Chapter 83 Chapter Eighty-Three

Kaelan

Early the following morning, while Keira was still fast asleep, I crept out of her bed, hurriedly dressed up, and went straight to my home office after I gave Ryan a call to meet me there.

As always I didn't get any sleep the previous night, I literally watched Keira sleep the entire night.

“Ypu didn't actually fucking spend the night in my office, did you?” I snapped immediately I entered, and met Ryan already inside, his entire attention was fixed on the laptop sitting on his laps.

“Uhm, there was certainly no way I would have reached here before you just three minutes after you called me to meet you here.” He pointed out. “Meanwhile, I waited all night for your call, didn't get one.” Ryan said without lifting his head up from whatever he was doing on his laptop.

There was one reason why I didn't punch his brains out for not properly acknowledging me when I entered. He was my friend. Unfortunately.

“You didn't.” I opposed rather in a gruff voice. I tiredly plopped myself on the only sofa opposite where Ryan sat, his eyes were still fixed on his laptop screen. “So, you were saying…” Leaning forward, I picked his half-drunk glass of wine, lifted it up to my lips, but didn't immediately drink from it.

Ryan paused typing on his laptop, lifted his head up to meet my gaze. He sighed. My eyes caught the swift smack of his lower lip. “This is more complicated than I thought.”

At once my interest was piqued. I lowered the glass down from my mouth. One glance from me, and he started to talk, not after letting out another heavy sigh.

“Okay, I told you Liyana has some kind of connection to that person, right?”

I nodded.

“While investigating further, together with the help of my men, I discovered something strange–”

“What is it?” Impatience cut through my veins. “Just go straight to the point already, Ryan.” I interrupted him.

“Sure. But first, allow me to explain.”

I cast him a cold look but said nothing more. Always, at the mention of the bastard who has long been getting on my nerves behind closed doors, I always felt like killing. Heavens alone knew how desperate I was to get my hands on whoever they were. It'd been years now, and this person's tactics hadn't changed. It was always one pattern; sending assassins to my house, my private bar, or at a random place where they knew I'd be. But now…

I relaxed my head a little to the back while I continued trying to pin the puzzles together. In that moment, I wasn't even sure I was listening to whatever Ryan was saying.

Liyana was the spy Cassandra told Keira about, and if that person was indeed connected to Liyana as Ryan said, that would mean the attack on my men, and Maya was likely to be their doing, and that would mean that this time… they are not after my life at all.

A soft chuckle escaped through my slightly parted lips when realization struck. Of course, they were all after it.

“Alpha king?”

I blinked once. Twice. Snapping my head sideways, my eyes met with Ryan's questioning look. “Did you hear a single word I said?”

“You might want to repeat it again.” I adjusted my position, bent forward, and carried the glass up again. This time, I took a little sip before he started talking.

“Your Luna princess,” He smacked his lips together. “The case of her father's missing coffin,”

I stiffened a bit at the mention of the missing coffin but didn't utter a single word despite how badly I wanted to ask how this was in connection with Liyana's case.

“Of course,” he continued. “Based on how Marienne is such a bitch, everyone would think she is behind the stunt, however, she isn't. Liyana isn't the one either,” He added quickly. “That person is.”

I furrowed my brows. “The fuck is going on?”

“Do you think this person knows your wife personally?” He asked.

“No. We don't even know the bastard who is stirring all this chaos, and besides, if that were to be the case, she would also be facing her own square of problems.” That was the only response I provided before standing up.

“What do you suggest we do now?”

“Dig as deep as you can, get us more information you can lay your hands on. We need to know if all of this bullshit happening is connected or not. After that, I'd decide what to do. And also, keep a very close eye on any unusual movements amongst my maids, and guards. I am suspecting there is another of their own here apart from Liyana.”

“Noted, your highness.”

“I will be back later, I need to talk to Damien.” I walked past him without waiting for his response.

His “Yes, Alpha.” met my ears just as my fingers wrapped around the door knob.

