Chapter 82 - Fated to the cursed Alpha
Embry
Kane came and got us out of the safe room in the basement. The moment I stepped out of there, my wolf was on high alert. I was sniffing the air. Whatever was here had long gone.
“Are you OK?” Kane asked as he hugged me.
“Yeah, my wolf was focused on something down here” I answered him as I looked around the basement. “I think it's gone now, but the scent. Do you smell that?” I asked him as I sniffed the air once more.
He looked at me confused as he raised his nose into the air, inhaling deeply. He shook his head slowly, “I'm not too sure, I don't smell anything new down here, all I can smell is the rancid scent of the cells, what are you picking up on?” he asked curiously.
“I'm not sure, something sour, like an off smell. It's very similar to the scent Lydia had on her when she first came here. Wait the cells smell like this?”
“It's tainted magic” Kala interjected as she walked beside us. She was inhaling deeply, “She's right, something was here but it's long gone.”
“Kala, how are you feeling?” Kane panicked as he hugged her.
She smiled as she hugged him back tightly. “I'll be OK. You won't get rid of me that easily. Ansel's healing too”
“Thank god” He exhaled sharply as though he could finally breathe, finally seeing his sister was OK.
“How can you tell? About the tainted magic?” Kane asked her.
“When magic is suppressing something it can give a heavy feeling like the air has turned thick. Once it moves or has gone from the area, it leaves a foul, sour smell. I smelt it in the house before today, after the break-in”
“Yeah, I think it's time to step up security,” I said.
Kala looked between the two of us. “Victor has tried to hurt all of us, we need to find him and whoever is helping him. They dare hurt my family and try to take my mate from me. If I get my hands on them I will curse them to a life of pain and torture”, Kala seethed.
“Kala, Ansel is coming round” Rose called, snapping Kala away from her dark thoughts.
We walked back into the small secure room. Kala rushed to his side. He looked a lot better than he did when we first found him. Rose walked back to Kala's side, hugging her. “I think he's probably going to be sore for a few days but he's ok” Rose reassured Kala as she gave her one last squeeze and left her with her mate.
“Good to see you awake man!” Ryder patted Ansel's shoulder.
“Yeah, good to have you back with us” Kane smiled.
Ansel tried to push himself up, Kala helped him by pushing pillows behind him. He let out a loud sigh as he felt pain shoot through his head. “I feel like death!” He gasped as his hands cradled his head.
“I'm not surprised, you took a real pasting!” Kala answered him as she wiped her face, tears began to fall down her cheeks.
“You had some silver in your system, not much, but from what I can tell, you were cut with a silver blade. Thankfully, it's pretty much gone now. You should be right as rain in a few days” Rose explained, as she handed him a cup.
He took it, looking inside of it. “How hard has a man got to be hit to get the good stuff, instead I get water!” he joked.
“Sugar water actually, with a special something inside of it. This is the good stuff! it will give you a bit of a boost and put some energy back into your body. You will be jumping around in no time.” Rose smirked.
Kane was looking at his phone, typing something before he slipped it back into his pocket. “Nobody has found anything so far, I've told them to do another sweep of the area then report back again”, Kane sighed.
“Foster didn't find anything on the east side. I sent warnings out to Bluemoon to keep their eyes peeled and I have another team checking the local roads in the area. They had to get out somehow”, Ryder added.
"thank you, Ryder" Kane smiled as he patted his back.
"it's my job, it's what I do best, that and try to keep you out of trouble" he joked.
Do you remember anything?” Kane asked Ansel.
He lowered the cup from his mouth and shook his head. “Not much, I couldn't see whoever it was. I was just being attacked from all angles. The next thing I knew, I was knocked to the floor and I just couldn't get back up. Victor was speaking with someone while he was standing in the doorway. I couldn't make out what he was saying, I never heard the other person. Then Victor looked at me with a huge smile on his face. Then it was as if he had just vanished. That's when I passed out”. He took another sip of his drink before passing the cup to Kala.
“That's OK, you did good Ansel, you fought well!” I commended.
“Not well enough, I presume he got away?” Ansel looked around at us all as we nodded, confirming his suspicions were right.
“None of us were prepared, How were we to know something like this was going to happen, I didn't even know he had friends to help him,” I said.
