done.
"What's that?"
"Murder. Daisy is not even close to being capable of that," I said with confidence. "Not the Daisy I knew."
"Well, from my experience, anybody is capable of murder," the man said.
"Do you know the woods where the man's body was found?"
He thought for a moment before saying, “I think the name was synxora woods or something like that. The name sounded weird. Also, there was a time Daisy was talking to a man here. He was tall, he had long, dark hair, a sculpted nose and full brows.” He paused for a moment as if trying to remember something then he said, “oh, and he also had a sharp jaw hidden underneath well-trimmed beards."
Klaus. He was the only one I knew that fit that description. For Daisy to have found her way to the woods in my territory, that meant she'd been trying to find her way back to me and the only thing that could have stopped that was someone taking her. And that someone was most likely to be Klaus.
"Do you know where any of them went?" I asked the man and he gave me a negative response
Seeing that he couldn't help me further, I rose to my feet, thanked him, and walked away. Everything he'd told me had renewed my urge to find Daisy. As I was heading towards the entrance, I heard someone calling out to me. Glancing in the direction it was coming from, I saw an extremely beautiful lady walking towards me.
“Hi, I'm Mandi,” she introduced herself. I had a good guess about what was on her mind but that was the last thing I wanted right now.
"Yeah? So?" I asked coldly, eager to continue my search for Daisy.
She ignored my rude comment and said, “I overheard you talking about someone named Daisy. I can direct you to where you can find the man she was with."
Turns out I'd been wrong about her intentions.
"Okay? I'm listening.”
"I was here with my lover that day. He was one of the sons of the old man who was found dead. The man that was with this Daisy lady had a conversation with my lover, Jamie and that made him change his mind about calling the cops on her. Jamie looked so afraid that I immediately knew something was wrong. So I followed Daisy and the guy when they left and I was able to locate his estate."
I looked at her skeptically, wondering why she was so eager to help me. As she gave me the address to Klaus' estate, I expected her to ask for something in return but she did nothing of such and instead of that, she walked away afterwards.
Still surprised by the encounter, I left the bar and headed to the address she gave to me. There was no one at home when I arrived there but I saw signs that people had been there. If Klaus was not at home, then there was only one other place he could be.