“Keira?” I swallowed down nothing. Has she been standing here for a while? “When did you wake?” Have you eaten?”

“What is going on?” She asked, ignoring my questions, or rather, she pretended not to have heard. She brushed past me, walking straight inside the room. “I think you both can start talking now.” She folded her hands beneath her breasts, and cast a look my way.

“Hey,” She moved away when I tried to hold her hand. “You should explain first, before trying to touch me. What is going on about my father's moved corpse, and how do you guys know it isn't Marienne who pulled the stunt. For all I know, she is the prime suspect.”

“Babe!” This time, she didn't move away when I tried to touch her, let's go talk in my room.” With one hand on her waist, and one holding her gently by the arm, I walked us out.

“Okay, you start talking now.” She snapped.

I watched her, a little smile danced between the lines of my mouth as I watched her stand, hands folded behind her, lips tightened, and her face dropped in a small… Okay, quite a big frown.

“Not when you have such a look on your face, and you keep on insisting not to sit down.”

She scoffed. “So I should laugh or what?” She spread her arms apart, “I just got to find out someone else, one different from whom I am suspecting to be the culprit behind my father's missing coffin, and also behind the threat letter. And yes, that so-called person is somehow behind Liyana.” She blew a breath. “You don't expect me to be calm.”

“Does that mean you are not angry?” She looked at me, then slowly shook her head before walking up to me, she sat down beside me, and placed her head on my shoulder.

“I am not. You yourself just got to find out,”
“What do you think I should do now?” She asked after a while.

“Let me first go talk to Damien, I have some questions for him, after that we'd sit, and talk it out.” She didn't answer, but I felt her head move against my shoulder.

“I was quite famished, I tried calling you, you weren't picking up, so I thought to find you. I didn't mean to eavesdrop though, it just happened.”

“There is really no need for you to explain, I would eventually have to tell you about it anyways,” I moved my right hand to her waist, gave it a gentle pat before I started to slowly move my hand up and down her back. “So, what do you want to eat? I need to go talk to Damien.”

“What for exactly?” She asked, ignoring the first question. She raised her head when I didn't respond immediately.

“I told you already, I need to ask him a few questions.”

She raised her head up. “It’s quite useless trying to probe answers out of you,” She hissed a little while I simply chuckled.

“Are you done thinking?”

She shook her head. “I don't know, I am no longer hungry.”

“All of a sudden?” I frowned. “Are you feeling okay?” I already had my palms pressed to her forehead before she could reply.

“You are not running a fever, but your body is unusually cold.” I murmured.

Maybe I looked quite serious while I was touching her forehead, or maybe it was my voice tone. Whichever of the two made Keira burst out laughing, I honestly had no idea.

“Is it funny?”

“So it seems,” Keira said in-between laughs. “I merely lost my appetite, I am not sick.”

“If you insist,” I stopped moving my hand, but didn't take it off. “Will you spare me some minutes?”

“It’s not like you would stay if I refuse to spare you any minute.” She complained.

“Sounds like you are suddenly starting to become clingy.”

“I bet you would only want to see that part of me when I want to ride your dick.” She turned to me, a teasing smile rested on her face.

“As much as I want to talk to Damien, I think I should allow you to cling to me some more, who knows…” I pushed my hand to the front a little, holding her by the waist. Lifting her up, and straddling her on top of my lap was no big issue.

“My body might balance your body temperature.”

She threw her head backwards, and laughed. “You can't be fucking serious.”

“How about you let me kiss you first, then you'd see if you won't feel hot.”

“What if–” I pressed a finger on her lips, shushing her up. “Keep quiet already.”

She nodded.

“Good girl. Now,” I moved my right hand around her waist, while my left hand held the back of her neck pulling her face closer to mine.

All my plans, thoughts, and whatnots were drowned by the feel of Keira's soft lips against mine. I closed my eyes, and deepened the kiss. I hated to waste even a second not savoring any intimate moments between us.