“It will be his loyal pack members, I doubt there are too many of them left” Kane answered.
“Whoever it is, are too scared to face us obviously,” I said quietly.
“The others are upstairs in the Kitchen, Lydia's just round. I told them to get some food,
Knowing Lydia was back in the house didn't exactly excite me, I hadn't seen her since our exchange in the cells. “This could be interesting!” I hummed to myself as I followed Kane out of the room.
“Joshua assured me she will be ok,” Kane said as he looked back at me taking hold of my hand.
I just nodded, I wasn't really in the mood for her comments. There was so much more going on than her forced infatuation with Kane.
As I walked up the stairs and into the kitchen I noticed Lydia straight away, she lowered her head and cowered into Joshua's side, I found it interesting she was holding onto Joshua's arm. Did she remember him? Or was she just so scared she finally accepted him as a friend?
“How are you all?” I asked the three of them hoping it would break the ice.
“Good, despite recent occurrences I think we are lucky enough to escape unscathed,” Eric said as he looked behind me just as Ansel hobbled through the door. Kala pulled out a stool and he immediately dropped down into it.
I sat back and watched, as everyone settled around the kitchen. Kane brought me a hot drink over, I smiled and thanked him letting him know I was ok. I was, it was my wolf who was on edge as she looked around at everyone. I knew she was just trying to protect me and the family but she was fixated on Eric, I watched as his eyes also roamed the room. He was looking around him, almost like he was waiting for something.
“Eric” I called louder than I should have done. The noise in the room quietened down as people looked at me. “ Forgive me for asking so bluntly but, I find it very peculiar that the moment you arrived Your brother mysteriously escaped and disappeared without a trace. We have injured people here yet you have no injuries. The one person Victor wanted dead and yet he left you alone?” everyone looked curiously before turning to Eric awaiting his answer.
He looked around at the room of eyes that were now on him. He stood clearing his throat, “You are weary of me I understand that Luna. You don't know me well enough to of gained my trust. I did feel uneasy when all this happened, I knew I would have been the prime suspect as soon as we were attacked. I don't know why he left me, I thought I would have been the first one to be attacked but he just looked at me and smiled. My brother always has a plan, I fear we haven't heard the last of him. But I stand by what I said. I pledge my loyalty to you and your pack. If you will have me I will help and do whatever I can to help you all capture him, you have no reason to believe me but you can trust me, that I promise” Eric's words didn't falter, His heart remained steady. The look on his face seemed to be genuine fear, as much as he was scared of his brother's actions he was still offering to stay and help find him.
My wolf seemed to ease, for some strange reason she believed him. “Ok, that was all I needed to know?” I smiled at him, he looked around confused still.
“That's it? You will take my word, there will be no punishment or torture to see if I'm lying? You believe me?” He asked nervously.
“Do you think you need to be tortured?” I asked.
He shook his head “No, Luna!”
“Then neither do I” I smiled.”My wolf has certain abilities that seem to be coming to light recently, and she seems to believe you are no threat to us. So if she is happy having you here, then so am i” I said as I took a sip of my drink.
“Thankyou for your trust, Luna” he bowed his head to me before taking his seat by Lydia once again.
“ Can I please say something” Lydia spoke up, she finally raised her head and she was looking at me. Even though she was the same person there was something about her that seemed different. I nodded my head to her telling her to continue.
“I want to apologise to you Luna, well, to you all in fact” it was the first time she had addressed me as Luna. She had to be back to her old self, “While I was under Victor's control I said and done some unspeakable things. Things I know I can't take back, however, I would like the opportunity to gain your trust, and friendship if you will let me. I want to help you bring Victor down”
“I understand you were not yourself, I take it you are feeling much better now?” I asked her.
“I am yes” she nodded.
“And you think you can help us with Victor? How do we know it's not all a game just to be back by his side once again, seen as he abandoned you here?” Kane asked her. He was short, snappy. I think he was going to have a harder time forgiving her than I was.
“I know things,” she said. I could see the fear in her eyes as she looked at Kane. She knew he was pissed at her.
“What things?” I asked her, taking Kane's focus away from her before he had an aneurysm.
“I was with him when he planned his attacks, I know his people, I know where he hides, where he goes. I will tell you everything!” she pleaded.
“Good, then let's get started” I answered.
