Chapter Fifty-Nine

Alless kept on looking at the two older men. What was that? They addressed him as his majesty. Okay, now they are regarding me as the the king. Wow, what Now ? They call me king. Then what are they? Alless smiled and moved away to get ready for dinner.

Back in Sabrina’s room, Edwardo was sitting on a couch beside Sabrina, not knowing what to do.He just felt tongue-tied, remembering Alless’ treats. What can he say to her to convince her to stay with him? He had nothing to offer her, and she has not responded to what he asked her before. He had asked her if she was willing to be a camp follower, to think deeply, and to let him know. Every time they had met after that, he had been expecting a response from her, but no, she never said anything.

So how did he begin asking her now? What should he say? "Sabrina,"  he began tentatively, “How are you?” Sabrina, who had been sitting quietly since she opened the door for Edwardo, looked up at him at the question.

“I am okay, Edwardo. What are you doing here?” She asked, her eyes looking grave.

She had opened her heart to this man; she has given her all, but she does not have any idea where she stood with him till now. As a matter of fact, she had decided to go back to the USA and resume her practice if they would still have her.

She wondered why she had thrown everything away to follow a man who did not love her or want to be with her.

Edwardo could hear clearly what she was thinking and could not believe that she was thinking.

of going away. Can he really live without this woman who has touched his heart the way no one else has?

“Sabrina, I came here to ask you a question and to get a response to my earlier question.”

“What question?” Sabrina asked innocently, pretending not to know what he was referring to. She stood up from the bed, went over to the dressing table, and flipped through the cosmetics on it. Honestly, she had done nothing but think about Ewdwardo’s proposition. It did not sit well with her. She could not live her well-ordered life to follow a man of whose future she was not certain.

She needed stability and family that she had never had. She needed that desperately, and if Edwardo could not give her that, then it was better she nipped this relationship in the bud.

Edwardo said, "You can't say that.” He went forward and hugged Sabrina from the back, putting his  head on her shoulder and his arms around her shapely figure, which never seemed to amaze him. “Don't say that, Sabrina,” Edwardo repeated.

Sabrina, shocked, turned and looked at Edwardo. “Did I say that aloud, or did you just read my mind?”

Edwardo heaved a sigh, leaned onto Sabrina, and gave her a sizzling kiss.

“Don't distract me, Edwardo; tell me, can you read minds? This is not the first time you have done  it." Sabrina moved out of Edwardo’s arms, looking at him suspiciously.

Looking at her, looking so beautiful, Edwardo thought that for this relationship to work, he had to tell her everything. He took her fragile hands in his large ones, turning the palm up. He made small circles on them, sending electricity jutting through them.

There is so much you need to know about me—fear creeping into her, Alless, and the whole family. If you want us to be together, you have to know who we truly are.

Sabrina listened to his words, fear creeping into her. What was he driving at? Will she be able to take what I was about to tell him?

“Come, let's get comfortable; it's a long story.”

Just as he was about to begin the story, they heard a knock at the door. It's me, Alless; come out now. Alless spoke through the mind link.

Edwardo frowned. He was just doing what he commanded; now what? Alless laughed. The matter at hand is important. Meet me in my studies in five minutes.

When Alless left, Edwardo turned to Sabrina and said, I will be right back. Who was that? Sabrina asked with a frown, wondering who Edwardo knew who it was without taking.

‘It was Alless; he wanted to see me. How do you know it was Alless? I didn't hear him speak, nor did I hear you ask him any questions. Sabfrina questioned her, her beautiful face showing a puzzled look. “Don't worry, when I come back, I will tell you everything you need to know.” With that, Edwardo stood up and went to the door. “Wait for me.”. Sabrina nodded

"Now, what do you want with me? I have not finished what you sent me to do; now what?” Sorry, Edwardo, I had to cut short your conversion, but I can see it is going nicely. I need you to help me with something, Alless said.

“Okay, shoot, I have to go back to Sabrina; I asked her to wait.”.

Alless looked at his friend and smiled.

Alless paced back and forth in his study, a nervous energy pulsing through him. He had made up his mind. It was time to give Scarlet the proper wedding she deserved, even if they had been married in a low-key ceremony without the grandeur she might have dreamed of. But he needed help and guidance on how to execute the perfect proposal.

Turning to his trusted friend and aide, Edwardo, Alless cleared his throat, his voice betraying his uncertainty. "Edwardo, I need your advice. I want to give Scarlet the wedding she deserves—a proper one this time. But I don't know where to start. How should I go about the proposal?"

Edwardo, ever the composed confidant, regarded Alless with a knowing smile. "My King, the key to a memorable proposal lies in the personal touch. Consider what Scarlet loves and what would truly make her heart sing. Is it an intimate gathering with close friends and family, or perhaps a romantic getaway just for the two of you?"

Alless nodded, absorbing Edwardo's words. "You're right. It has to be personal and meaningful to her." He paused, a spark of inspiration igniting in his eyes. "I know just the place, during dinner. I have asked everyone to wait, so her father, brother, and everyone she loves will be there. I want it to be a surprise for her.

Edwardo nodded approvingly. "An excellent choice, my friend. And the ring?"

Alless grinned, a hint of excitement bubbling within him. "I have it already. It belonged to her grandmother, passed down through generations. It's perfect."

With Edwardo's guidance and his own determination, Alless began to plan the proposal that would mark the beginning of their journey to a proper wedding, one filled with love, memories, and the promise of a future together.
